  1. Well, the reason I addressed mainly older shows is because the original poster said he/she had already downloaded some Roadcase shows (officially released live Wilco recordings), and asked for "bootlegs," typically unreleased/unofficial recordings, from previous eras of the band.
  2. Wilco - Alpha Mike Foxtrot Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I (remastered, 3-LP reissue with 1969 Paris concert on LPs 2-3)
  3. Here's a quick rundown of my personal favorites. These are shows from previous iterations of the band (read: not the current lineup). My top three are in bold. I spent several years during a hardcore Wilco binge working my way through a lot of the stuff on Owl & Bear to find the best sounding recordings. Many, if not most of these, are available to stream at the website Wilco Me mentioned. 5-25-95 10-25-95 5-10-97 9-4-97 10-30-97 9-4-98 10-4-99 7-30-00 7-31-00 7-4-01 10-5-01 3-16-02 10-29-02 6-28-03 9-4-03 If you wish to dig deeper, there are many, many threads on this same topic. 4. I too received a vinyl copy of AMF from jolly old St. Nicholas. Am enjoying the digital versions right now as my turntable is currently packed for moving, but I'll give it a spin on the portable turntable with some headphones. Great stuff.
  5. I don't think he was making a case for Wilco to be in.
  6. Not surprised at a lot of what I'm hearing. Same stuff we've heard before -- there's no conflict in Wilco; there are too many members in Wilco now; they're not challenging, they've lost their edge, etc., etc. Apparently Jeff Tweedy went to rehab for weed and cocaine, according to these guys. And these guys don't sound like they're well-versed in too much other than YHF/AGIB, though they do talk about SBS in some detail. AM/BT get passing mentions. Interesting listen nonetheless. Thanks for sharing!
  7. Oooohhh, I bet that's really good. And I'm sure it's lovely on vinyl. Thanks for the recommendation.
  8. Listened to it a few days ago after taking a few weeks off. I really think I prefer the second disc.
  9. He did last year during his solo tour in December. At the show in Kansas City, there was a heckler in the front row who kept yelling at Jeff to play a "Jay Bennett tribute." Between every song. It was pretty annoying. When Jeff ignored him, the guy made some remark about Jeff not respecting Jay, to which Jeff replied very calmly, "Jay Bennett was my friend. You didn't know him. He definitely wouldn't like you. Jay was my friend." Gave me a lump in my throat and made me a little misty. It was very heartfelt and touching. The heckler was eventually escorted out of the theater after his anti
  10. Throwing ice? Geez, people. That's kind of sad. It's a rock and roll show. Unfold your hands, get them out of your lap and get off your asses. This isn't a smooth jazz show.
  11. These stats are interesting and all, but where do y'all find the time to do this? Bored at work?
  12. For classic stuff, Charlie Brown Christmas, Vince Guaraldi Trio. For a more modern take (but still with a classic sound), the She & Him tracks are pretty great.
  13. I would too. An official box set...though I doubt it with What's Your 20 and AMF out. Small, round, flat object containing data, usually music, played in a car or through a stereo system. Worn-out CDs make for great coasters and mini frisbees.
  14. It moves in and out of the top slot for my favorite song on TWL. I sure wish they would.
  15. This is so much fun reading the setlists and everyone's feedback on the shows. Me thinks I'll be downloading this run and will use these shows (along with AMF) to bring Wilco back into my listening rotation. A note about the "This is 40" arrangement of "I Got You." Long before Wilco recorded it for the film soundtrack, it was the "Shakey's Pizza" arrangement as played by Jeff and Jay way back in the day. At least that's what Jeff calls it on the lovely bootleg recording of his and Jay's session for C'Est What in Toronto on 11-20-1996. Check it out over at the [recently redesigned!] sooutoftu
  16. I snagged the KT vinyl when it first came out and dropped some coin on it. I also was in a big "acquisition" phase, downloading as many shows as I could and seeking out all things Wilco. I've since gotten over that hump, and have probably spun the full KT box set once, maybe twice. It's still the best-sounding live Wilco release to me, but I just listen to the MP3 downloads that came with the vinyl box - which includes the seven extra tracks. The vinyl box just sits on a shelf.
  17. Some of y'all just must not be that big of fans to have not tracked down or heard most of this stuff. (WINK WINK)))
  18. Oh, I completely understand that they're different writers. But it has been interesting that the original AGIB review and write-ups of every record following have still referenced AGIB in a negative fashion every time. It was just an interesting contrast of opinions, to me.
  19. What's most interesting to me is the praise given to AGIB - a record regularly dismissed by the folks at Pitchfork - particularly with regards to Jeff's lead guitar work. Reviews of follow-up records even went so far as to point out how AGIB is Wilco's most difficult record. AMF/What's your 20 review Later on, Bennett’s ouster would lead Tweedy to flex his lead-guitar muscle on the brilliant A Ghost Is Born. And it’s this middle period filled with personnel switches and personal tumult—Summerteeth, Foxtrot, and Ghost—that still stands as their greatest work ... Tweedy’s stunning distorted
  20. He joined shortly after Wilco finished recording A.M., prior to their first tour. If you want to hear even better live documents of that lineup in the early, early days of Wilco, I highly recommend checking out two shows: 5-23-95, Fox Theatre, Boulder, CO. This is a terrific show with 30+ songs spread over two sets of great rock 'n roll and alt-country (whatever) with a mini Jeff solo acoustic set in the middle: http://sooutoftune.org/concerts/473 10-25-95, Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ. Sort of the opposite of the Boulder show. More stripped-down, quiet performance with lot of acoustic in
  21. Everyone go have a listen and bask in the raw goodness of that first gig. http://sooutoftune.org/concerts/459
