  1. wow. yeah, i'd be hard pressed to find a 'close to good' record among his post-1975 work...i was gonna post a list but figured why feed an obvious troll. what makes you think that Neil makes music for his fan base? you are certainly free to dislike it, but projecting motives is a losing strategy.
  2. here's my take...i think the original premise is spot on. if you look at the makeup of the scheduled dates for outdoor sheds and arenas, it's probably 40% 'classic rock' bands, then about 25% pop/hip-hop/country, with 25% being a mix of 'modern' or jam bands, and then 10% 'other.' to even open the doors and turn on the power to one of these venues, you need a fairly considerable amount of revenue to pay the staff and pay the electric bill. so, you can't sell 10,000 tickets at $15 a piece, and expect a successful business model. if a particular band (no matter how good they are) does not have
  3. review + photos: http://www.prefixmag.com/photos/pavement-jenny-and-johnny-agganis-arena-boston-pic/ fucking great show...when Nastanovich is screaming from the edge of the stage during 'Unfair' and your arm is leaping out of its socket in a fist pump motion, you know it's a good show.
  4. thanks ghost! i should have all my shots and review done and up later tonight.
  5. i noticed that too...when he played w/ The Jicks, it was different btw, that was not David Cross, though Kannberg did mention the person by that name. not sure who it was.
  6. you are correct; he's a much better player. i was flattened at the re-arrangement of "Fight This Generation." fantastic show. review to follow.
  7. some favorites of mine The Lost String (a doc about Marc Ribot) Such Hawks, Such Hounds (a doc about stoner metal, featuring Kyuss, Om, Dead Meadow, Wino from St Vitus and others...really quite nice) Watch Me Jumpstart (Guided By Voices - definitive documetary...totally nailed the vibe of the band at this time in their career) Space Is The Place (Sun Ra...'blaxplotation' turned on its head) Jandek On Corwood (this lost some steam after Jandek actually played live, but it's still a riveting watch) Westway To The World (good vid on The Clash) Rock and Roll Circus (not only great footage of The
  8. I always had a soft spot for UO even though they failed to live up to their promise. i caught the show a couple of years, and here's my take: http://www.bigtakeover.com/concerts/urge-overkill-middle-east-cambridge-ma-wednesday-april-30-2008 here's a vid of an unreleased song they played that night:
  9. you should see the campus landscaping...it's like a jungle out there.
  10. i guess the triple bill of Fucked Up/Fuck Buttons/Holy Fuck is off the table...
  11. a lot of it depends on the band...if it's a big show w/ lights and all that crap to work out, it's a fair bet that the set list will not vary much at all from show to show. if the artist is an FM radio warhorse, chances are most fans don't give a shit about whatever they have released over the last 15 years and want to hear the hits. with the advent of setlist.fm or similar sites, it's easy to see how the sets vary night to night, so if you have a tour date that's in the middle to latter of the tour, you can judge to see if it makes sense to see two nights or not. i would be pretty bummed
  12. i'll be @ the previous night's show. should be a lot of fun.
  13. the 3rd installment of All Tomorrow's Parties, held at Kutsher's, concluded with a massive performance of a minimalist composition, the dirge/drone/noise spectacle of Altar that Boris and Sunn O))) created four years ago. Tons of smoke, incredibly loud, and immovable as a auditory monolith.
  14. apparently no metal bands put out recorded songs in that decade either. weird.
  15. i can't believe that they think Kim Deal wrote a better song than Bob Pollard (Cannonball vs Game of Pricks). if you don't want to keep clicking new pages, here's a one-stop shopping experience: http://tacim.blogspot.com/2010/09/pitchfork-top-200-tracks-of-1990s.html too much hip-hop/pop for my tastes...surprisingly riot grrl stuff gets a lot of props too. i can't begin to remember the last time i played that "Her Jazz" record from Huggy Bear. was pretty psyched to this, though...brilliant song from a band w/ a lot of them: 135. Super Furry Animals - Ice Hockey Hair i haven't heard 18
  16. i think they had an inspired choice hiring Peter Kember (aka Sonic Boom) as producer. i like the record quite a bit.
  17. you really can't figure out the difference between state money being spent on a state-sponsored activity, and state workers spending their payroll as they please? the word on the street is that Tyler was highly influenced by this clip
  18. a ) glad to hear i've got yr respect. it's about damned time. b ) winner of the most specious correlation award. try harder next time c ) "I am writing about the Grandstand concerts at this year’s New York State Fair. You reported that half the tickets for the Aerosmith concert remained unsold two days before the concert. Except for Justin Bieber, the other shows aren’t selling all that well, either. Even if the show is a sellout there won’t be much money for anyone other than Aerosmith. If the total take were $1.6 million, the band would get more than $1.3 million of it, according to The
  19. the promoter was a state government agency. if my tax $ went to pay for Tyler's drug habits, i'd be pissed off.
  20. for one show? spot on? are you serious? their best days are far behind them.
  21. that caught my eye immediately too. nuts. it's also insane that the fair paid aerosmith a million.
