Jess, you get grandfathered in because we were posting at the same time. But that's the last one!

OK people, it was a serious question. Pointing the way to other relevant threads is fine, but please, other than that, let's let it go.

Upcoming shows listed here: http://www.myspace.com/oncethemovie Not too many more US dates for the Swell Season (8/4 in SF ), but the Frames will be back through the US for a few stops in September.

This is a delayed reaction to this, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a series of "prequels" at some point. I also would not be surprised if JKR decides she can't be bothered to write them herself, and just licenses the characters for that purpose.

I'd been waiting for this one to come out in paperback.

If you're not going to rent a car, which we usually do because we're on a pretty tight schedule visiting relatives in some far-flung remote places, check out the bus and train schedules here: http://www.cie.ie/home/ There are also day trips and bus tours available there. For only seven days, I would recommend no more than a day or two in Dublin. And maybe a day in Belfast for the murals and black taxi tour, and a day in Antrim for the Giants Causeway and other sightseeing. Then the rest in the west, a minimum of three days for Galway, Clare, maybe even Sligo (Yeats Country). Edit: I

Yes, I second the murals in Belfast, and Kilmainham in Dublin. I sent Allison a bunch of links recently, let me cut and paste those from my PMs to her, and I'll be back in a minute... OK, here's what I sent to her, much of which was cribbed from info I sent to Gina last year: And now I'm noticing that no where in any of this did I mention Newgrange, which I also like very much: http://www.knowth.com/newgrange.htm

(The previous Now Reading thread is still available here, if anyone is looking for it.) which is a re-telling of this 1. I don't like it when the picture I find on-line is not the same as the book that I own (Family Daughter is the same, but I've got a different cover for Liars and Saints). 2. The author is Colin Meloy's sister. 3. I haven't been reading many real books lately (except for, you know, Harry Potter...), so I'm enjoying this one maybe a bit more than it deserves. 4. I'm not sure how I feel about the "re-telling" conceit. I would have said the first book was

Yeah, it was the Faulkner comparisons that made me think I should probably be reading her stuff. Thanks for the recommendations!

Oooh, I love Jane Eyre. I've always meant to read some Flannery O'Connor, but never managed to get to it. Any suggestions for a starting point? Oh, and welcome to VC!

In the movie, when they go to the dinner/song party, the blond woman who sings John Mitchel is Glen's mother. I'd love to hear him sing that one.
-
No, they can't see them in the book, even when they're riding them. Ha!

Now see, I like the backstory stuff! The Dumbledore stuff, especially.

Yeah, sometimes the number of threads per show or topic or whatever does get out of hand. We do try to merge threads that are on the very same topic (although I just checked, and there do seem to be a couple on the password, which snuck past the moderators ), but I don't have too much of a problem with there being multiple threads on one show, for the ticket sales, roll call, the thread that Lou posted is another good one. The general consensus seems to be that it's a friendlier place all the way around if we don't moderate that kind of stuff too heavily. We're just trying to strike a balan

Today is System Administrator Appreciation Day

I'll third this and this and toss in one of these: -
I was sorry that this story was taking place almost entirely outside of Hogwarts. Kind of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer being in high school, I liked the idea that all of this was taking place inside a school, that this was just a normal life for these kids. I was also not thrilled with all of the hopping around from place to place that Harry, Hermione, and Ron were forced to do. It felt a bit repetitive, that they kept having to move on, set up camp, set up the protective spells... I understood the need for it in the context of the story, but I was less than thrilled with those scenes.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but when I saw this I just knew. But I had to go back and find this to be sure.

Yeah, definitely. It's also plenty of time to allow for the airlines to do the bag switch, if you do decide you want to check a bag. It'll probably only take you 10 minutes or so to get from one terminal to the other, but leave yourself half an hour, just in case. Then with being at the gate 30 minutes before take-off, that gives you an extra half-hour for getting something to eat, going to the bathroom, whatever. Find the gate FIRST, though, just to be safe; don't spend half an hour eating in the first terminal and then head over.

Hi, and welcome to VC. This question gets asked on a semi-regular basis, but it's really not appropriate for anyone on this board to be sharing that kind of information. And, the response often becomes a series of posts steering the asker to some of Chicago's worst neighborhoods, or to adult theaters, or whatever. So I'm going to nip this one in the bud, and just shut it down now.
-
Yeah, when you check in, they usually ask what is your final destination, and then they'll code the bags appropriately to get them there. Just show them all of your tickets, and they'll be able to do that.
-
I may be wrong on this, but I don't think that's true. I'm pretty sure I've done trips where I switched airlines, and they transferred my luggage. You can probably call Delta and verify one way or the other. Sarah, here's a map of the Phoenix airport. Delta and US Air are in different terminals, so you'll need to take the airport shuttle bus. It's kind of up to you to make this decision, and you should probably take into account how much time you have between flights, but your first choice is to check a bag, bring the minimum with you as carry-on, and hope that your bags make the connect

Not plane-related, but the same advice given above applies to the Berkeley show, too: wear layers. This is always true in the Bay Area, but at the Greek Theater specifically, I've been there on really lovely, pleasant nights, and also on chilly nights when we all bundled up in scarves and mittens. You probably won't need mittens in August, but there's no guarantee! And Ben's advice about checking your bag is so true, make sure you let them know your final destination, and show them all of your tickets, when you check your bag. There is a system in place for transferring your bag onto all

I saw The Ten the other night. Insanely hilarious, and offensive on every possible level.

Sarah, the main thing with doing only a carry-on is to be sure to follow the TSA regulations about liquids: you get one quart-sized ziploc bag, with containers of no more than 3 ounces, and the containers actually have to fit into the bag so that the bag zips securely. http://www.tsa.dhs.gov/311/index.shtm If you don't do this, you'll be subject to someone like me behind you in line at the security gate acting snarky and making rude faces. This includes bottles of water, too, so if you want one for the plane, you'll need to buy it at the airport after you get through security. Speaking
