  1. i have a feeling that Pollard may not have the range to sing OIRS anymore. anyone gonna be at the Boston or NYC shows this weekend? i will be at both.
  2. i like the cover of 'Jump' the best. Roddy seemed to run out of steam rather quickly, and the production of those two records hasn't aged well. I'd say that Pat Fish (aka The Jazz Butcher) and Lawrence (of Felt) were far better unheralded songwriters of that era.
  3. i spent 3 weeks there on my honeymoon in '95, one on the north and two on the south. seemed like a good split. i personally wouldn't skip Dunedin, as i had an absolute blast down there...how could i not, hanging out @ the Empire and drinking beers w/ Peter Jefferies, Michael Morley, Alastair Galbraith, etc? a glacier hike and a milford sound trip are a must. i was blown away by coromandel too. didn't make it to rotorua; headed down the west coast via new plymouth (traded a bunch of records w/ Brian Wafer of Ima Hitt) and took the ferry from Wellington to Picton. Nelson was really great, and
  4. i had no idea that Bar/None still operated.
  5. the Drones as in the Australian band? i like them a lot.
  6. damn! either i was already living in Dublin by then, or i was napping and totally missed out. where was it, at Harborlights? i like that band.
  7. didn't see the show, but i've got a poster that says Elf Power opened for Wilco. i've personally only see Conor Oberst and Califone open shows (not counting Solid Sound). when did SY open for Wilco?
  8. awful. recently i ran into billy at the superchunk show, and then later at the teenage fanclub show...he said he was gonna be in touch about something he could use a photographer for...i guess i'll never find out what he was planning. total force in the boston music scene, and truly one of a kind. gerard cosloy and others pay tribute: http://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/remembering-the-human-tornado-that-was-billy-ruane
  9. one of the main reasons i am bummed i never caught a Black Flag show when they were in their prime.
  10. i saw Anal Cunt a few years ago but it was pretty lowkey. only time i've seen fire on stage was when Gibby dumped a third of a bottle of lighter fluid into an inverted cymbal, lit it, and hit it, sending the flames to the ceiling. this was a long time pre-Great White (probably 91 or so) but i was eyeing the exits in case i needed to use it. those two Butthole Surfers shows were also extremely warped, and menacing.
  11. these not far enough off the track for you? hey aardvark gleemer some drilling implied quality of armor dodging invisible rays johnny appleseed a good flying bird jar of cardinals
  12. for the audience, and performer (~0:49)...the greatest live band in the history of music. so glad i got to see 'em again last year.
  13. i love the Furries, too. but there's been a decline in the last two records...Gruff's solo LPs have been better (and the live show, too...seriously, the SFA show at last year's ATP was painful, whereas the Rhys solo show i saw in '08 was really great). back on topic, if there's UT reunion tour, i'd go see it, but it's awfully self-centered to think that the fanbase would have anything to influence this.
  14. my friend Brad Trent does a lot of excellent work too, and he specializes in portraiture...check it out: http://www.bradtrent.com/
  15. hey, much obliged for the shout outs! judging from Autumn's site, are you specifically looking to more portraiture work? i mainly do live shoots, but i can tell you that Shawn Brackbill is a kickass photographer and has taken some great shots of a lot of my favorite musicians like the Melvins and Boredoms. Roger Kisby is another excellent shooter I've met via the ATP fests, he does some nice work. Kalle's a Finnish photographer who's work I have a ton of respect for as well: http://www.bjorklid.net/
  16. no mention yet of the Uffizi, which if you like renaissance art is a must see. if you happen to make it to Florence. two hr train ride, well worth it if you have an extra day or two to spend. plus, todd trainer named his dog that.
  17. this was probably the funniest bit of the Matador 21 Emcee'ing, courtesy of Wurster and Scharpling
  18. seriously, it's an amazing song, and it's not like SWD was some one and done indie label band...two records on A&M, one on Geffen...if they missed the top 250, then yeah...maybe a bit too obscure. 885 songs and no mention? heretical. CtK, good to see you.
  19. In other words, the On Fillmore set at Solid Sound. which i liked
  20. i dig Cline's playing quite a bit, but he's no this guy: interesting post, though, and i tend to agree w/ most of it.
  21. bullshit. they list 885 songs and 'Son of Mustang Ford' by Swervedriver isn't on it? worthless.
  22. i don't have the best fit photo but... Ashton Kutcher as Glenn Kotche
