Yeah, because the people around here with lots of posts would never post any BS. Also, Sarchi, I'm only teasing you with this one, but... limit the number of topics started by any member? You came up with this idea?

Ha!

I suspect that this forum would require a lot more moderation than the current number of admins/moderators could handle.

That's it. I'm on full media blackout until I've actually read the thing. Starting... NOW.

Change of plans!!! Instead of Booksmith, I'll be going to Books Inc. :

We took my 8 year old nephew to the new Harry Potter this weekend. We also took him (and a friend from his class) to see the last Star Wars movie on opening day. They were both 6 at the time. It's entirely dependent on what the kid can handle. These kids did fine with Star Wars, but we went out to dinner after and discussed every possible aspect of the movie. If they'd been overly disturbed by anything they saw (they weren't), we would have talked it out with them. My two nieces are 10 and 11 years old. Last year, we showed them one episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The 10 year ol

I know!!!

I see you found it, but for anyone else who's wondering: Harry Potter#7 All Spoilers Thread

I thought there were pretty definite looks exchanged between Harry and Hermione when he made the comment. Although, since each movie has a different director, I suppose it's possible the director of the next movie just won't deal with the situation at all.

Take it to the other thread, buddy. (Only because I remember people not even wanting to hear guesses, before the last one came out. Not just because I'm a smarmy condescending hurtful bitch.)

My brother watched the first episode of The Bronx is Burning, and really liked it. Then he asked me, "So when is the last half on, is it tomorrow night?" Dude. It's an 8 part miniseries. He just doesn't have that kind of attention span.

Yeah, I'm going to Booksmith on Haight Street. A couple of HP books ago, my cousin Mo was coming out of the bar a few doors down from there just after midnight, and realized that the release party was going on. So she just joined in, half-drunk, with the kids in PJs playing magic-themed games and answering Harry Potter trivia questions.

He did, which would have let them all know that she shouldn't have been blamed, but in Book 6, Harry and Cho aren't together. So I don't know where they go with that in the 6th movie, if they haven't really dealt with their break-up in any kind of logical way in the 5th movie.

Yeah, there are a couple of people that I'm certainly expecting to see in this thread...
-
I saw this again the other night, and I realize that what I probably should have said here was that this was the MOST traditional musical scene in this movie, but still, hardly MGM-style.
-
I hear that in the last book, it turns out that Harry and Neville are twins, and they have to fight to the death in order to destroy Voldemort. Also, Hermione marries Percy Weasley.

This thread is for geeking-out only. No spoilers, no speculation. So: I did manage to re-read all of the previous books before the next release. And I'll probably go to one of those midnight book-release things on Friday night. OK, the geek bar has been set. Who's next?

More movie vs. book spoilers below: I saw this last night. As the only adult in the group who'd read the books (the kids all felt that too much had been cut in the book-to-movie translation), I spent a lot of time afterwards filling in the blanks. The thing that bothered the rest of the group in particular was when Cho was blamed by the rest of the group for ratting out Dumbledore's Army. I explained that that was not at all how it had happened in the book, but then there was much discussion of how it completely changed the dynamic of Harry and Cho's eventual breakup.

Oh my god, lynn, I've got that same shirt!

Yeah, I agree with you there. Not such a literal interpretation. I think that the movies must be pretty meaningless (except as pretty pictures) for anyone who hasn't read the books. Even with the ridiculous length of those things, from what I've seen they've left out some pretty major plot points (yes, I really am that big of a geek...). Speaking of which: I also vowed to re-read all the books before the 7th comes out, and it took me a lot less time than I had imagined it would. I'm probably going to have to go into hibernation with the new one though, there's no way I'm going anywhere

That was the one traditional movie-musical scene in what was otherwise an entirely anti-musical musical (god, that was a stupid sentence...). I've been thinking lately that two of my favorite movies from the past couple of years have been this one, and a very traditional musical: Colma: The Musical (now playing in SF and NYC, so if you live anywhere near either of those major metropolitan areas, get your ass out to see it ).

It was not. According to Wilcobase, it was played as early as June 2001.

Stupid west coast time zone with the home run derby going on out here. The first episode was pre-empted last night. (I know nothing about baseball, but I love a good miniseries! ) I had a vague idea before. Now I have a slightly less-vague idea. The one-arm-down thing, right? Evonne, there was a thing in the Chronicle the other day about how the "new" ballpark was specifically angled to block the wind, so it's a considerably more pleasant experience than Candlestick. And yet, people from all over this great land of ours are still complaining about the cold... Ballpark was d

I love her already, and I'm very jealous of the folks who'll get to meet her in Portland next month. Are you sure you can't ship her down for the Berkeley show, too?

The other one is at 666 posts, so I think it's time to start a new one. All I know about baseball is this: sports tourists seem even more inclined than other tourists to stop in the middle of the sidewalk to take a picture of apparently nothing at all, and to be completely befuddled by our public transportation.
