Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (out 5/25/09)
Moss replied to solace's topic in Someone Else's Song
They sounded great on SNL. Will have to check on some other stuff by them. Been around since 99? They must have been teenagers when they started. -
That's is for sure. There is nobody that even sounds close to him, a true original.

The onion just ran a list of 6 albums that should be listened to from start to finish which I thought was interesting: 1. Sinatra - Come fly with me 2. Cursive - Domestica 3. Husker Du - Zen Arcade 4. Pink Floyd - The Wall 5. King Crimson - In the court of the Crimson King 6. Parenthetical Girls - Entanglements I tend to listen to most albums start to finish but certainly there are some that almost need to be. The obvious ones are the concept albums, for example: Decemberists - Crane Wife, The Hazards of Love Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime What about non concept albums?

Just read the article. Pretty cool they invited Betts to play but the last interview I read with him he was pretty bitter. Getting kicked out of a band will do that.

This one is actually reminding me of "The Wire". Some definite similarities.
-
He could probably sneak a file in under his hair.

I was thinking PJ Harvey but you are right, Fiona Apple is closer.

The new Mastodon is pretty good. The singing is very Ozzy like. More like Sabbath era Ozzy singing over a sped up "Loud Love" era Soundgarden.

8.9 on Pitchfork. You got it? How is it?

Great album but I never considered it a "Comfort" album. Unless you find comfort in the primal scream therapy. Not knocking your choice at all, just found it unique.

I agree with you 100%.

I'm not dismissing the album, and I do like it more than green. There are some great songs on it. I think it was a huge drop off from what came before however.
-
I agree with you there. I never understand why some songs become popular. "The One I Love" is one of my least favorite REM songs.

Kid rock should combine "Midnight Rider" and "Seven mile island" and rap over it.

Thank you so much for the review. I'm even more excited about seeing him on 4/11. It's a Saturday so no work or anything, he can play until dawn for all I care. I'm really looking forward to seeing Justin Townes Earle as well. Really liking his new album. Did people sing along with Can't Hardly Wait? Because I sure as hell plan to. Man, I hope he plays Sunstroke, thanks for giving him grief about that. As long as he does Danko/Manual when I see him I could probably forgive everything. Would like to hear Streetlights live as well. He played until 1:30? Was it a long set or did he ju

Wanda Jackson does indeed rule! I saw her last year at an "E-Town" radio show taping and she was amazing.

I still like For Emma much better. Out in the Woods is way too long for me. I like him but his voice starts to wear on me before the album is done. Too much falsetto for me. 3 or 4 songs and I am ready to move on.

Yay Iowa! I'm going to stop and stay the night there on my way to Minnesota in May instead of driving right through! People do seem to think Iowa is more like Kansas than it really is.

You just described how I plan to spend my retirement years. Switch the lemonade for beer on occasion.

I would say Chronic Town for sure. Just an EP but it's fantastic. I love Fables of the Reconstruction but not sure whether to recommend it to others. Life's Rich Pageant would also be on the list.

Cool story. I would have had McNulty pour me a Jamesons. I like how on the show they go outside to hurl, then go back in and get the taste out of there mouth with another shot. I get to the point of hurling, I'm done for the night.
