This really pinpoints exactly what music videos have been missing all these years: clogging.

OK, I no longer feel so geeky (well, except for the fact that I actually went looking for this information ): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathly_Hallo...cts)#Elder_Wand This is what I love most about the internet: not the instantaneous access to any nonsense you could ever think to look for (although that's pretty damn good), but that there is always someone out there who is actually geekier, or more obsessive, or more whatever, than I am.

Voldemort was in physical possession of the wand, but he never actually disarmed Dumbledore for it, so he was never the wand's master. But then when he's dueling Harry, Harry says that they'll know who is the master of the wand by how it reacts (or something like that); Voldemort is dueling Harry with the Elder Wand, assuming that he is it's master. But Harry is the wand's real master (since he disarmed Draco), so it flies out of Voldemort's hand and lands in Harry's. Is that right? Yeah, I definitely lost track of some of that!

I forgot about this, too: King Dork. I don't know about the age-appropriateness, but since Atonement has made the list , I figure this one should be OK.

Yeah, I was iffy on that one, too... Edit: OK, I had to go look this up on a HP message board. Draco was master of the Elder Wand because he disarmed Dumbledore when Dumbledore was using it (just before Snape kills him). Yes, now I remember that. But then, was Draco using that wand when Harry disarmed him? No, he couldn't have been, because Voldemort had it. So if Harry just happened to disarm the master of the Elder Wand, at a time when he wasn't using the wand, that still makes him the wand's master? Yep, still iffy. (And for anyone who's wondering, yes, the more I type this, the

We moved into a new building a few months ago, and the elevators here are a mess. This isn't just a new building to us, it's a brand-new building. People have been stuck in elevators, and even worse, a few people have been in elevators that have dropped a lot more quickly than they should have. I feel really lucky that I haven't been stuck yet, but a couple of people have told me that they've been stuck and had to climb up to the next floor to get out of an elevator.

I think this one's really cute. Would it be big enough for all her books, though?
-
Exactly. They are my 10-year old niece's favorite characters. She's away at camp this week, so she won't even start reading until this Sunday, but I don't think it's going to be pretty when she gets there.

Yeah, that was a very bittersweet moment. I don't think we'd ever seen Molly really mix it up before, but Fred was already dead at that point, and when she saw that Ginny was up against Bellatrix, it was definitely her time to kick ass.

I had a discussion on that subject with someone at work, a few years back. He was concerned that his then-teenage daughter was reading lots of garbage, but I told him that I spent a whole lot of summers in my teenage years reading a whole lot of Jackie Collins, and it really didn't do me too much harm (except for the fact that I can never really enjoy sex unless it's in the back of a limo or on a private jet, but really, isn't that true of most people?).

I love this book Places I Never Meant To Be: Original Stories by Censored Writers and any time I pick it up, I'm reminded of some of the young-adult authors whose books I read and loved. Some of my favorites: Norma Klein Norma Fox Mazer Paul Zindel Like the Judy Blume young adult books, I can't guarantee that these wouldn't seem terribly dated to a girl Emily's age, but oh, I ate these up when I was in junior high.

Music from Once on TV and the radio (and live at Amoeba, yay!):

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is a classic for teenage girls. And Kate, have you ever seen Judy Blume's young adult stuff? Deenie is the one that first comes to mind, but I remember reading a bunch of her books as a teenager (I mean, even besides Forever ). Although, if I was reading them then, I don't know how dated they'll seem now... Tiger Eyes was another of her good ones. And Jen, I also read the Sweet Valley High stuff. Yikes! Edit: I forgot to mention my favorite scene in any of the Sweet Valley High books: when the beautiful deaf girl gets pressured into trying coke, a

OK, we're going to call this one done now. No more e-assholery, or I'll shut this thing down.

Congrats! Yay for baby blueydsoul!

Don't listen to him! (But still: hee!) Congratulations!

I know exactly what you mean! I figured I was willing to take the chance that VCers would be respectful of this. Trish brought up the possibility that someone would run through the pre-release party at the bookstore shouting spoilers and ruining it for the most rabid fans. After having attended the event, I told her there would be no way that anyone who tried that would have made it out of there alive. I've got a pretty high tolerance for geekiness (being one myself ), but damn, some of those people were hardcore. And yeah, I read for about an hour after I got home on Friday night, the

Lemsky, the person who wrote this review of the Torino show says that he spoke to John, and they're supposed to be back in Italy in October or later in the fall. So it sounds like there's something more planned for Europe.

I think Vida Blue was at the cash register next to me at the shop at AT&T Park today (we were both stocking up on all-star game merch at 30% off!). I thought he looked familiar (and he had a very "middle aged former athlete" look about him), and in addition to his shopping bags, he also had a fed-ex box with VIDA BLUE magic-markered on the side. I think that being able to have your fed-ex delivered to the ballpark, and not having to wait at home for the delivery, would be one of the coolest perks of being an ex-ballplayer.

Was it this?

I'll have to check that one out. I just read Cane River, it's the One City One Book book for this year.
