  1. From everything i've read, this has long been Tweedy's mic of choice. You can see him singing into it multiple times in I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, and i remember reading an interview with their engineer from Wilco (The Album) that talked about gear, specifically noting how Jeff really likes to do vocals on the SM7. It's probably a more ideal mic especially for these more "live" recordings, has better sound rejection since the vocal takes are with the rest of the band in the same room.
  2. Thanks for the report bbop. The white Epiphone Jeff plays is a Wilshire, pretty cool that he got an orange one. I assume it looked something like this?
  3. Was casually browsing through gearslutz as i always do, when i came across a thread discussing the sound of A ghost is Born. A couple of posts in, Chris Shaw (AGIB Engineer) posts a boat load of info and pictures about the actual process of recording which i thought was really cool, not sure if anybody else on here ever stumbled into it. Chris' first post is #16, and then he posts pictures in #27 of their recording setup. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/87450-wilco-sound.html
  4. I saw three shows this leg of the tour, and was surprised to not see it even once. However, they played it all three of the shows i saw in 2011, but still love seeing it. It might not be the best wilco song live, but it's certainly one of the best songs Tweedy's written in the last 10 years.
  5. Also for reference, here's a great pic i found of it on the mastery bridge website. There's a couple more good ones of this guitar up there, as well as some of nels' guitars and other great guitars as well
  6. Not sure if anybody has a good answer for this, but i love Jeff's telecaster with the bigsby he uses on Kingpin mostly, love the tone of it. I can tell there's some sort of Charlie Christian pickup on the neck (probably Lollar), but does anybody know what kind of pickup he is using at the bridge? I'm building a tele and the tone of that guitar is pretty reminiscent of the sound i'm going for
  7. Ashes of American maybe, not sure wether $6.63 counts as an odd number. I guess 63 cents counts.
  8. The noisey section is definitely on Kicking Television, not sure about shows before that though
  9. I remember downloading a version of this show that had deli tray footage, i'll see if i can upload it sometime this week. If i remember, it was during We've Been Had (i think).
  10. I disagree, the solo at the first night in prospect park was the best one i've heard in the roughly 15 shows i've been to. I was actually a little shocked, because i was starting to think this as well, but i think it still sounds fresh. Also, the solo IS that Impossible Germany. They'd be better off dropping it entirely than rearranging it.
  11. Great show and great beer! Was cool to hear sunken treasure again, as well as either way and what's the world got in store. Jeff claimed it to be the best crowd of the tour. Should be noted there was a plentiful taper section, including nyctaper, so there should be at least one solid source for this show
  12. It was the album arrangement, same as the one seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fM4_1lc8us
  13. Nah, it was different from the Norton Wisdom guitar. Brown Firebird (non-reverse maybe?), you can sort of see it in this cell phone video somebody posted of I Must Be High, it's on youtube, just search must be high prospect park EDIT: Looks like it could be the same model as this one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Used-USED-2006-GIBSON-CST-SHOP-NON-REVERSE-FIREBIRD-VINTAGE-SUNBURST-WC-107966886-i2627231.gc?&source=4WWRWXGP&cagpspn=pla&=
  14. I knew i would regret missing any of these shows. Went to the first two nights in prospect park, figured i didn't need a third straight night of wilco. Boy how wrong was i? Always wanted to see The Lonely 1, will have to hold out for Cooperstown. On another note, what a spectacular Three night run this was! Shame it has to end, would have loved to see what they'd do to the setlist with a 4th show. Maybe we'll have an incredible shrinking tour of NYC at some point?
  15. Guitar Notes: I noticed Jeff was playing a (seemingly) really small Rickenbacker with 3 pickups for I Must Be High that i had never seen him play before (might have been a ric 370). He seems to be liking those, Jeff's using rickenbackers for more and more songs recently. Nels also was using a Gibson Firebird for a few songs, which I had never seen him use before. And for the second encore, it looks like they had Nels 12 string and Jeff's acoustic set up before switching them out for the guitars they used for Kingpin. As Jeff said "We're only playing this one 'cas it rhymes". Definitely seeme
  16. Livin in Brooklyn! Kingpin was fantastic! Say You Miss Me was also a great treat. Those two were easily the highlights of this show. Nice to see a show where they left out most of the "hits" (IATTBYH, Jesus, Handshake Drugs, Heavy Metal Drummer), and still no W(TA) is fine by me. Jeff noted that it still smelled like bacon. Also of note, both nights, there were people running back and forth in the photographer area b/w the stage and the crowd, bringing food to the VIP area on stage left, and Jeff noted that it "was like the Ho Chi Min trail... man i'm hungry". He looked like he was having a re
  17. The lines were pretty long gettin in, but it moved really quickly and only took about 5 minutes (I got there during lee fields, around 7:20). The sound was pretty damn good near thr front, not ear blasting loud which is always great. Can't vouch for how it sounded farther back.
  18. What a great show! Second Encore was just on fire all the way through, the rain (and occasional lightning) really helped i think. Sunken Treasure was a real treat, it's incredible that this was my 14th Wilco show, and still everytime they find a way to play a song i've never heard before! And Impossible Germany was the best rendition i can remember. It was just grooving really hard, and Nels' solo was in top form, i literally don't think i've seen them do that song better than they did tonight. Notable Banter: Jeff noted that this show smelled more like bacon than any show they'd play before
  19. My sister won tickets to see fallon, and by pure luck it happened to be for this day. She invited me and i'm real bummed i can't go, especially because Zach Galifinakis is one of the guests. But i'm seeing Wilco 3 times that week, and i'm pretty certain they won't play anything i'm not going to hear at any of the shows.
  20. According to the Scents & Subtle Sounds twitter, it was the acoustic rendition of spiders once again, not the electric (album) arrangement. Setlist looks good though
  21. Clearly you never saw the Decemberists "Lottery" show at T5 a few years back. I'm just saying it's way more intimate than seeing them at Prospect Park, or Hammerstein or something. It's no Bowery Ballroom though, and definitely won't be as great as Warsaw. Would have been real great to see them do something maybe a little smaller, like Webster Hall, Beacon Theatre, or United Palace, but i think that Terminal 5 will at least be an energetic show, i think that's where they'll bust out some real deep cuts.
  22. I would love to see them play with Sharon Van Etten, she looks like she'll be available during that time, and she recently did the Big Star tribute thing with with Wilco over in Europe (forget which festival). War on Drugs bore me a bit, saw them open for Sharon a few years ago, and thought they were pretty mediocre.
  23. You ask and you shall receive
  24. T5 should at the very least be one of the more intimate shows Wilco has done in NYC in a while (probably since they played at Warsaw in BK 5 years ago). But i still don't like the place that much, sound is muddy, and the venue is hard to get to and out of the way. It'll be interesting for sure.
