  1. I didn't see the episode either, but a cousin told me the kid wore two different Wilco shirts in different scenes.
  2. Last chance, y'all. I'm going to go through this thread this weekend and see if we've got enough non-Wilco artwork, with enough VCers represented, to do this. PLEASE read the above posts on why we don't want Wilco-themed artwork, on the size/resolutions required, etc. If you've got something posted in here and I need a different size, I'll be contacting you to see if you've got an alternate version. And before putting any of these in a calendar, I'll be requesting your express permission, so if you've posted in here, please keep an eye on your PMs, check your spam folders, whatever it take
  3. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5043.The_Pillars_of_the_Earth Has anyone read The Pillars of the Earth? I've seen it recommended a couple of places, but the wildly love-it-or-hate-it reviews on this page are making me think twice...
  4. http://vimeo.com/7944778 I am going to spend this weekend watching this, listening to Marah's "A Christmas Kind of Town" album, and drinking eggnog straight from the carton.
  5. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Sparky is still recovering from the hurricane. I believe his last post said his neighborhood was pretty hard hit.
  6. Also, how great are these pictures?? I love that you can tell that the photographers told the kids to look tough. I still worry about running into my niece (the one on the left) in a dark alley. My sister had that Ponderosa picture on her desk for years, and most of her co-workers had commented on how cute the kids were. One day my parents stopped in to her office to take her to lunch, and when they'd left, her paralegal said "you mean that guy in the picture is your dad?? I always thought he was part of the deal, we'll toss a grizzled old guy in to make it look legit!"
  7. I'm not a parent, but I'm a big fan of babies. Congrats on all the new arrivals (and the older "babies", too)!
  8. This year, I'm going to go big with just one "thankful-for": I'm thankful for all the years that I had with the best dad in the world. Feel free to be a bit more light-hearted with yours.
  9. Whoa. Fantastic. Thanks to Rob and whoever are the current WB angels!
  10. Agreed. Starbucks will buy the whole brand, this time next year you'll be paying $4 for a caramel brulee twinkie and $4.50 for a snowball-flavored latte.
  11. My cousin the cop has never been that crazy about donuts. Since his youth, he's been a Hostess Cupcakes guy.
  12. What do you mean by "grousing or worse"? Bush's margin in 2000 was much slimmer than Obama's margin in either of the last two elections, and I don't recall any talk (or, any serious groundswell of talk) about secession. Grousing and gloating on either side, it's lame, but whatever. But when a significant percentage of the population is unwilling to accept the results of a free and fair election, that's where the breach comes in.
  13. Yeah, looks like last year there was only about a month's notice, and tickets went on sale just a few days after Sue posted the info: http://viachicago.org/topic/47428-tweedy-solo-shows/
  14. People are still discussing the election, so I don't see a reason to lock it (yet!). It'll fade away, or lost highway can lock it, or someone can start a new political thread (2016 might not get off the ground just yet).
  15. Sparky is more than likely gearing up for today's Sandy aftershock, so let's cut him some slack.
  16. Agreed. But that award also falls into the "who cares?" category, so...
  17. I'd just like to point out that the nominees from each team were announced in July, Melky was suspended in August. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlbpaa/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120712&content_id=34860826&vkey=mlbpaa2008&fext=.jsp
  18. The NYC Marathon has been cancelled. I think that's the right decision, and it should have been made days ago.
  19. I generally watch baseball with some combination of my sisters (and one brother-in-law), my mom, my nieces, and one nephew. So I don't know if it's a gender-specific thing in a crowd of female fans, or if my family is just predisposed to sympathize with the underdog, but it's always a good sign for the Giants when the phrase most commonly heard during a game is "oh, this poor guy..." Whether it's a pitcher who's walked two in a row, a fielder who makes a costly error, a hitter who could drive in the tying run but instead strikes out looking, we can never be happy for our team without some li
  20. This weekend, between the earthquakes in British Columbia (big) and Southern California (small), the associated tsunami warning in Hawaii, and the storm prep on the east coast, it struck me how many friends I have in so many far-flung places. More people to worry about! Stay safe, wherever you are.
  21. I can't believe a pitcher is allowed to finish a game after being bonked like that. Fister did great, impressive nerve to stay out there and play it out, but I thought for sure he'd at least be whisked away for evaluation after he came out. I guess they've got some x-ray facility at the park, maybe they did something right there on site, but a hit like that really scares me.
  22. Our local NPR station (KQED) also put out a really good voter guide this year. Most people would probably assume that would be slanted to the left, but I think it looks pretty neutral (although, I'm slanted pretty far left myself, so maybe that's just me!).
  23. Well, Mota's back, but Mota had some deniability, and seems at least a little bit contrite. I think Melky's nonsense with the fake web site, etc., would make it a lot harder for Giants fans to accept him back, and I'm hoping that management will take that into account. But that's pure speculation, I certainly don't have any inside info.
  24. I don't think I said it. I also have no interest in seeing him back as a Giant.
