Hence, their first single (and still to this day one of my favorite songs), Will the Wolf Survive?

Top 3 All Time Underrated things on music earth
worldrecordplayer replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Someone Else's Song
I remember it quite clearly. And it was as mind blowing as you probably imagine. Agree about Hidalgo, and I have Lobos as my answer. Was just having that very discussion today, a few hours ago, in the Lobos topic here. -
Maybe it's just the way they set it up in Lowell. The stage is set at the center field wall, and the soundboard is behind a barrier on the edge of the outfield/infield. So they have the area in between the stage and soundboard gated off for people to cram in, but then they don't allow anyone on the infield or any other part of the field, so everyone else is sitting back in the stands. It felt very disconnected from the show to be in the stands, like you were outside looking in. I don't know how they do it at other ballparks. If they are to do a summer show here in Boston, I sure hope they

Certainly a little presumptuous on my part to complain for them about their career. For all I know, they're perfectly happy playing bars and clubs. I'd just like to see them rockin the house in the Orpheum or Beacon type venues. I don't recall them playing big venues other than as the opener for someone else (they did a bunch of stadium shows opening for the Dead).

Just Another Band from East LA is a 2 disc compilation, with lots of live tracks. I like it a lot. Lobos is one of my favorite bands, and as Louie says, a deep and interesting catalog. The core have been together over 30 years, so they have that family thing going. Plus, they have David Hidalgo. Always one of my musical frustrations that this band never broke bigger than they have, but the plus side is I still get to see them in bars. But they are very much deserving of a wider audience.

I don't know why Wilco (or any other band) likes playing those minor league ballparks so much. From the audience side, I don't like them, at least the way I've seen it in Lowell. They gate off a small area in front of the stage to the soundboard, and either you're standing in there (usually packed to the gills), or you're sitting all the way back in the stands, which feels like being on the outside looking in. Not my favorite venues.

Long time since I had this on the turntable. I'd forgotten how much I like this album.

I really hope it's not the last weekend in July, or any summer weekend at this point. Getting rooms to stay would be tough by this point for a summer weekend in the Berkshires.
-
Only because the way they phrased the news, referring to a weekend.
-
Yes, with the comment: "This would be a nice place to spend an early summer weekend, don't you think?" Multiple shows at Red Rocks.
-
On the MunckMusic site, there's an option for immediate download of each show. When I bought the Nels show they weren't selling the discs yet.
-
I bought the Nels show, flacs. Nels comes out starting with Dreams, and best I can tell takes the solo that starts at the 5:00 minute mark. I think.
-
Take that back. Just announced that Levon can't play and Lobos are doing a *free* show tonight in Portsmouth. Good for them, and for anyone who makes it!
-
Doesn't exactly fit the criteria, but was watching the most recent House of Lies and one of the guys said " turn your frown upside down.". I have some live show, must be a Tweedy show (from D.C. I think) where he banters about being embarrassed by that lyric. So that qualifies as a " Wilco heard while out and about", I think.
-
Should be, but I'm not, going to Los Lobos and Levon Helm in Portsmouth. Bummed about that.

Just watched the slideshow, set to Jack Straw. Love those photos. The next week at Roosevelt Stadium was my first proper Dead show, these photos really bring me back to what was a great time.

It's been very quiet, too quiet.

Agree with all that. Excellent analysis!

Nels sits in with Allman Brothers 3/16
worldrecordplayer replied to RaspberryJam's topic in Just A Fan
Now that is what I call a surprise guest! Btw, you should change the topic heading to "3/16" -
Nels plaed on Dreams, Spanish Key and Mountain Jam. I'll purchase this one.
-
Nels with the Allmans at the Beacon! Whoa! Was he playing Duane's Goldtop?

Can't argue with that logic. A year that had that Europe tour and Veneta is tough to beat.
