So happy to see this news! Funny that many times over the last several weeks I've wished that Wilco would set up a live download site, and here it is. I come from the GD, Phish, Allmans, Mule, etc world, where this has been going on for sometime. A really crisp audience is always nice, and can be preferable to a sterile sounding board, but I love that they did this. I'm buying, today.

Hot Tuna started as a side project while Jack and Jorma were still in the Airplane. Their first one or 2 albums came out while the Airplane still existed, definitely the first acoustic album. Hot Tuna would open shows for the Airplane. Jack and Jorma eventually left the Airplane to do Hot Tuna full time. So I think they fit within this topic.

In the middle of Art of Fielding right now, a good read. I hadn't previously thought of it, but I agree with the John Irving reference. Before that, I read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers. (I haven't mastered the ability to display the book covers when using my iPad). A non-fiction account of a Syrian family in New Orleans during and after Katrina. Excellent book. And infuriating to read what out of control police state government can do.

Wilco not doing festivals? Didn't they just do Forecastle? And Hangout Festival? Plus those 3 festivals in Europe? Something does not compute.

There was something about that Autumn Defense show that was very special. Maybe the combo of the room and it being Solid Sound, I don't know, but "countrified shimmer" says it perfectly. I am so looking forward to seeing Wilco there.

No encore?

It's a small room. Thought i read 1,000 tickets. Wonder if there will be chairs or open floor? When the Autumn Defense set was moved in there at 1st Solid Sound, the floor was open in front with risers and seats in the back s my memory. For the comedy cabaret last year it was all chairs. Wonder if anyone has seen a proper concert in that room? I was also under the impression that there will be no opener, which is what I am counting on. And I have no problem if they decide to open with One Sunday Morning.

Damn shame, they were the greatest band on the planet in their day.

Have a few Wilco merch items, and glad to have them and pay for them for a band that gives us so much. Among my favorites: the Wilco/Intelligensia coffee mug from the first Solid Sound, a few tee shirts (cherry ghost and Wilco phone ringing) and a beautifully framed and signed "butterfly" poster for the Orpheum Theater show on the "Evening With" tour.

I love a matrix, my favorite recordings. I'm always grateful to those who take the time to put them together and circulate them. Looking at my hard drive, I have a bunch of Wilco matrixes: 2007-08-22; 2008-03-09; 2008-05-15; 2010-03-03. -

I have the audience recording, which sounds excellent. AKG 481 (fob) > V3 > Marantz PMD661 (16/44.1) Recorded and seeded by Jeff Frank jsfrank@sbcglobal.net Will have to compare to the XRT stream recording. Has anyone already done that comparison? I know listening to the stream live on Sunday it sounded great. An FM broadcast would typically be more compressed (hence the search in the old days for a "pre-FM" recording), don't know if that's the case with a web streamed FM broadcast. -

I noticed the same thing both years at Solid Sound. Standing out in Joe's Field, I thought the PA was noticeably great. Crystal clear sound out in the field at night. -

I was not in the ballpark. But sitting on my couch listening to the webstream, I thought this show rocked! No complaints from me. -
Thanks for that info.

Isn't that what it's titled on the Loose Furs release? Where does "Not for the Season" come from?

Laminated cat, yes.

He doesn't sound flat to me at all.

Excellent interview. As usual. What struck me: "Tbe thing that surprised us most about YHF is how much better it sounded when we learned how to play it live.". I agree! I've had this discussion repeatedly with many people for whom YHF is the pinnacle. I always say those songs sound much better live. I'm glad Tweedy agrees.

Who's Going To What/Which/When 2012 Gigs? Roll Call

I realized last night I didn't have my Hartford tickets, panic set in. I emailed Front Gate early this morning and got a response that they were being shipped today via UPS. Don't know whether it was a coincidence that I wrote to them on the day they were already going to ship, or they sensed the panic in my email and were kind enough to relieve the stress and get them out today. Either way, I'm breathing much easier now. -
This discussion doesn't make any sense to me. Don't see why it would be a business decision?
