  1. Great, just because of that they'll give it an even lower rating. Same thing happened to Mogwai last year.
  2. Yeah, it saves the second half of SBS imo. I'll fight is like a bad version of on and on and on, completely lacks the emotion of the latter. Not a highlight at all.
  3. Indeed, I'll Fight still sounds like a lazy rehash of on and on and on though. Along with You & I the only song that hasn't grown on me.
  4. No love's as random as God's Love... RIP
  5. AM: Casino Queen BT 1: Outtasite (Outta Mind) BT 2: Sunken Treasure ST: ELT YHF: Poor Places AGiB: Muzzle of Bees SBS: On & On & On WTA: Bull Black Nova MMA1: Hesitating Beauty MMA2: Airline to Heaven
  6. Not for the Season Airline to Heaven Hummingbird (the Wilco book version) --> is this a legitimate entry?
  7. Hmm, I'd rather call the sequencing a negative. They've placed the 3 mellowest songs on this album on 4 spots, so by the time you reach solitaire you're really hoping for something to pick up the pace. Which is kinda too bad since Solitaire is actually the stand-out ballad here.
  8. Ya, me too. I actually refrained from using it in my list because I was afraid people would laugh at me.
  9. No, I never said this was an epic failure of dad rocking-proportions or anything. I just think this record isn't exactly whitout some flaws, whereas this review only seems to take time to zoom in on the good things. Maybe you need to calm down. There's nothing wrong with some constructive criticism.
  10. Well, if a band really wants to appeal to a wider audience they need a memorable single to carry the record. Out of time had Losing my religion, W(TA) has... You Never Know. Hmm. Also, this review is cleary well-written but it's a bit too much on the positive side to be called 'balanced'. Obviously written by a fan.
  11. Secretly we all want Wilco to be the next Sonic Youth.
  12. The pragmatic approach: since Wilco is just Tweedy (& to a lesser extend Stiratt) with a rotating cast, is it possible for this 'band' to end before Tweedy eh... dies or something?
  13. I kinda agree with point 1 & 3 but lets face it: You & I really is the definition of blandness. Seriously, there's no reason to like this song other than the 'zomg, Feist is on it!'-thingie.
  14. The problem is, while some songs are growing on me (the expected ballads 'country disappeared' & Solitaire) there are others I'm actually liking less with each listen. There really seems to be a lack of depth in the second half of the album with You Never Know, I'll Fight & Sonny feeling just being by the numbers ST-SBS hybrids. Meanwhile, You & I still leaves me completely unmoved. Really digging songs 2-3-4 on this album, but 5 good songs in total is a bit sub-par for a band like Wilco.
  15. Not that good actually, I'm sick of it already.
  16. I think it's supposed to do that.
  17. Great music to wash the dishes to.
  18. That's too bad since it's actually the best song on the album. Well, either this or BBN anyway.
  19. Oh my God, is there nothing original about this album??
  20. 1) Poor Places 2) Muzzle of Bees 3) On and On and On
  21. But the lyrics on Country Dissapeared deserved a better melody. It's not as bad as You & I but apart from that one it's probably my least favorite song on this album. Solitaire is quite beautiful though, kinda reminds me of the pre-Pink Moon Nick Drake.
  22. That's an odd comment, CD is actually the most 'Dad Rock' song on the album. I wonder how much Pitchfork will rate this, 3.2 or something? I mean, even on their fan board this album gets panned.
  23. Wth, this is actually the one song that's really fleshed out on this record.
  24. I happen to believe that's more or less a fact.
