Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince: Let'S Hear From The Geeks!
gogo replied to gogo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I always feel that way, too. One of the women I was with for this one said that when they were all standing there in the tower for the big climactic scene, she felt like it just should have been over by now. But I disagreed, I would have rather had another 30 minutes to build up to that scene, as I mentioned earlier, with the battle, etc. -
D'oh! Although, this makes you the official photographer, right?

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince: Let'S Hear From The Geeks!

OK, yes, the pincers thing was adorable. Although, I don't think that the Liquid Luck actually made him "high" in the book. It was a well-being feeling, but not otherwise altered, I didn't think. I think the reason most people hate when something is left out in the movie is because it's a part that they particularly enjoyed in the book. I also feel that the movies just don't make as much sense, plot-wise, with some of those sections left out. After seeing these movies, I often find myself answering questions from whichever non-book people I've seen them with. (Can we all just pretend -
Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince: Let'S Hear From The Geeks!

I kind of forget the chain of events from the book, but wasn't the big fight going on before the Malfoy/Dumbledore showdown? So that was a moment of stillness, just a battle of wills, in the middle of a whole mad battle. I kind of liked that set-up, if I'm remembering it properly. -

I think that's very likely. That's definitely a section that could be cut from the next movie. Although, Book 7 is going to be TWO movies, so they'd better not cut too much! -
[lie]Between the Chicago and St. Louis dates, they'll be doing a week-long residency at the Fillmore in SF. Opening acts will include the Nels Cline Singers, the Autumn Defense, Pronto, and Jim O'Rourke flying in for a Loose Fur set.[/lie]

I don't think having to stick periods in between initials is all that big of a deal, but I did just notice that the board is automatically capitalizing every word in a new thread title, and it also capitalizes the S after an apostrophe. So there'S some weirdness going on there. See, like that ^^^^^^^^^.

OK, I'm doing this. I know there are enough geeks here to get in on this thread! Note: this post contains not only movie spoilers (only if you haven't read the book), but also a spoiler from the next book, so if you haven't read the books and only see the movies, I'm spoiling #7 for you here, too. I saw the movie Sunday night with my twelve year old (supergeek) niece, and my most hipster friends. I don't know who enjoyed it more, the kid or the supposedly hip adults. Quidditch scenes looked great. The girl who played Lavendar was good, although in the books, I always pictured her

Is the board not as active as it once was?
gogo replied to Tweedling's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Zac, you're supposed to send each mod $50 before your first post can be approved. I don't seem to have received that yet. I'll tell you how the board has changed: no thread for the new Harry Potter movie?!? This place used to be crawling with geeks! Where have all the HP nerds gone...? -
I love to hear you talk about music.

Via Chicago's Top 100 Albums of All Time: Summer 2008 edition
gogo replied to gogo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I like the idea of Top 100 Bands. It still feels kind of too soon to do the albums again (I know it's been a year, but will people's tastes really have changed that much? Will we have enough new entries?). Maybe I'll shoot for Bands in September or so, then the albums again after the first of the year. -

I just edited the Nhl title to N.H.L. I think that's probably the easiest work-around.

I was in San Diego for a Wilco show, and immediately after the show I walked past a restaurant called "Ole' Madrid", but in my Wilco-addled state I read it as "Ol' Madrid". I've always wondered about that, is that a reference to the Embarcadero in SF? There must be other places where the waterfront is referred to as the Embarcadero. And this doesn't really count, but I've been on Mermaid Avenue.

Wow, just reading the last page of posts is making me drool for some of these mixes! I'll be downloading a bunch this weekend.

I really need to send you a copy of my dad's book.

Two months, people! Damn. I've just now finished Swann's Way, plus this one: Why so many Brooklyn books for me recently? Still working on the one about the Bridge (never really started, actually). I had to return it to the library and check it out again to re-start the clock. I've also still got the Ishi book, that's actually in my bag right now, along with this: I've been avoiding that one, it didn't really look like something I'd enjoy, but it's the One City One Book pick for this year, and I always like to get in on those. I've promised my niece that afte

I can't find the "was this thread necessary?" graphic. I don't have a particular problem with the picture, but I am finding some of the responses offensive. Fair warning: if this thing doesn't die soon, it's getting merged into the RSGF thread.

Ha! I also went to the Sioux Falls show the night before, allowing me to cross both South Dakota and Iowa off of my list.

I have such fond memories of that show.

Hey Jim, Looks like neither of the shows you're looking for are posted at the Owl&Bear archive http://www.owlandbear.com/wilco-archive/ but that doesn't mean that they're not available. There is a trading subforum further down the page, someone there may be able to help you out. Also, I'm sure the Owl folks would be mighty pleased to get their hands on that uncirculated show of yours. Welcome to VC!

Headed To N.Y.C. For The First Time! Suggestions?

For shorter lines, I recommend the South Street Seaport TKTS. It's a little out of the way, but with your unlimited metro card , easy enough to get to. See a Martin Rivas campfire show. He's Twisted Acres here on VC, the nicest guy on the planet, and you're guaranteed to leave the show with a smile on your face. Definitely walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. The Williamsburg and Manhattan bridges are also walkable, although I've never walked across the Manhattan, so I can't vouch for that one. The Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge has Grimaldi's pizza, and the Brooklyn Heights Promen
