I'm a big fan of cold, crisp weather (easy for me to say, here where if it gets down to 40, we all go nuts!), and early-dark evenings. Also, any kind of twinkling lights, candles, sparklies, etc., make me happy, so this is a great time of year for all that jazz.

I think this might be my problem here, I'm much more likely to know and like the single-girl songs! I may have to format this as two album sides: one with the snarky songs, and one happy/sappy side.

I've got a cousin getting married at the new year, and we're having a non-gift shower for her in a couple of weeks. I'd like to make her a mix CD as my non-gift to her, so I'm looking for suggestions for wedding or marriage-themed songs. And because she's a good sport, I'm going to toss in a few "don't do it!" songs, too.

That whole scene looks so warm and cozy to me, the tree, the placement of the tree by the windows, the piano. Looks like such a classic christmas-y setting. We haven't gotten ours yet, but word is that the trees are phenomenal this year. The tree sellers are reporting lots of early sales, just because people are driving past the lots and seeing how amazing they look. This makes me very happy.

"It had to be said"? Someone is planning a trip anyway, thinks it would be cool to see Wilco while there, and that makes them a jerk, somehow? Your post seems like a pretty major over-reaction to a legit question, to me.

Effects of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) on Troops Marching."

I wouldn't be surprised if they did in fact "volunteer" for this (maybe in exchange for getting out of some other assignment), but it seems unlikely to me that they had enough information to have given truly informed consent. -
As someone who's already planning travel up through the end of next year, I'd certainly appreciate an early heads-up on some dates!

Things like venues announcing shows, like posted here, are one source of early info. And it's a while since I checked it out, but the website for High Road Touring used to give some pretty good hints, too. But yeah, if anyone knows anything, it'll definitely turn up here pretty quickly. Just doesn't seem to be much info floating around lately, unfortunately.

I pick this one.

Or, the thread could just be locked. Or, I could advise dark that all he has to do is delete his post, and this thread goes away. But allowing it to sink out of sight just seems a more graceful and gracious way of responding to this, doesn't it?

1. I really hope your avatar gets to hang around through the new year, because the oven mitt cracks me up every time I see it. 2. Last weekend, my sister was saying that her son's soccer team had been beat 8-0, and one of the other kids said it was "total pownage", and she had no idea what he was talking about. So I tried to explain, but she wasn't getting it. The next day, we were waiting in line for Harry Potter, I was reading VC on my phone, and showed her this post. The fact that it was a word that other people use, too, didn't make her any happier about it. 3. I'm in. Gorey/chri

Since dark seems to have been quite sincere in apologizing for the way he worded this, and for offending anyone, I'm going to suggest that maybe we just let this thread die a peaceful death, sink to the bottom of the page, etc. Thanks.

\I also had no clue what that was, but now that you say it, I totally see it, and I love it! I would love to include some original artwork, and yours is beautiful! I'm wondering about the sizes, though. Some of your pieces that I checked out there on your flickr seem like they'd be too small to work. Do you have other sizes of those, or maybe I just didn't check out enough of them and missed a bigger one? Thanks!

We had some truly outstanding thankful-fors at our house last night. A few people went above and beyond, specifically thanking each other for making a big difference in their lives, for being there during very tough times, for being part of the village that helped raise their children... That's how every Thanksgiving should be.

Nice one, Jess! I'm also thankful for generosity, in any form. And I'm thankful for people posting in this thread!

As always, I am beyond thankful for my family. And as always, I'm thankful for my friends, those I've met in person, and those of you who may or may not be imaginary, but still add great joy, or at least some interesting texture, to my life. I'm thankful for good books and trashy TV, and for comedians and musicians and personal trainers (real-life trainers, not the ones on trashy TV). I'm thankful for Joss Whedon, Donal Logue, Matthew Sweet, A.S. Byatt, and Aubrey Huff. I'm thankful for healthy knees and ankles, and the sports-massage therapist who fixed that weird twinge I had in my h

I was thinking that the coffee, plus a VC mug, could be a fabulous gift for someone!!! http://www.zazzle.com/viachicagostore* I've got one of those mugs, and I really do love it.

I had to come look at this on the desktop, because I couldn't see the clip on my phone, and I thought maybe it was the Rangers flipping me off. Happy birthday Kristen!! And thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! I feel like I'm not around here as much these days, but VC is still my home on the internet.

It's a cat with drumstick legs rolling around on Sky Blue Sky. With foliage.

During my lunch hour, I stumbled geekily upon this review (minorly spoiler-y, fyi) http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/mwop/moviefile/2010/11/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-h.php which gives a much heartier thumbs-up than most other reviews I've read. And in some ways, reads as if it was written entirely in response to the concerns I posted above!

That arm with the drumstick is simultaneously creeping me out and cracking me up. Oh-so-very seasonally appropriate!

I'm bumping this for movie discussion. I bumped the all-spoilers rather than the no-spoilers thread, because, well, who cares about spoilers for the movie versions? This scene will be in the second movie, I assume? Although, I'm kind of thinking they'll just skip this bit entirely, because I'm not sure how well it will translate to the screen. I'm getting pissed off about this possibility in advance, just in case. From the reviews I've seen, this is kind of the problem with this first-half movie, which is sort of what I expected. Lots of yakety-yak, H/R/H angst, etc., not enough
