'77, particularly the first half of the year, no doubt an awesome period for the Dead. The general consensus is correct about that. One of my favorites from May '77 is the Buffalo show, 5-9-77,the night after the highly rated Barton Hall show. I like the Buffalo show better, particularly the killer first set. The opening Help>Slip>Franklin's may be the best I've ever heard, the set closing Music is off the hook, and in between the entire set is awesome. Jerry!

Wilco songs they play that you don't want them to
worldrecordplayer replied to lamradio's topic in Just A Fan
Just wondering how many times a year are you folks seeing Wilco? How many shows a year is the average VC'er catching? I'm used to this topic in the GD/Phish world, where lots of folks saw entire tours or large chunks of tours, winter, spring, summer and fall. There were always rumblings about not another Black Peter, NFA, etc. I never thought of Wilco as having that kind of road following beyond a very small number of folks. Personally, the 1, 2 or 3 Wilco shows I may see a year doesn't put me in the position of getting tired of hearing any of their songs. It's an amazingly great catalog -

Now that's something on which YMMV, very much so. Mine varies. I imagine that topic has been debated endlessly around these parts. -

None. I see Wilco maybe 2-3 times per year, so there are no bathroom break songs for me. -

Just random tunes, alternating. It's on a playlist on my iPod, which is now dead as a doornail. If I recall, the idea of a Beatles and Wilco playlist came from reading a blog post by Dale Murphy.

Weekdays, my listening is in the car or on the train to and from work. 90% of the time I'm listening to a live show (must be the old Deadhead in me, but I always gravitate to live performances), although TWL got more play time than any other studio release that I can recall. At home on weekends, a mix between playing vinyl, so the studio releases plus Kicking Television box set, live shows on disc or iPod, and watching concert footage (ACL, or Ashes DVD, or YouTube videos). Sometimes I play a Beat-Co playlist i put together, the Beatles and Wilco work fantastically well together.

I have the Santa Barbara show. A friend who was there sent me the link to it, was not on bt.etree. Have it on my computer at work so if you are still looking for it send me a message and I will hook you up.

3/4th or talking heads waiting on a call
worldrecordplayer replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Someone Else's Song
Can't decide whether the Heads or Ramones hold this title, so I'll call it a draw. Either way, they were an epic groundbreaking band. -

I'm torn about this Sunday night: Galactic and Steel Pulse at House of Blues (Boston), but it's also the Academy Awards, a night I usually spend watching with my wife (a real movie buff). She's encouraging me to go, "you can dvr the Oscars"), but I will be a game time decision. Other than that, pretty slim pickings in the immediate future: Furthur on April 5 Barr Brothers on May 15 Maybe, Los Lobos and zlevon on March 30, and maybe Cowboy Junkies on March 8. Oh yeah, Jazz Fest, first weekend in May. Can't forget about that!

That's some Wilco every day for you at Loon? A hotbed of Wilco fandom obviously.

They were absolutely my favorites in their time. Peaking with the Stop Making Sense tour. I've never forgiven Byrne for breaking them up. Wouldn't hold my breath on him wanting to get the Heads back together at this point. -
Great. I got to get going. (Sorry for the off-topic banter)

May not count as "live tonight", but on Leno tonight, Hidalgo, Cesar and Robert Randolph. I'll be recording. http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/televised-tune-on-the-tube-this-week-168/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HiddenTrack+%28Hidden+Track%29&utm_content=My+Yahoo

The Grateful Dead movie is definitely worth having on DVD. Forget the movie, the bonus disc of straight out footage from those shows is off the hook.

Wasn't there, but those Cal Expo shows are great. MSG September '90 run one of the last great runs, second set of 9-20-90 being the single best set I ever saw.

really great Tweedy interview from back in Nov.
worldrecordplayer replied to SarahC's topic in Just A Fan
"Rock n roll's a contact sport" Great interview. Tweedy always seems to have some Bob Weir in him in any interview. Never really seems comfortable. Really like the interviewer, never heard of him. DBoon is right, he should have a national gig. -
Thanks for that heads up. I always like 89-91 GD but never checked out this DVD. I will now.

One Sunday Morning played during the last several minutes of last Thursday's Private Practice. Not one of my shows, but was sitting with my wife when our heads turned at the unmistakeable biginning to OSM. A good 3-4 minutes of the song played, at least.

Where does the Weir reference come from? I missed that.

A skewering of the Grammys, the awards and the show, here in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/14/arts/music/at-the-54th-grammy-awards-everything-old-is-praised-again.html?_r=1&src=tp Of particular note to me, is the (well deserved in my mind) ripping of the Foo Fighters (sorry to the Foo Fighters fans here): "Also troubling was the domination in the rock categories of Foo Fighters, who took home five awards. In acceptance speeches during both the pretelecast and the main show, the band’s frontman, Dave Grohl, invoked the garage in which it recorded its winning album, “Was

Ladies & Gentleman The Rolling Stones '74
worldrecordplayer replied to roadhse ma's topic in Someone Else's Song
I saw this at the Ziegfeld Theater in Manhattan when it was originally released. (Also where I saw the Grateful Dead Movie when it came out. I guess I'm old). So when it came out again last year I bought the dvd. Certainly the video and audio on this 1972 recording are not up to current standards, but I enjoy having it and watching it occasionally. If you've never seen it, or if you want to again see the Stones at just about the height of their powers, definitely worth watching.
