  1. i dig that Husker cover but wouldn't rank it too highly in the 'incongruous' dept...HD was a pop band underneath the fury of their punk overcoat (they even tipped their hands early via the cover of "sunshine superman"), and they were also MN-based.
  2. i saw a bunch of these The Who w/ Entwistle '82 @ Shea Stadium, '89 in Foxboro Stadium (was it called Schaefer at that point?) Grateful Dead (Boston Garden) Phish at the Paradise, their first club date in Boston Firehose (at the Paradise) Janes Addiction (at the Orpheum) Monks of Doom (at Bunrattys) Pixies (Trompe Le Monde tour) @ the Orpheum
  3. i was gonna go to that too...Mike O'Malley was in town doing some filming for something, and we were gonna go to Toad's that night. he's good friends w/ my wife (college friends) and knows Bill J very well. Mike's work ran over and he called to tell me he wasn't gonna make it, so i ended up bailing as well.
  4. do you think there's been a change in quality? i firmly believe that every era has had great and terrible music. the downside to the rest of your post is that it could make seeing small bands who have day jobs play live, unless you live near where they live. not being able to see bands from New Zealand, England, Sweden, Japan (not to mention the West Coast), etc would be a pretty big void for me.
  5. unfortunately i haven't been on the downhill bike the last two summers, but here's a shot a few years ago of me @ Diablo. fun mountain!
  6. maybe you missed my edit, but i think it's only you (and possibly Froggie) having the communication breakdown...everyone else got the gist of the thread. Froggie, repent now! back on track...i wish i'd seen Sun Ra play. was gonna roadtrip to NYC for the free show the Arkestra played w/ Sonic Youth in the early 90s, but didn't. i also blew off at least one (and likely more) local shows, as i know he played Nightstage at some point. I have seen Marshall Allen play, but i think that's it of the original core members of the band.
  7. no need to get all defensive about it...but really, how could you have seen the Beatles? and judging from the three posts in the thread before yours, the intent of the question was, imo, pretty clearly understood by most.
  8. i don't think it's nitpicking, and i had the same reaction...bands that you could have seen, but didn't for whatever reason. yeah i would have loved to have seen Barrett-era Floyd @ the UFO room but i was 1 year old and in a different continent... this thread, at least to me, is more about missed chances that were fully in grasp.
  9. i think Radiohead should have named their LP The King of Leons.
  10. You had a chance to see The Beatles? wasn't their final show in the US in '65 or so? i wish i had seen The Chameleons when they reformed in '01 or so...still not sure why i didn't go, other than our first kid was keeping us homebound quite a bit. i had plenty of chances to see Silkworm and never did. i also blew off seeing Husker Du play @ my school in '86. saw 'em on the last tour, but it wasn't the same i'm sure. i could have seen a lot of bands that i later came to know and appreciate, too late...Wipers and Savage Republic would fall into this bucket. Black Flag, too.
  11. Romania? Indonesia? Nigeria? i really don't know the criteria.
  12. moving to a 2nd or 3rd world country will cure that quickly.
  13. so the $10 purchases are mp3s and not physical product?
  14. excellent: http://www.prefixmag.com/news/arcade-fire-respond-to-who-is-arcade-fire-meme/49491/
  15. i think any song by Anal Cunt should count as a questionable song.
