  1. Link posted on Wilco Facebook page. You have to fast forward pretty far to see it -- in the last 1/3 of the stream.
  2. I'm on board with this. I love all the music he uses in Goodfellas. The piano coda to "Layla" while all the bodies are being discovered...
  3. Thinking about grabbing a few of the newer Roadcases, And I'm curious whether the sound quality has improved on these. The most recent one I have is the all acoustic set from Solid Sound, so I won't count that in the "sound quality" conversation because of the setup and the inherent challenges capturing a good recording. I also have Red Rocks 2012 and the full band set from Solid Sound 2013. Both are wonderful shows with very tight playing and great song selection, but I've always been a bit let down by the sound quality. John is very low, almost absent from the mix. Guitars and vocals
  4. Bit of a stretch, but thanks for trying to get something fun going. I was hoping there was some deeper thing I'd been missing.
  5. I'll second that Pops Staples project. Fantastic stuff.
  6. Millionaire is a terrible song. I remember enjoying Let's Fight, wouldn't mind hearing a more polished studio version.
  7. Started diving back into my live Wilco over the weekend after about a 6-month break. Official Roadcase releases, SBDs and all. The more recent recording from their Pitchfork Music Festival headlining set is a top-notch recording. Lots of muscle in the bass and drums, more so than the usual Roadcase releases, and a nice set list synthesizing the career after the full run-through of Star Wars.
  8. What's the riddle? The thread title? What does this mean? Not exactly a great setup...
  9. Weird, I'm on the email list and received no such email. :-(
  10. Hey gang, I've got 2 GA tickets for the show at CrossroadsKC on 8/16. It's a fun venue with good sound and they've played several awesome shows there. I've seen all but one of them. Unfortunately I got placed on a weeklong business trip at the last minute so I can't make the show this year. Looking to sell these 2 tickets at face value. Item to note: I live in Manhattan, KS (two hours east of KC) so I'll have to mail these to anyone who wishes to purchase them. Please let me know if you're interested; I want these tickets to go to a good home!
  11. It's a great recording. Opens with a really strong "California Stars" with some extra muscle. "I'm Always in Love" races along with the garage-rock energy of the version played in the IATTBYH film. There was a period where I was completely immersed in these recordings and others. Know them in and out. I took a bit of a Wilco hiatus after burning through so many live recordings and the long gap between TWL and Star Wars, but I love pulling out these older shows from time to time. It's fun to go back and trace the band's evolution.
  12. Oh, wow. So many. Depends on which era you want to explore. There are a lot of great SBDs up until about 2004, then they start to *taper* off. I have mined the depths of Owl & Bear. Here are my favorites: 5/23/95 (high energy A.M. era show with plenty of Uncle Tuoelo tunes. Seminal al-country sound) 11/20/96 (Jeff & Jay, really fun) 9/4/97 (stripped down in-studio radio performance late in the Being There tour. They sound exhausted but really tight and happy to be not rocking out for a change) 9/4/98 (giving the new Mermaid Avenue stuff a workout and introducing Leroy) 10/4/9
  13. I've got the original red vinyl too. The crown jewel of my collection. I love A.M. Amazing to think about the trajectory of A.M. to Star Wars, with the same two guys at the core of it all.
  14. It was a tremendous show! My second at CrossroadsKC and sixth overall. (10th if you count Tweedy solo shows) The band was super-tight and the sound was excellent. Loved hearing Secrets of the Sea and Panthers. Really glad the latter has made Its way into the rotation. The last six tunes were a great prgression from folk-rock to fist-pumping anthem rockers - a really well-done peak. And the acoustic encore was just icing on the cake. By far my favorite part of the show. The crowd, for the most part, was very attentive and respectful while the band unplugged and went full-on acoustic. Would
  15. What can I say? Like countless others, he was an immense part of my formation as a musician and a lover of music. My first album was Blues on the Bayou. My favorite is Live in Cook County Jail. Listen to the way in a single tune he could make Lucille growl like a Mississippi hound dog and sing sweetly like some blues angel. I was fortunate to catch a few of his shows in my life. The way he barked his vocals, shook his fists and then winked at the ladies in the front row. The precision, dexterity and control he had over his instrument, his voice and his band. The tremendous joy, laughter and in
  16. Grab all six shows from the Chicago run in December. They're all outstanding and showcase the band in top form, executing their songs perfectly and busting out quite a few rarities. The set lists are mixed up really well and there's some terrific banter each night as Jeff reflects on Wilco's 20 years. Highly recommended.
  17. I really enjoy transition albums. This one is just so special, being the bridge between the alt-country, rootsy sounds of AM/BT (and yes, BT had some flourishes of more complex sounds) -- and the complete metamorphosis in sound achieved during the YHF/AGIB era. It's really no wonder that it was forgotten during its time, but like I said before, it has held up incredibly well. A masterpiece.
  18. Really enjoying the new record. Probably my favorite since "Z."
  19. The one that got me hooked. My first love of the Wilco world. Still holds up incredibly well today. I think people will continue to realize its genius over time.
  20. I love A.M. The original red vinyl is still my most treasured LP in my collection.
  21. I do enjoy a good rant that's mostly met with non-sympathizers.
  22. A buddy of mine just informed me yesterday that he and his cousin scored two tickets to all three shows. Lucky dogs.
  23. Jam bands have some of the worst band names ever. Ever.
  24. Saw him play once. A lot of joy coming from the stage. A terrific player, gentleman and highly respected musician.
  25. This spring/summer is looking pretty good. So far, I've got tickets to: March: Tedeschi Trucks BandApril: Drive-By TruckersJuly: WilcoAugust: Rodrigo y Gabriela
