  1. yeah, definitely some good ones. i really like the black and white one w/ the girl on the car, but it would make a lousy label...hence, my vote for the hot dog (also an excellent photo, and very evocative of summer).
  2. personally i think YoA is a bit overrated; great title track, epic. but the 1st and 3rd are overall stronger records.
  3. Tickets are purchased. i'm going to the Matador 21st b-day/lost weekend thing too.
  4. I agree that a truly flawless LP is a rare creation, but people see merit in different things, so clearly there is no universal standard upon which to judge. that said, I'd hazard these records as complete statements, truly awesome from start to finish (i'm purposely only mentioning rock LPs, as jazz, opera, classical, etc seem to me to have an easier standard, having less songs). That said, here's a dozen that I could easily spend the rest of my life with. Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand Come - Don't Ask, Don't Tell Robyn Hitchcock - I Often Dream of Trains Boris - Boris At Last: Feedback
  5. we're not gonna spin off into a pedantic discourse on the meaning of 'prolific,' are we?
  6. that's not the place to start...that would be like wondering about the Velvet Underground and listening to _Squeeze_. well, maybe not *that* extreme, but you really can't go wrong w/ stuff from the debut up through at least _Land of the Lost_, and one can make a pretty strong argument that good songs exist on _Follow Blind_ and _The Circle_ (not to mention Sage's two solo records, _Straight Ahead_ and _Sacrifice (For Love)_. the 1st three are the most hallowed, however.
  7. thanks! but it was nothing really special, or elaborately thought out.
  8. i thought of a good idea for a photo on Sunday, two days after the contest closed.
  9. right there is the equal of let it bleed/exile on mainstreet/sticky fingers or face to face/something else/village green or tommy/who's next/quadrophenia
  10. i would hope that GBV would add another Boston date (Paradise capacity ~750) before another Philly date (Troc capacity 1200)...and i can't see them playing another city after NYC. that seems to be the logical end spot, with the possibility of adding a 2nd NYC show a more realistic development than playing another city again.
  11. since Philly is sandwiched in between the Boston and NYC dates, i can't see how they could add another date. i'm pretty surprised that they didn't either book a larger room (Royale or House of Blues) in boston, or two nights @ the Paradise. the tickets were gone fast.
  12. btw, you can see shots of last Friday's gig by clicking on the photo
  13. bonus disc of the kids choir singing the 1st Clash record.
  14. i'll be doing Vegas and Boston, outside chance of NYC.
  15. i am pretty sure that's wrong and that tickets are actually on sale tmrw.
  16. i am certainly no audio engineer, but can remastering really save some records? wouldn't that be down more to the actual recording that was done? maybe i'm totally confused as to what re-mastering actually accomplishes, which is likely. for instance, can the horrid snare drum sound of later Husker Du records be fixed?
  17. I was a Heedfest virgin until recently, and it was a great time. tons of Pollard nerds gathered under one banner, just having a great time and treated to not only Pollard playing his music, but four other bands playing GBV and Circus Devils songs. Matt Davis did a great job organizing it and there were good vibes all around. i don't know how actively the Wilco board gets together, but hopefully a lot of people will meet for the 1st time @ the Solid Sound Festival. Nothing like turning a virtual community into a real one. People from all over the place (including Sweden!) came together for H
  18. we'll just have to agree to disagree. i don't hear anything forced about that track. i wish he'd do an entire record in that style.
  19. I saw Pollard play the new record a couple nights ago. the title track was stunning. just stunning.
  20. oh, one more successful band-owned label:
  21. these worked out pretty well: http://www.discogs.com/label/United+Dairies
  22. i read in the Globe the other day that Leonard Nimoy will be presenting some art for this.
  23. Matt, i would say it's 99% likely that GBV will be playing other shows. for Vegas, a lot of those bands tour a lot, or have recently toured, so the appeal is definitely the 'indie record nerd convention' for me. plus, seeing Come and JSBX will be fucking awesome.
