  1. Just saw it this year and it was very funny. A nice change from the usual Christmas carol or Nutcracker.
  2. Went to the Isbell show last night and got a good look at his pedals. I know this thread is not really about Isbell but seems like a good gear head thread so what the heck. His entire set up was significantly different than the last time I saw him. Maybe because all the band gear was fairly recently stolen? Anyways, his set up was: Guitar (used for 99 percent of the show): Duesenberg Starplayer TV Goldtop Amp: Fender Deville (was using Sommatone last time I saw him) Distortion Pedal, not sure this was the exact one but it was definitely a ZVEX pedal, pretty sure he had the green Ibanez
  3. Shine on you crazy diamond! And of course that's Iggy the eskimo on the stool.
  4. That's exactly what I don't need. But when I hear Dinosaur Jr., Wilco, Sonic youth, etc... I'm not hearing much of a single coil sound.
  5. Seeing him the Thursday night! I will be busting this one out tomorrow.
  6. Mono version, good music for taking down all the xmas decorations.
  7. More guitar geek stuff. You hold it over the pickups on an electric guitar and it makes the string ring without having to pick it. Allows you to make any electric guitar sound like a Cello or synthesizer. Pretty cool.
  8. Tweedy has been known to use the Swart amps as well.
  9. Not as easy to use as I was hoping but some real possibilities...
  10. I'm using a Bruno Underground 30 right now. Kind of a cross between a Vox and a fender blackface.
  11. So I resolve to buy a new guitar this year, my incentive for exercising and losing weight (and bonus permitting). I am torn between a Fender Jazzmaster and a Gibson SG (maybe the Tweedy model?) I really want the jazzmaster but I already have a strat and a tele as my main guitars so buying yet another Fender seems wrong. I need something that will sound maybe beefier or fatter, or at least much different. More of a humbucker sound. The other guitarist in the band already has an ES-335 and a Les Paul so I would like to stay away from those. The SG seems like a good choice when I see how ma
  12. Ushered in the new year last night with a single malt scotch and finally started this one, loving it so far:
  13. So is it Don Don or Matthew Matthew?
  14. yeah, I had no idea I was getting this and would not have even asked for it. But I am loving it. Today I streamed Dan Carlins hardcore history, a Louis CK concert, and the NPR Best of 2011 albums blog. I could get used to this.
  15. yeah, I'm not usually a huge fan of tons of reverb but I think this album sounds great in headphones. Hoping to see him live at some point.
  16. Since you mentioned it, I read about that a long time ago and thought it was pretty cool, and of course I just found it on Wiki: The vibrato sound is fucking incredible, and it took a long time. I put down the rhythm track on an Epiphone Casino through a Fender Twin Reverb without vibrato. Then we played the track back through four old Twins, one on each side. We had to keep all the amps vibrating in time to the track and each other, so we had to keep stopping and starting the track, recording it in 10-second bursts... I wish I could remember exactly how we did the slide part -- not writing
  17. Wonder what happened? If I google Ira Kaplan all I get is lawyers. Every year, Yo La Tengo perform a string of shows at the Hoboken, New Jersey venue Maxwell's in celebration of the eight days of Hanukkah. This year, the shows will be a bit more subdued. Matablog points to a blog post on YLT's official site, where band member Ira Kaplan mentions he suffered a "pretty serious health scare" earlier this month, and will therefore be sitting down during this week's performances. But the show will still go on: "We’re looking forward to seeing you all, and to not answering any questions about wh
