  1. a lot of it depends on the band...if it's a big show w/ lights and all that crap to work out, it's a fair bet that the set list will not vary much at all from show to show. if the artist is an FM radio warhorse, chances are most fans don't give a shit about whatever they have released over the last 15 years and want to hear the hits. with the advent of setlist.fm or similar sites, it's easy to see how the sets vary night to night, so if you have a tour date that's in the middle to latter of the tour, you can judge to see if it makes sense to see two nights or not. i would be pretty bummed
  2. i'll be @ the previous night's show. should be a lot of fun.
  3. the 3rd installment of All Tomorrow's Parties, held at Kutsher's, concluded with a massive performance of a minimalist composition, the dirge/drone/noise spectacle of Altar that Boris and Sunn O))) created four years ago. Tons of smoke, incredibly loud, and immovable as a auditory monolith.
  4. apparently no metal bands put out recorded songs in that decade either. weird.
  5. i can't believe that they think Kim Deal wrote a better song than Bob Pollard (Cannonball vs Game of Pricks). if you don't want to keep clicking new pages, here's a one-stop shopping experience: http://tacim.blogspot.com/2010/09/pitchfork-top-200-tracks-of-1990s.html too much hip-hop/pop for my tastes...surprisingly riot grrl stuff gets a lot of props too. i can't begin to remember the last time i played that "Her Jazz" record from Huggy Bear. was pretty psyched to this, though...brilliant song from a band w/ a lot of them: 135. Super Furry Animals - Ice Hockey Hair i haven't heard 18
  6. i think they had an inspired choice hiring Peter Kember (aka Sonic Boom) as producer. i like the record quite a bit.
  7. you really can't figure out the difference between state money being spent on a state-sponsored activity, and state workers spending their payroll as they please? the word on the street is that Tyler was highly influenced by this clip
  8. a ) glad to hear i've got yr respect. it's about damned time. b ) winner of the most specious correlation award. try harder next time c ) "I am writing about the Grandstand concerts at this year’s New York State Fair. You reported that half the tickets for the Aerosmith concert remained unsold two days before the concert. Except for Justin Bieber, the other shows aren’t selling all that well, either. Even if the show is a sellout there won’t be much money for anyone other than Aerosmith. If the total take were $1.6 million, the band would get more than $1.3 million of it, according to The
  9. the promoter was a state government agency. if my tax $ went to pay for Tyler's drug habits, i'd be pissed off.
  10. for one show? spot on? are you serious? their best days are far behind them.
  11. that caught my eye immediately too. nuts. it's also insane that the fair paid aerosmith a million.
  12. A Meatmen fan also a Goo Goo Doll fan? cats and dogs, living together.
  13. that clip makes GGD seem like a grade C Lemonheads. definitely preferable to what they turned into, but nothing that would warrant further listening on my part.
  14. yeah i am kinda pissed that Jim couldn't get either Neil or Waits for the festival...there is no real headliner for Sunday, which makes the $250 weekend pass a bit of a tougher swallow...i mean, i'm psyched to see Altar played by Boris and Sunn O))) but it's not the kind of Sunday headliner they had for the other years (My Bloody Valentine in '08, Flaming Lips last year).
  15. one other photo from the weekend...the campground i was staying at was east of North Adams, up that steep switch back on rt 2. coming into the town on Friday, the sole hole in the cloud bank had a shaft of bright sun just on the town below. definitely an omen, a good one.
  16. if you are not into electronic music i can see where Aphex Twin would have flown under yr radar. it's quite a video, though. #11 (windowlicker) is another great vid.
  17. Before I clicked the link I was thinking that 'Come To Daddy' should be #1, and it was. what do you know, Pitchfork and I finally agree on something.
  18. I finally (mostly...still have some Vetiver and random festival shots to go through) have finished all the shots from the weekend...if you missed it, here's the review and original photo gallery and for your browsing pleasure, i'll add links to a few of the galleries (all of which can be seen at this page). Click on the photo to get to the gallery. On Fillmore Mavis Staples Wilco Jeff Tweedy
  19. yeah my understanding was that it was a compilation that Wilco made from the Numero Group cds...I picked up a couple (24 Carat Black and The Brotherhood) and they are fun stuff.
  20. I assume Glenn headed home since his wife was due imminently
  21. I totally agree on the beer complaint. Magic Hat should have served more than three beers ESP when two of them were novelty crap. When they ran out blind faith on Saturday night that was a joke. And then on Sunday they were only pouring it at the stand near courtyard C. Not too convenient to the main field.
  22. the record stall was cool too...got a metal LP, some obscure funk LP, and one from Sunburned Hand of the Man. also grabbed a couple of the Numero Group cds, and a SSF t shirt. also, my review and photos are up: http://www.prefixmag.com/photos/solid-sound-festival-a-three-day-festival-of-music/
