  1. Thanks for the pics, everyone! A reminder though, that while we love to see your Wilco-themed shots, they're not eligible for inclusion in the calendar.
  2. Somebody over here (http://viachicago.org/topic/47989-kane-county-show-wheres-the-info/?do=findComment&comment=1504698) had this info a week ago. It seemed unlikely, but... wow. Wish I could be there!
  3. I seriously keep hoping that someone else will post their links in this thread. But at least I'm not shy!! http://awsf2012.kintera.org/maudiemc I'm doing the AIDS Walk this weekend. As always, anything you can spare is very much appreciated.
  4. Well, they're done in Europe as of August 18. And their next show listed on the Wilcoworld page is September 16, in Columbia, MO. So it's logistically feasible, anyway... Any chance that site confused Wilco with the Waco Brothers?
  5. That my be the most fantastic video I've ever seen!!! Before I clicked on it, I was hoping it was that one of the roar rising from Vancouver when you won the Olympic hockey game.
  6. So much in this thread that makes me so happy. Definitely doesn't need to be photography, any high-res reproducible art will work! One thing to keep in mind, this has come up in the past when we asked for submissions for shirts, etc.: we cannot/will not/do not sell Wilco merch. Anything with vague allusions to lyrics, etc. is fine, but we do want to be careful with that. So even though I cross-posted in the Wilco photo contest thread, we're really not looking for the same thing they're looking for. No specifically Wilco-y pics, please.
  7. And if your pic doesn't get picked (d'oh!) by Wilco, please consider sharing it with VC. http://viachicago.org/topic/47978-via-chicago-2013-calendar/
  8. After taking a hiatus for a few years... Anyone have any interest in submitting pics for a VC calendar for 2013? I'm starting way early this year, because the last time we tried this, it got crazy late and we just didn't get to it, and then I've let it slide for a while now (years! I've let it slide for years!). So if you're interested in participating, please check out the info from the last time we did this, posted below. It's a fun thing, because we've got a lot of talented photographers here. Let me know if you've got any questions, but for now, post any pics you'd like to share
  9. My statement that Tweedy often sounds bored/ticked off was specifically in reference to his responses in interviews. I was not implying that he sounded that way during the shows.
  10. I haven't even watched this yet, but... doesn't Jeff sound bored and/or ticked off almost all the time?
  11. I don't think Jules' statement is out of line with anything he's posted about his life and work previously, and I don't think anyone here needs to be 100% forthcoming on all the details of his life. And I'm certainly pleased to hear that there's increased demand for his company's services, and he's been hiring. That's good news no matter what side of the fence you're on.
  12. Oh, and following up on Bumgarner's 12 Ks and home run on Tuesday night, plus Cain's 14K perfection last night, what can we predict for Zito today? I'm thinking 16 strike outs, and he hits a grand slam.
  13. My sister's college roommate gave her 4 great tickets to last night's game. I stayed home, but two of my sisters, my mom, and my niece (who LOVES Cain) got to be there for it.
  14. They are normally paid for by local and state governments. I believe Obama's point was that when local and state governments are hurting to the point where police, firefighters and teachers are being laid off, that's an area where the federal government could step in to help the middle class (or a small subset of the middle class, which would be those specific workers, and the businesses that they in turn patronize), and also not leave those communities in a position of being without those essential services. Yeah, I think that's what I meant.
  15. There are a lot of bisexuals out there who will be so thrilled that you've cleared that up for them!
  16. I still can't decide if this is for real or not. IRDB, do you ever read Dan Savage? His Letter of the Day on his blog yesterday was about this very thing: http://slog.thestran...thank-you-noted
  17. I'm a fan of any kind of series that spirals out of control! And I haven't watched the TV version yet, so that'll be fun to catch up on after I finish the book. As a long-time fan of Mike Daisey (yikes!), I can say I do know a bit about L. Ron Hubbard, since he was one of the subjects of Daisey's Great Men of Genius series, which I saw a few years ago. Of course, now I have to wonder if any of what I heard at that show was really true.
  18. I may save this one for vacation reading!
  19. I've only read Swann's Way (the first volume of Remembrance of Things Past), but intend to read the rest of it... someday, someday... There's a plot in there, somewhere, but the plot's not really the point. On a much lighter note: I picked up "Why We Broke Up" by Daniel "Lemony Snicket" Handler yesterday, and the actual physical picking-up of it was kind of the point for that one. It weighs a ton! I haven't even cracked it yet, but looks like it's printed on very thick, glossy paper. I think it's one of those young-adult novels with lots of illustrations (notes that the teens have w
  20. At the end of June, we'll be spending a week at Camp Mather, San Francisco's "family camp". It's Yosemite-adjacent so we'll get to hike and ogle to our hearts' content. I can't wait!
  21. I like Revenge! Just came in here to see if anyone else heard that one (I just watched it on DVR today). Nice use in a flashback to 2002.
  22. Is Adam Ross a VCer?? I just received a Facebook friend request from him. He's either on here, or hacked into my library account!
  23. And I've just added Ladies and Gentlemen to my library request list!
