  1. I see she wrote an episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets. My favorite show of all time. That must be why Tweedy put her name in the song title.
  2. Is this the Jane Smiley? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Smiley
  3. Several days later, and I still can't get enough of this song. Last night I made my wife sit down, put away her iPhone and had her listen through the stereo while she read the lyrics someone posted here. This morning on the train I ran into a friend and took his iPod out of his hands and gave him mine and made him listen to this on our way into work. Of course, both were blown away by the tune. One Sunday Morning isn't just a "Wilco classic", it's an "all-time classic."
  4. I'm hoping so. I'm flying a signed print (by the artist, not the band) of the Boston Orpheum "Evening With" show in my family room. Beautiful butterfly. One of the best shows of my life. Hoping to add another. And a shoutout to our VC friend, Tinnitus Photography, I'm looking at a nice montage of Solid Sound 2010 photos in my office, matted and framed around the program. He's got great photos if you're in the need.
  5. I would add Los Lobos to that list. They're last release being one of their best. 30+ years together, a band that's never gotten the recognition which I believe they so deserve.
  6. The question posed is "should we expect greatness at this point?". With this band and this lineup, I absolutely do. And they have consistently delivered for me, on recordings and live. Ok, I wouldn't say WTA is "great", but I like most of the tunes on there, a lot. and SBS is definitely a great album in my book. I'm amazed at how frequently it gets dissed around here. I am ready to bestow the "greatness" label to The Whole Love. Absolutely, and unequivocally. Other bands at the 16 year mark? That would put the Dead at 1983. The only studio release they put out after that year that
  7. Absolutely. I can't stop listening to this song. Under headphones, sends chills down my spine.
  8. Ditto to all of that. What a freaking great song.
  9. "One Sunday Morning", I don't know what words to use to describe how incredibly soulful this song is, and how this song just washes over me like a warm bath. Maybe those are the words. Thank you Wilco for rockin my world again.
  10. Couldn't disagree more. I've been with them since the beginning, have seen all the incarnations. To my ears, Nothing beats this current lineup as a live band. Not even close. But I still love Being There! On my second listen, and all I will say is I am a very happy Wilco fan today!
  11. Ditto. To my ears, I've never heard a mediocre Wilco record. And I have them all.
  12. Agreed. After years of thoroughly disappointing releases, I think Collapse Into Now is a return to the form of what made R.E.M. a great band. I've played this over and over, and I think it holds up well when played right along all those great albums of earlier in the life of this band. A band that had a run of like 5-7 straight releases (I can't get the number off the top of my head) of great music.
  13. hmmm, do you include Impossible Germany in your dislike of SBS, or is that subsumed within the "almost"???
  14. So glad you started this topic. I've been listening to Wilco since a.m.. I love SBS. Don't have to explain why, don't know if I can even state why. I love the preceding releases too. The negativity directed to SBS around here always amazes me. I just again looked at the track list. To each their own. But I'm firmly in the SBS camp.
  15. aaaaah, Solid Sound. Two nights of Wilco, with I think only 2 songs repeated. Oh, sorry for the digression...I'll slap myself back to today....
  16. Love that chart dissection. Don't think I've ever seen something like that before. "Nils [sp] Cline's swarm of bees guitar." "Cline's frantic shredding." Can't remember the last time I've been so psyched for a new release. Having already heard a bunch of the tunes played live certainly helps.
  17. Totally agree. Particularly for me, I tend to listen to live Wilco (and a lot of it), so I often forget what song came from what album. The live repertoire over the years has been consistently one big universe of unbelievably great songs.
  18. I listened to the Solid Sound version today. I can hook you up with the track via YouSendIt if you'd like. I am without reservation so psyched for this release.
  19. Totally agree. This tune has been in my head for weeks. Love it every time I her it.
