Is Adam Ross a VCer?? I just received a Facebook friend request from him. He's either on here, or hacked into my library account!
-
And I've just added Ladies and Gentlemen to my library request list!

I went to college with Adam Ross. Didn't know him well, but he's one of several classmates of mine whose books I've picked up in the past few years, only to realize later, halfway through the book and finally getting around to taking a peek at the author's picture that "hey, I know that guy!" "Mr. Peanut" was amazing. Will definitely check out the short stories!

Preventative care = Ladies, paps and mammograms, too! -
I'm an overachiever. Thanks for the donations, folks! I always know I'll find some sweethearts around here.

'Tis the season, once again, for sponsored walks, etc. I'm bumping this for my own selfish purposes (links to all my upcoming events in my sig line!!!), but please, I love to hear about what everyone else is doing, too. Post your links, everyone! First event up for me this year is the Cystic Fibrosis walk: http://www.cff.org/G...trides/MaudieMc edit: Oh yeah, and the free iPad offer is no longer valid.

How about "your bad" for the vague thread title?? -
"misrepresenting" might even be too strong a word. I'd say they're glossing over or over-simplifying some issues, but for what they intended to do with that video, there's probably no way they could have gone into all the intricacies of the situation. I certainly don't think they're bad guys, but I can also understand why some people wouldn't feel that donating to their group is the most effective way to help resolve the situation. And if nothing else, they're raising awareness (which they themselves say is a huge part of what they're trying to do), and there's certainly nothing wrong with

Do you no longer believe in what you posted? Do you think the cause isn't important enough, or the organizing group legit enough, to withstand a little internet scrutiny? The whole point of the video is to raise awareness, and by posting it here, you've probably brought it to the attention of at least a few people who wouldn't have seen it elsewhere. Wasn't that what you were going for? Why delete it now? (although, the changing of the title probably brought in a few more people than would have clicked on your original title, too, so kudos to the moderator who did that)

This is a discussion board, and discussion is allowed. If the linked post was offensive in some way, you might have a point, but something like the video you posted is/should be fodder for discussion. Invisible Children's response has already been posted, and you should feel free to refute the linked info. But if you want people to watch the video, you have to accept that people are going to want more information, from all angles.

It's happened before. http://viachicago.org/topic/35750-wilco-in-the-jumble-the-other-day/ Check out that thread, a few posts into in you'll see that the jumble cartoonist is a VCer! Celebrity in our midst! There was a Tweedy-and-Mavis themed jumble a while back, too: http://viachicago.org/topic/47106-mavis-staples-and-jeff-tweedy-in-todays-jumble-1-3-12/

http://thegirlwho.net/journal/ Monica Bielanko is married to Serge Bielanko from Marah, which is why I know about her, but not why I read her blog. She's a great writer, funny and terrifyingly honest. Nothing is off limits, although lately she's a lot more family-oriented than she's been in past entries. Serge has also started blogging lately, they have two children and he's got some great posts about being a dad. There are links through thegirlwho. And their house recently burnt down, both of their posts about that are heartbreaking.

I forget who said this, but someone I follow tweeted yesterday that "If Santorum weren't such a disgusting, vile homophobe, he'd actually be kind of a charming Bad News Bears story."

Problem Signing In (just last 2 days)
gogo replied to roadhse ma's topic in Speakers Speaking In Code
I still have this problem, too. We're lucky enough that there's a work-around for that one, even though it's still annoying. But some people can't sign in AT ALL, they get some pretty odd messages. The admins are working on all of this, though. Fingers crossed that things get sorted out soon! -

Also, I ended up getting those third row (Row CCC) seats just a couple of weeks ago. Just checked the site again on a whim, and there they were. I got Row H in the pre-sale. -

I was in the third row, left, and from where I was sitting, looked like the first two rows of the center section were up and down, but behind that seemed to be a pretty solidly standing group. -
We're sorry we didn't go! Although, none of us can carry a tune, so maybe it was just as well. Next time though, definitely! Have a great time next week, kisses to you and MT.

Hey, blogger from this post, you know who else doesn't dance? People with really comfy seats who didn't get the memo about not using their phones/cameras. I saw people texting during the show, LOTS of pictures being taken, and at least one video (about 30 seconds of One Sunday Morning, for some reason). But until we were goaded into it, 99.7% of the crowd sat through the first hour-and-a-half of the show. So, still not seeing the connection between having a phone out and really getting into the show... -
I've enjoyed White Denim 2 of the 3 times I've seen them now! Sunday night in SF they went a little nuts with an extended jam, which is totally not my thing (although several people I talked to said they liked that night the best, so I guess it's all just a personal preference thing). But in San Jose and Oakland they played some cool songs, bouncy and guitary and almost funky at times.
