  1. Pookie: I was handed a 1968 copy of L.N.'s "Eli and the Thirteenth Confession" on this past Friday apon arrival at my local record shop, and told by it's proprietor to "buy this"; ( a "fifty-ish" lady who's opinion I've come to value). $6 bucks. Still has the "perfumed" lyric sheet with it (fragrance is long gone). So...that's what all that business was about last week with "Let's go down by the grapevine, drink my Daddy's wine" over in "Umm"-ville. Fun music. Great Album. And for the record, this is not something I would normally gravitate towards musically either. Anyway...tks for

  3. Yeah. Those boys; (and I mean that in the most endearing way, from one southerner to another ) are a great band. He's allowing the songs to breathe and evolve a little. Jason has great chops, an excellent guitarist. I really see where he's dialing back the emphasis on his ability to play and allow the essence of the songs themselves to stand front and center. 4. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit the Satellite Ballroom Charlottesville VA. 2/23/08 In the darkened moments on stage between the sets of Will Hoge's group and that of the '400 Unit' Jason Isbell mounts the stage along with crewmen to set up for his performance. In the five times I've seen an Isbell performance thi
  5. As a guy who's tastes usually lean towards "dark and sober" I'm digging this. But I'm obviously nuts in the respect that I don't care about all the superfilous stuff surrounding them (influences, hype, attire etc.) It's not great but it is nice.
  6. I'll see the Constantines and BSP within about 10 days of each other. Damn it'll be a great year for live music.
  7. Ready to say it now: This is a fucking great record.
  8. Peel: I just saw Isbell back in October and was considering passing this weekends show up;(impending nasty weather coming our way and all....). Guess now I'll have to slide into town. You've got my interests piqued again w/ Bryson . Nice Job.
  9. For those in and around central Virginia, FYI: Just checked the list at the top-o-this thread. There's a date missing. C,ville VA. Satellite Ballroom: This Saturday 2/23 JASON ISBELL & THE 400 UNIT / WILL HOGE with Special Guest, Dawn Landes Doors at 8 / $12/$14 door.
  10. She & Him is nice. It makes me pine for the new solo release from Matt and subsequent tour tho... NP:
  11. "You see Basia, there's this lady named Tu**** who kept posting posting a .jpeg image of your album cover in a message board I frequent and well, I became intrigued. So basically that's how I discovered your music". I imagine it'll go down something to that effect. Creepy? Nah. Obligatory "record-geek"? Yep.
