  1. yeah, i forgot about Mark Sandman (saw him in Candybar, a pre-Morphine band), Strummer and Chilton. Also forgot that Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson both played in the Rossington-Collins band. oh, and Frank Zappa.
  2. well, i guess this could be a bit of a morbid spin on the other thread...anyways, here's who I remember off the top of my head (and the band I saw 'em play with): John Fahey Jack Rose John Entwhistle Huey Thomasson (Outlaws) Albert Collins (Rossington-Collins band) Chris Acland (Lush) Jim Shepard (V-3) Gary Shider (P-Funk) Ben Keith (Neil Young) Lady Jaye (Psychic TV3) Peter Christopherson (Threshold Houseboys Choir; Throbbing Gristle) Grant McClellan (Go-Betweens) RJ Dio (Heaven and Hell) Karl Mueller (Soul Asylum) Malachi Favors (AEOC) Vic Chesnutt Pete de Freitas (Echo/Bunnymen) Mary Hans
  3. much to my disappointment. if i could have hand-picked five Matador bands to have played, it would have looked like: GBV TFUL282 Come Bailter Space Barbara Manning not to say I didn't have a great time, but it could have been greater.
  4. oh man, TFUL282 is one of my all-time favorites.,,saw them 5 or 6 times and am considering somehow getting over to the ATP in England where they are reforming for a show.
  5. i wonder what Rey Washam is up to. i've seen Shellac a few times now, but missed out prior.
  6. I saw one of the last Om shows w/ Chris on drums. also happy to have caught a very rare live show of Crystalized Movements back in the early 90s.
  7. that's the 1st camera i got. if it's got fairly low shutter actuations, i would think it's worth $150-200 or so. it's a good starter camera but i wouldn't pay more since it's 3-4 generations old now.
  8. If you don't think you'll need video capability, and don't mind taking on a slight risk of buying used (and i've bought used lenses and a used body), then you could look at something like this: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1008090&highlight=40D
  9. my first camera was a rebel XT, about 2-3 generations removed. that took good photos, but i wanted a bit more flexibility so i upgraded. bodies can come and go, spend decent $ on good lenses and they will last. check out dpreview.com or fredmiranda.com for reviews, or google POTN (it's a Canon user site) and dig around in there.
  10. now i know you are just randomly grabbing Youtube links...this song sucked back in the day and it still sucks.
  11. how is Soundtrack of our Lives not massively popular? the sound on this is a bit dodgy, but bear with it. beautiful song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaXmaxzs3Ls
  12. the G series are a nice compromise, but are limited in the fact that you can't change lenses, and thus lose the flexibility of a DSLR. of course, your budget doesn't really include enough to consider extra lenses, but if that's of interest down the road you want to think about it.
  13. put me down for a 'yes' vote re: a Byron Coley reading.
  14. this is a pretty far-ranging topic, and i've got a bunch of unorganized thoughts about it. so i guess i'll just dive right in. 1 - the point about the municipality funding the organization is a good one. companies can go bankrupt and invoke layoffs or even full closures. this isn't quite the case w/ public sector, and i believe there's a legitimate concern about who is managing costs. the ever-burgeoning health care costs are now of even greater concern to a city or state budget...this was an obvious problem ~5 years ago and it's gotten worse. 2 - the basic idea of a union seems naff
  15. i was really hoping that a Loose Fur performance would happen. Looks like it's not to be.
  16. that lineup looks good. really good.
  17. they do list 'plus more' i would think that Helm is support to one night of Wilco, but there doesn't seem to be another band large enough to claim the other spot yet...so maybe SY will be added later?
  18. another thumbs up for Sublime Frequencies. Alan and Hisham do a great job. Add Mississippi Records to the list too.
  19. i only saw the Femmes once (sometime in college, maybe '87?) and it was a very good show. first time i'd ever seen a band line up straight across the stage w/ Victor in the middle.
  20. definitely. some of my favorites: Shadoks Sundazed Dust-to-Digital Legacy Revenant (while it lasted) even Drag City to a degree...they unearth some gems here and there.
  21. i was happy to see the 2nd to last show that Dio did w/ Heaven and Hell. rock on, Ronnie
