  1. As long as she doesn't make eye to eye contact - unless initiated by him - and, quite obviously, only speaks when spoken to.
  2. I've got a feeling he's not going to find a date, but good luck to him. I especially like the fact that he wants her to pay for dinner!
  3. She gets my vote simply because she can play the guitar like a man (that's not being sexist, it's just that most women play guitar like women), and I kind of prefer male guitarists. Plus she can sing a fair bit too. This clip on youtube has an amazing solo on it: up above my head
  4. OK, here you go. Sorry it's only 10 songs. It's kind of psych/folk music and not really that obscure at all, but I can certainly hear lots of Wilco's new album in the music (if not the melodies). Mix Link Tracks: 01 Jimmie Spheeris - For Roach 02 Mountain Bus - Sing A New Song 03 31st of February - Pick a Gripe 04 Patto - Time To Die 05 Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance - Anymore For Anymore 06 The Incredible String Band - No Sleep Blues 07 Emitt Rhodes - Mother Earth 08 Brinsley Schwarz - Merry Go Round 09 Nicky Hopkins - Shout It Out 10 The Strawbs - A Glimpse Of Heaven Sorry if it's not w
  5. That sounds like it's no help at all. Never heard of the New Tweedy Brothers. I'll put something together in a bit, give me an hour or so. By the way, the rest of Nick Garrie's album is less orchestrated than that - so I'll put another of his in the mix when I'm doing it.
  6. I know quite a few bands/artists like this. For starters try out Nick Garrie. Here is an mp3 of the first track on his only proper album (at least I think it's his only album - it only got released in France for some reason, when it first came out, too): The Nightmare Of J. B. Stanislas If anyone enjoys that, I've got quite a few recommendations, but don't wanna spend time uploading etc... if people aren't too interested.
  7. I heard that most of his family weren't as upset about the stabbing as they were about the piracy issue - nobody likes a pirate. Oh, unless of course it was the pirate that did the stabbing. But, then I'm not privy to all the in's and out's of the White Household. Why do your friends buy albums at all then? They're all available for free online. Or are we talking about them putting down deposits on music as yet unrecorded? That sounds like the opening line to a Frank Capra movie. I'd go see that at the cinema!
  8. If Solomon Burke had taken the fucking song like he was supposed to, non of this sorry mess would have ever happened! P.S I drive a VW - it is over 20 years old, and is a Golf. The back side window is currently taped up with bubble wrap because some joy riders broke in and planned to hot wire it. I say planned, because they got in; pulled the front panel off; but couldn't get any further. The trouble is that I have a hard enough time starting the bastard myself with keys! I'd like to have seen how long they sat there trying to get the thing going. I think that this would have made a great co
  9. If you wish to take the case that streaming the album did effect sales, then you can only conclude that it was in a positive way (seeing as how it went into the charts at no. 4 or something in the USA - I think, I am sure someone posted that fact in another thread once). If 10,000 people hear a leaked album and 8,000 people don't buy it, that is still better than if only 1,000 people buy the album because they are loyal fans. Obviously, the first case means you've got 8,000 criminals - but, anyone just interested in the best way to make money shouldn't go worrying about the rights and wrongs o
  10. I think that Jack White has just been subjected to an old fashioned - "see if your songs can stand up to shitty sound quality test" - which all his old blues heroes unwittingly took and came through with flying colours. If he feels that his songs can't stand up to the test, then maybe he needs to have a think about where he is going wrong. If that's not the case, then I don't see what he's getting so hot under the collar about. I thought Jack White was a gentleman-dandy, anyway. Do gentlemen shout down the phone at women? I wonder what Meg thinks about the leak?
  11. One of my friends keeps pestering me to upload enough onto oink for me to get him an invite, and I never seem to get around to it. So if anyone has a spare invite and doesn't mind me passing it on to him, I would be very very greatful to whom so ever that may be. By the way, I trust him (whether that means anything or not to you) to stick to all those oinky rules - so don't worry about all that, with regard to him.
  12. I used to like these sorts of films when they weren't ruined by computer animation and kung-fu camera work. Both the stories look good, but the way they are made puts me off something rotten. I also think that when you cast a child in a lead role (as with The Golden Compass) you need to be a lot looser with the way it's filmed, because otherwise they don't get a chance to appear as anything other than wooden. Oh, and I think Ricky Gervais needs to start learning that to be an actor you actually have to act at least a little.
  13. I quite liked that. I haven't liked anything he has done in a long while, so I am surprised I thought it was good.
  14. They were in a state of shock! BOOM BOOM!
  15. It was wishful thinking. So seeing as how none of you got it. I'll ask again: How many fingers are Wilco holding up?
  16. I'm not talking about the demos. God!
  17. One of those letters is in the title . . . That's the final clue!
  18. That was the one I was thinking of second. So you were close.
  19. Edit: Sorry forgot to answer your question Jeff, John, Ken & Max right? What Wilco song am I thinking of right now?
  20. I heard they were calling it Rambo Mambo No. 5
  21. Actually the album The American Dream is available to buy, which is very good (maybe not quite as good as his self-titled, but good none-the-less). Now, you can either buy this as a single disc, or I'd actually recommend people buying listen listen by the merry-go-round which also contains the album, but with a whole bunch of other tracks from Rhodes's first band the merry-go-round.
  22. nothing to do with what you said, but more to do with your avatar. it made me think about this: actually; really, i was thinking of the sketch where mark heap plays ming the merciless at home relaxing watching telly tubbies, but i can only find a picture, not a clip.
  23. I've pretty much given up on Jools Holland after he gave Travis & Beverly Knight 3 songs the other week, & Candie Payne 2 songs, but only gave Joanna Newsom 1 (and it was an old song too, cos, i assume, the new ones are too long). Candie Payne being completely unknown, and both Travis & Beverly Knight being the musical equivalents of a fart joke - says all there is to say about the show. I think that the shit atmosphere of it all will mean that Wilco won't be that entertaining, but then you never know...
