Wilco - The Whole Love voted #5 album of the year (great write up)
worldrecordplayer replied to cc3078's topic in Just A Fan
Overall, good review of the live show. Very apt description of what it's like to experience Wilco live. Except, and it's a big except: the band are merely supporting actors in The Jeff Tweedy Show??? I can't go along with that concept. And I'm as big a Tweedy as the next person here (I frequently refer to my man crush on Tweedy when describing how important a songwriter and overall addition to the universe he is). -

I am still hopeful for an announcement about Solid Sound 2012. Maybe that's Wishful Thinking, but I'm hoping.

That's gotta be the line of the week, if not year. -

Threw this on the big screen and pumped the audio threw the surround sound. 65 minutes on the treadmill made for my best workout of the week. (may be my only workout of the week, but that's another story) -
In Boston, and totally jealous! I could use a Wilco show right now. Or 4.
-
Nothing matches up to those 2 for me either.

Goes right to my top grouping of bet of the year. Excellent from beginning to end.
-
Great. I went 3 of the 4, and skipped the last night. I'll agitate over that decision all year!

Trey can play for me anytime CK!

I agree that comparing Trey and Derek is a joke, but mostly because they play such different styles of guitar, I don't see how they could be compared. I enjoy Trey's playing immensely. And Derek just blows me away, the kid's (I guess he's not a kid anymore) unreal. Especially his right hand. I could watch him for hours, and never figure out what he's doing with that right hand.

Some pretty outstanding guitar playing right here if you ask me. I was happy to be in the house.

I saw the Orpheum show in May. I didn't think they were subdued at all. But I really like the songs from Man in Motion, and there were some great covers in there too. I have a pretty good recording of the Orpheum show, I'd be happy to send to you if you'd like.

I agree in part. I love Derek and Warren, and love hearing them play in their own thing. But there is something about the full impact of the ABB; whether its Oteil, the percussion (I think Marc is an unsung hero of that band), the Hammond B-3, Gregg's singing (when he remembers the words), the whole package together is something when they're on. Plus, getting to see Derek and Warren together, trading licks in a guitar war on Woman Across the River or wrapping those harmonized lead lines around each other, is something to behold, a treat you don't get seeing their individual bands. Ditto that. I'm astounded by those comments actually. But, everyone's got a different set of ears. Just look at the RS Top 100 Guitarists. No Warren, and no Trey.

Did you know that there was a defect with the shirt and they replaced them for free if you sent it back?
-
Except I always felt with Garcia it was self-induced by his addiction. I believe Gregg is living a sober life now, but he's failing for other reasons. There were times he seemed truly befuddled up there over the 3 shows I went to.

It was at that point my buddy texted me: "if he was a horse, they would just shoot him".

Only 3 for me, I need more. Solid Sound 1 Cherry Ghost Wilco phone ringing

A "tepid" reaction to TWL online? Have I been hallucinating these past several months? -
Where does that come from? Great.

Blue Sky was done because they did the entire Eat A Peach album on Wednesday. Which followed the entire Live At Fillmore East on Tuesday. I think it was only the 2nd or 3rd time they've done Blue Sky since they kicked Dickey's ass out of the band. Of course Warren has done it with Phil and Furthur. Warren should have sang it Wednesday.

I'm "gmfeld" over there, so you would have seen my commentary. I didn't think the band was off, but Gregg is really struggling and is just not performance worthy at this point. Too many blown lyrics, doesn't know when to come in with the vocals, can't keep up with the tempo when he does remember the lyrics. Not every song, but too many, and it's way too noticeable.
