Agreed. After years of thoroughly disappointing releases, I think Collapse Into Now is a return to the form of what made R.E.M. a great band. I've played this over and over, and I think it holds up well when played right along all those great albums of earlier in the life of this band. A band that had a run of like 5-7 straight releases (I can't get the number off the top of my head) of great music.

So glad you started this topic. I've been listening to Wilco since a.m.. I love SBS. Don't have to explain why, don't know if I can even state why. I love the preceding releases too. The negativity directed to SBS around here always amazes me. I just again looked at the track list. To each their own. But I'm firmly in the SBS camp.

Totally agree. Particularly for me, I tend to listen to live Wilco (and a lot of it), so I often forget what song came from what album. The live repertoire over the years has been consistently one big universe of unbelievably great songs.

Staying off-topic, I am not embarrassed to admit that I really like listening to You Never Know. Every time. Just a straight ahead pop rocker. I know that puts me in a distinct minority around here. Maybe the band feels the same way most of you do: at JazzFest this year Tweedy introduced it by saying that Glenn was the only one in the band who wanted to play it. And staying with the W(TA) theme, One Wing is always outstanding live. To my ears anyhow.

To prove your point, I was listening to and seeing Uncle Tupelo, so my post counts here on VC don't shed much light. As I wrote above, I'm not certainly shutting any doors behind me on Wilco (just the opposite is true), but at the same time if I had a magic wand, I would always want to be able to see the bands I like play in venues no larger than the size of the Orpheum/Beacon, etc. rather than the Garden or some NFL stadium. I know there's an internal inconsistency there. Such is life.

I don't think anything I read here was talking about closing doors. Nor should my post be taken as such. You can ask my friends, I play Wilco (music or dvd) for every single person who comes to my house.

Having lived through the explosion of the Dead scene after In the Dark/Touch of Grey (the "Touchheads"), I understand the attitude. Different scenes, different music, I know, so the compare may not be apt, but still. From the fan's perspective, there is something nice about being on the inside of a "little secret", being able to go to Solid Sound and not wait on lines, be jostled by thousands of folks, etc.. See them at the Orpheum or Wang Center, not the Boston Garden. .On the other hand, Touch of Grey allowed the Dead to finally make some real money for the first time. So, if Wilco want

Absolutely agree. I've said it before, probably somewhere here in VC, that in almost 40 years of seeing live music this is a top 5 show for me.

With the will-call only rule in Boston, will be interesting to see if tickets end up on Stub Hub or other scalper sites.

For the Boston show, the rules are very strict that it's will-call only, and you will have to then go directly into the theatre, no more than a single purchase per person. Weren't these rules in place for all the venues? Are there scalpers selling Boston tickets even with the will-call only rule?

I would go center over far left, even giving up 10 rows. Better sound and lights. Speaking of which, I don't see much talk about Wilco's lights (maybe there's a topic somewhere I haven't seen), and I don't even know who the lighting director is (i.e., Phish=Chris Kuroda and the Dead were Candace Brightman-one of the great names of all), but Wilco's stage sets and lighting are superb. The 2 different sets they used at Solid Sound were both fantastic, and among my friends we were definitely talking about what a great job their lighting person does. Ditto for the sound. I got Orch. Right Center Row A seats 2 and 4 (on the center aisle). But I would love first row Mezz., my preferred seat in the Orpheum, and the location of many a great aud recording. I'm assuming that would be just as good in the Wang. I was at the 2010 Orpheum show. In over 35 years of seeing live music that was a top 5 show for me. "An Evening With." Can't be beat, wish they were doing that again.
