  1. That's too bad. Hartford was packed. Probably a much smaller room, though. I know what you mean about Phox's stage banter, etc. But remember - they are very young. The music's great, and the rest will come in time.
  2. Definitely. Her voice is amazing. Great control, too. Hard not to like that band.
  3. Yeah, it was a late night for sure. Got to bed around 3am, which wouldn't have been so bad if my kids didn 't wake me up at 6am. Worth it for such an excellent show, though.
  4. Blitzen Trapper were fantastic. Also, I'd advise anyone attending the Boston show tonight to arrive early enough to see the opening band - Phox. They're really good.
  5. Ryan Adams is a whiny douche, but if he's talking about the state of contemporary country music then I fully agree. It's all shallow, pointless crap - basically the equivalent of late 80's poodle perm hair metal, but with cowboy hats.
  6. Any Nu Metal (Staind, Godsmack, Linkin Park, etc). Also modern top 40 auto tune stuff. But thanks to my iPod, I never have to listen to the radio any more. So no one needs to die.
  7. I think any "hatred" I have toward them is due to them being chronically overplayed on the radio. Not their fault, though. Also, I kinda hold them responsible for ushering in the age of outrageously expensive concert tickets. As to Zappa, man, I've tried. My best friend and long-time drummer is a Zappa nut, and has been playing me stuff for years. A lot of the the music is good, but I hate the silly voices, etc. I love comedy and music, but only separately. Again, top notch playing, though.
  8. I'm a guitar guy too, and I actually enjoy a lot of their guitar work. I just could never get into their songs. I have the same issue with Skynyrd, Steely Dan and Zappa. Great musicians all, but the music's not for me. I'm glad you guys (most of you, anyway) took this in the spirit in which it was intended. Just a bit of fun.
  9. why, has stabbing Eagles fans become a "thing" 'round your way?
  10. Yes it is! I've been listening to it a lot this past week. I also recommend: Gregory Alan Isakov - Weatherman Milk Carton Kids - The Ash & Clay Marty Marquis (of Blitzen Trapper) - Coronal Mass Vernacular Speaking of Blitzen Trapper, their new one will be out in a couple of weeks. I expect that one to make my list.
  11. I'm not saying what she did is right - just that I understand... http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/17/us/eagles-fan-stabbed/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
  12. Sorry, for some reason I thought you were going to the L.A. shows. I was confusing your post with others. I'm still jealous, though
  13. I hope you're right, but I suspect he'll be spending the winter working on the next album. A solo Roadcase show would be great. Odd that we haven't seen one yet, actually. Those Largo shows are making me insanely jealous. Such a small room! Should be incredible for those lucky enough to attend (looking at you, Wilco Me).
  14. Son of a bitch. I was really hoping for some North East dates...
  15. Mark Mulcahy and Death in New London, CT!
  16. They were opening for a band called Elliott when I saw them. Wierd venue - some student union/common area at UConn. Heard about it at the last minute, grabbed a friend & drove up. I really like The Falcon Lake Incident album the did with Bryson a few years back. John's latest solo album is good too, but I'm eagerly awaiting a new Weakerthans record.
  17. As a father, I can barely conceive what you must be going through right now. My most sincere condolences and best wishes to you & your family.
  18. That's cool. I've only seen them once, around 2001. I'd never heard of them. They were opening for another band & totally blew me away. I bought their first 2 albums at the merch stand that night and have loved them ever since. They never seem to tour the US though, unfortunately.
  19. Did any of you guys catch The Weakerthans set? One of my favorite bands. Great lyrics. Really wish I could've been at that show...
  20. I see it as a rare perk of aging that unless I'm told, I don't even know they're happening.
  21. Wow. This looks fantastic. Live at The Academy of Music 1971. 4 CD/DVD box set. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DJYKFXG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1377426498&sr=8-2&pi=SL75
  22. Burns like hellfire, but streaking is noticeably reduced. Thanks! I roll like a fifth dentist.
  23. I found a copy in a used book store last weekend. Seven dollars! Enjoying it very much. Thanks for the tip!
