  1. that's not fun - i'd actually say it's the musical equivalent of "hard work". only season of the witch is any good, and i'd still rather listen to the original. thankfully it's nothing like his own music.
  2. yes - that's the place to start. great album. although it might be hard to find or pricey. "i stand alone" is pretty great too. personally i think "super session" is rubbish, but lots of people like that as well.
  3. i don't like it, no. you are correct - there are harmonies, but i certainly wouldn't call them great. by that, i don't mean they are out of tune, they are just boring - it's the vocal equivalent of someone playing a guitar riff and then someone else playing the exact same riff an octave higher, then the bass player plays the same riff too - it's just dull. or, a better way of looking at it is that it's not adding anything to the arrangement other than depth and volume. i don't necessarily say this is something that jeff needs to work out, as the lyricist - really it should be the other band
  4. shitty knickers! i forgot about califone! (not the other 2 though, well definately not the white stripes - they're another example of starting the decade well and then ruining what they had going for them with bad music and even worse personal choices)
  5. animal collective: albums: spirit they're gone, spirt they've vanished/danse manatee (which i don't like)/here comes the indian/sung tongs/feels/strawberry jam/merriweather post pavilion eps: prospect hummer/people/water curses & fall be kind (no doubt, when it's out in a month) plus person pitch by panda bear, obviously! super furry animals/gryff rhys: band: mwng/rings around the world/phantom power/love kraft/hey venus! & dark days/light years is ok, but not up there with the others gruff: yr atal genhedlaeth/candylion/stainless syle (as neon neon) joanna newsom: the
  6. oh, ok - if i have to it's gonna take me a while to work that all out. can you post videos? i like to give people the option of watching something good, even if the music is turgid.
  7. i'm going to put all my stuff in this thread here: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/41746-new-cover-versions-thread/page__p__1369856entry1369856 only got me doing a cover version at the moment, but i'll add some original songs when i get the time to put some stupid videos to them. sorry about the poor sound quality, i sound much better in person! lol
  8. actually, changed my mind - i want to send Essox500 with a mint orginal vinyl pressing of Dark Side Of The Moon as his weapon. so he can slay you all with its brilliance!
  9. has beat takeshi ever posted on here? i'd like to send him with the rest of you who sign up!
  10. you know what i'd like to see wilco do? (and i hope jeff reads this, cos he read me having a go at the production of the last album); i'd like to see them making an album which puts some effort into vocal harmonies. i've said this for ages. how in the hell can you make good pop songs without having good vocal harmonies?! nearly everyone in the band can sing - use them! it can be country, folk, rock, whatever style - just get some interest going on the vocal side - the lyrics are always good, but if you're going to do straight forward songs (like the last 2 albums) it would help if they put som
  11. that's just obvious. i think this is because the cameramen are old bbc tech men in white jackets - so there is no spastic-zoom-edit-zoom imagery; and also all the bands had to play on really really low volumes (like 1 on the amp kind of low) - cos the sound engineers couldn't cope with anything louder - thus the effect was really focused quality music.
  12. of course they are! so is jimmy cliff, the upsetters, junior murvin, the congos, lee perry, desmond dekker & the aces - and a few more i've forgotten about. they did, however, do one of my favourite ever sessions on the old grey whistle test - so, that's one thing.
  13. if you use firefox, just download the add-on "download helper" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 then you can download the file and listen at your leisure! what exactly is the point of getting all these musicians in, when, so far, everything in the project has the same sound and vibe? "cheer up beck, it might never 'appen!"
  14. pants double as rain catchers vol. 1 - by ray mears eat shit and don't die! - by bear grylls shake your coconuts (go nuts!) - by greg davenport shelter from the storm (in an improvised bivouac) - by brian brawdy never done islands, i climb mountains - by brian blessed
  15. not too sure i like this much. it's definately not anywhere near as good as the album. i was expecting them to go a bit more weird with it, i guess.
  16. well, that does sound very good then. i'm excited now!
  17. yeah, but that was normal in those days. if you left it 3 years between albums people would have thought you'd died and the record company would have released a bunch of outtakes to keep the money flowing. as for the new album. i hope it's nothing like any of their other albums. i just want them to try something different. now, when jeff tweedy hears the word "different" (based on what i've read in interviews) he seems to think people mean avant garde. maybe some do, but i don't. i suggest he sits down and catalogues all the styles of music he hears in their songs, so far recorded, and then
  18. i don't like the cover much - not that it's terrible - they just look a bit annoyingly druidic. the last album was brilliant, though, so i've got high hopes for this one!
  19. can we try and get a group together in the uk. i really want to meet jeff!
  20. do you think this song is fair to middling? if so, then - yes; yes it is.
  21. how can you call lou christie annoying! that voice! did your dad ever play, or have you ever heard this?: it was a lost baroque pop classic up until about a year ago, when it got rereleased. definately worth checking out if you're into that kind of thing (which i am, in a big way). plus, this alone makes him a legend:
