  1. RE: The Grail. It's what I'm using too. There are moments when I can discern that underlying hiss that just drives me batty. Usually when the gain is rolled off and the volume is up pretty high. Macht 12X: http://www.savageamps.com/index.cfm?id=7&s=1 And 05 GuitarPlayer Mag review (Model reviewed lacks the attenuator option) Mine has the standard blue 12" Mojotone BV-30V. Running Electro Harmonix EH 6V6GT tubes. "Dreamcicle" orange tolex, w/white control panel and orange chickenhead knobs. And as a disclaimer If I had to choose between the AST and the Macht 12X I'd pick the Swart al
  2. Skip this. Nothing special here.
  3. I think Mr. Miller (above) has pretty much covered all the alternatives in addressing the problem with regards to your Bassman. I was pretty much in the same boat a few years back when I opted to ditch a Twin I was using and go w/ smaller lower output amps. Here's something I think you should consider: If your not playing out, and I don't either really, do you really want a big amp around the house? Having small amps has been very convenient for me in that, A.) They take up very little floor space B.) look nice in my home C.) Break up at reasonably low volume levels with an undoubtedly sweet
  4. Not one to usually go "Ga-Ga" over gear I have to say the thing is amazing. It is probably the best overall amp available on the market that would suit my needs. Seriously considering selling my current gear to get one of these. Having played one I feel confident in saying that it would probably be the last amp I'd ever need.
  5. I don't own any of the models you've mentioned here but I do have a Swart Space Tone 6V6 and a Savage Macht 12X ,both of which would be considered boutique amps. For me, they're worth it in that they nail particular tones I was going for when I was shopping for amps. I think that's what it all boils down to really. Chasing a sound. Amplifiers are just as much musical instruments in their own right as the guitar itself. There's not a heck of a lot of difference in dropping significant coinage on an amplifier as opposed to a fine guitar. So in that regard it's justifiable. That said I recen
  6. These are all fairly new/ recent models. All are semi hollow bodied instruments. The Taylors are hybrids designed to give players a wide pallet of sounds with an emphasis on traditional acoustic overtones that can be easily amplified, recorded and manipulated;(Read:signal processors, effects, etc.). They are well crafted, as are most products by Taylor. Versatile and somewhat unique in that they offer you voicing that is appropriate for many styles of playing. But as with all hybrids there are compromises. Some, myself included, prefer an actual acoustic guitar over a narrow chambered instru
  7. An SJ-300 is a acoustic guitar. It may or may not have some type of on board pickup (transducer etc. I'm to lazy to look it up), however it can't be qualified as an electric as it's primary design, like the L-00 mentioned earlier is directed towards producing sound sans amplification. It's an acoustic with a pick-up. Maybe. This has been true at various times over the years. A guitar is a very personal thing for the guitarist. Make damn sure it's and instrument your sibling will want before you drop thousands of $$s on one. EDIT: But it's an awfully generous thing your considering
  8. Firstly: DVR'd a bunch of these episodes New Years Eve and viewed a few yesterday. This is sketch comedy at it's finest. Can't recall the last time I saw something off broadcast television that made me laugh so much. Secondly: Loved it. Adored it really. Very little dialog, lots of physical humor. A little melancholy, a little fanciful and overall joyful. A neat little flick that is very reminiscent of a silent film.
  9. What the lady says... It took me thirty minutes once.... Keep plugging.
  10. Pagey is looking the rather distiguished gent. these days. What's here got there I wonder...looks like a Gretsch.
  11. My dear elderly parents were originally going to get a simple DVD player from yrs trly since they continue to eschew purchases of such modern contraptions. However, it has been decided amongst us kids that they will be receiving a small LCD television, because... *The old Trinitron they use most has begun to lean towards the "orange-er" hues of the color spectrum * My sweet mothers make-up has begun to follow this trend also (Verified by my sisters) Sometimes you gotta make with the "sneaky" for the ones you love.
