  1. apparently he is the left wing attack dog. i guess he's not doing such a hot job as I've never heard of him either.
  2. yeah, that's pretty inexcusable.
  3. interesting. i would like to see LP sales figures for indie labels like Matador, Drag City, Relapse, etc.
  4. this was a pretty excellent read. i recommend it: http://www.amazon.com/Celine-Dions-Lets-Talk-About/dp/082642788X
  5. i saw this link posted today: http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/john_roderick_reverb_residency/
  6. possibly Helmet's "Unsung" as well, though that was unusually melodic for that band. I dig playing "Mountain Song" on guitar hero.
  7. Led Zeppelin 2 is playing here next week...i saw the vocalist play w/ his regular band Yakuza last year. might be good for a laugh or two
  8. that's gotta suck when you can't even browse the bins anymore. btw, i think the KT box was 'limited' to 5000 copies...which is a lot. most of the limited stuff i buy is 1000 or less (granted the band's popularity is typically less as well).
  9. it's not hard to guess at some: townshend/daltry roger waters steve howe/chris squire keef/mick
  10. The NY Giants drank the world supply after the Eagles game.
  11. the noise holocaust portion is also more of a social experiment/endurance test than actual music...for those unfamiliar, it's about a 20-25 minute onslaught of pure noise, guitar/bass/drums/effects pedals, coupled w/ blinding strobes etc. absolutely no discernible elements of melody or harmony whatsoever. my wife walked out after about 10 minutes. the promoters were wise enough to hand out free ear plugs prior to their set (and take into consideration that both Mogwai and Dinosaur Jr played before MBV...yeah, that was a loud night):
  12. normally i would tend to agree w/ you, but the sheer volume of the MBV set i saw was strangely affecting in a most physical way, esp during the infamous 'noise holocaust' portion of "You Made Me Realise." it certainly helped that the venue had a great sound system and wasn't just high-end screech and distortion. i must say that i've never felt anything like it, though the Altar set that Sunn O))) and Boris played came close (coincidentally also at the same venue).
  13. MBV is the loudest band I've ever heard, louder than Boris, than Dinosaur Jr, than Sunn O))), than Sleep, than the Melvins, etc...insanely, and dangerously loud. anyone dig the Sweet Apple record? it's pretty decent.
  14. pretty decent interview w/ him: http://www.npr.org/2011/01/05/132628713/marc-ribot-translating-silent-movies-to-music
  15. laying prostrate, in a dazed, near lifeless state?
  16. i suppose that's not a crowded field.
  17. i didn't notice that particular thread was locked, but it did contain a bit of interesting prattle: so Recorded Nap is a woman? or just a poorly named man?
  18. Tarantino really made his music indelibly linked to cutting off ears, didn't he?
  19. Ron House already had a band called Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments. good band, too! some of my favorites Lubricated Goat Agoraphoric Nosebleed Pregnant Babies Pregnant with Pregnant Babies Fat Worm of Error Natural Snow Buildings Blue Sabbath Black Cheer Om Relatively Clean Rivers
  20. was the Soft Pack record this year? that's pretty good. for all the massive love gushed towards the Beach House record, is it that much better than the 1st one or Devotion? i had more time to think about my list, and here's what I came up: 1 sun city girls funeral mariachi 2 marc ribot silent movies 3 jack rose luck in the valley 4 emeralds does it look like i'm here? 5 jim shepard/V-3 next album 6 warpaint the fool 7 dungen skit i allt 8 the fresh and onlys play it strange 9 boston spaceships our cubehouse still rocks 10 robyn hitchcock propellor time 11 tame imp
  21. Trevor Dunn is a pretty kickass contingency plan.
