  1. I can confirm that there was in fact whistling.
  2. Yes. Some guy has been requesting it for awhile, despite Jeff obviously not wanting to play it. Jeff legitimately didn't remember the song when asked about it by said guy. Jeff finally gave in to the persistent freak this year though, and it was incredible. It sounded like Jeff had been playing it for years.
  3. Reason no. 3,589 why I choose reserved seating at a GA-floor show.
  4. I'm still waiting for all those songs that they recorded in the SBS sessions that John said would be released within the year of SBS's release.
  5. I know I'm going to catch a lot of flak for this, but this was definitely one of the more forgettable Wilco shows I've seen. Please note that this has nothing to do with the anticipation of this show because it was a "hometown" show -- if anything, I had very low expectations going in. But a lot of things made the experience very mediocre. The venue was old and sterile (although I knew this ahead of time), when the sound wasn't bouncing off the low roof it was muffled, and the setlist was very, very conservative. I know Jeff said that they were playing all of their "hits" last night, but t
  6. I'm sure I'll get a lot of flak for saying this, but after the number of shows that Wilco has played over the years and the number of both good and bad things that it has experienced, I'm still amazed that Jeff Tweedy still lets the small, petty things like people holding up their cell phones bother him so much to the point where he arguably crosses the line.
  7. Why they feel the need to continue to play "Driven to Tears" is beyond me. It's such a dull cover and takes up a precious song slot that should filled by an actual Pearl Jam song. If they want to slow things down, play All Those Yesterdays or something.
  8. Nonsense. You only wish that Amongst the Waves, Force of Nature, and Unthought Known measured up to the sheer brillance that is Help, Help, Ghost, or Crapduster.
  9. For those of you who are interested, the only thing different about the Target and Ten Club versions is the packaging. The Ten Club version is in a "book" style and contains some artwork that's also included on the vinyl, whereas the Target version is standard packaging.
  10. If not for Gonna See My Friend and Supersonic, this album would be really, really decent. By far the standouts for me are Amongst the Waves, Unthought Known, and Force of Nature. Hell, I even find myself enjoying a Matt Cameron song in Johnny Guitar.
  11. Love GLB and really appreciate Grant Lee Phillips for the talent that he is. I must admit, however, that after Mobilize, my interest in him as waned. I've seen GLP in both his solo and GLB incarnations about 30 times, and will probably go see him again. But he really needs to release something that excites me, and unfortunately hasn't done so in quite some time (the music took a definite turn after Paul Kimball left the band after Copperopolis (although the production got a million times better)). Fun GLB fact: Joey Peters, then GLB's drummer, filled in and saved the day for REM after th
  12. I'm surprised that this hasn't gotten more of a mention here. I had the same reaction -- like, "Hey, this sounds familiar." "Holy crap, it is." Of course, the "Kiss and ride on the CTA" part got everyone going, even if 99% of them had no idea that Bono was actually lifting that from another band.
  13. Great show last night at the UC. Looking forward to Night #2 tonight.
  14. Agreed. That song has "opener" written all over it.
  15. Exactly. My wife and I danced to this at our wedding.
  16. Wow, at this rate, based upon what I'm able to pull up, the second show is not going to be even close to selling out.
  17. You better learn how to break dance, because that's all they allow in the "DANCE" section.
  18. Wow, did I really just spend $8.50 for shipping?!?! Dear God.
  19. What you are talking about? If it wasn't for the fadeout, this song would register in at about a mere 2 minutes 30 seconds.
  20. I guess I'll be one of the few people opting for reserved seating when they go on sale.
  21. I always get there pretty early and get a spot up against the soundbooth -- dead center. The place is so small, you're still only about 15-20 feet from the stage, and you have something to lean against if your feet/legs get tired. I'm seeing the Fleet Foxes there on 25th, and because it's a late show (11:00 first band), I'll definitely be taking advantage of the soundbooth.
  22. What about that make-shift Charter One pavilion thing near the old Miggs? I'll take anything over the Aragon (the last show I saw there was Nirvana in 1993, and I swore that I would never go back).
  23. Aside from sharing the titles from other bands, those song titles sound like they were written by a 10-year-old girl (no offense to 10-year-old girls).
