  1. I so admire your ability to combine your fanaticism with such realism, Diane. You somehow manage to keep a cool head and not get sucked into an (imaginary) emotional bond with the band, in spite of your obvious love for them and the music they create. And on top of that, you express yourself so eloquently. I bow down to your wisdom once again!
  2. I think maybe that reviewer WAS very excited to see Wilco, but for some reason, the show just didn't click for him/her. I'm no stranger to feeling that a show wasn't intimate enough -- I've felt that at a few Wilco shows. However, that wasn't my experience in Tampa. The reviewer also equates playing songs from Summerteeth and Yankee as nostalgia. Those songs aren't nostalgia, IMO. They're Wilco, as they once were, and as they are now as a live package. Expectations can really set you up for a huge fall. All my expectations were piled into my St. Augustine experience, while for Tampa I
  3. All opinions were weighed. My own worry that three consecutive nights of Wilco would be "too much" were thrown overboard. Et, voila! One more night of heaven for me. YAY is right!
  4. Okay, IRDB, you talked me into it! Adding Charlottesville to the two nights at Wolf Trap for the perfect summer Wilco trifecta!
  5. The tallship Bounty was docked in St. Augustine a couple weeks ago and we got to take a tour. It was the replica they made for the sixties' movie with Marlon Brando. Just started the book, already sucked right in!
  6. Wow -- that puts quite an exclamation point at the end of the Southeast tour! Sounds fantastic.
  7. It was me -- didn't you recognize me? Just kidding. I was somewhere behind both you guys, I think.
  8. That was fun! Nice camera work for a live stream.
  9. I requested The Late Greats for St. Aug, which they played. Also requested I'm Always in Love for Tampa, which they played. I know others also requested Always in Love, so maybe it was a matter of numbers. But I requested Muzzle of Bees for both shows multiple times and they didn't play it. A crap shoot, I'm pretty sure, but it's fun to have the option.
  10. The acoustic version of Spiders is officially making my list. Heard it at both shows I went to this week and I'm in love with it.
  11. That's interesting -- I had the opposite experience. In Tampa I was in Row 9 and the sound was fantastic. Jeff's voice sounded as good as I've heard it, and the guitar work sounded perfect and blew me away. Last night in St. Aug, I was in the pit, 3rd row in front of Pat, and from where I was the mix was not at all integrated. I guess you sacrifice the sound a bit for proximity. I think in the future I'll err on the side of being a bit farther away and having it sound the way it's supposed to. BTW, since I did stand in front of Pat the whole time, I noticed he had a distinctly bored loo
  12. The venue holds nearly 4,000 so I don't think it was that poorly attended. But thank you Wilco, for playing the "tertiary markets" like St. Aug -- they surely would have gotten a bigger crowd in other Florida towns but I'm eternally grateful for having Wilco in practically my very own backyard.
  13. I'll keep this one in my head today! St. Augustine was so much fun -- a little feeling of worlds colliding with my new VC friends and my hometown friends all mixed together. Truth be told, I've anticipated this week for so long that if I didn't have Wolf Trap to look forward to, I'd be in despair right now. I hate when it's over!
  14. Such a stellar show -- I'm still on Cloud 9! Tonight's show in St. Augustine will no doubt have a different vibe -- but the Tampa show was so good it will stick with me for a long time. Still picturing Jeff's face during Company in my Back -- "they're hissing radiator tunes."
  15. We're going to be cutting it close time-wise, so probably just see you at the show.
  16. Any VC'ers coming to St.. Augustine who want to meet up for a pre-show party, bring it on! See y'all on Wednesday! Sunset Grille 421 A1A Beach Blvd. May 16 at 5:30
  17. Have a great time, SarahC -- hope you make it to the front row!
  18. My daughter and I planted a bunch of flowers and herb seeds several weeks back. We've got zinnias, cosmos, and several kinds of basil!
  19. So you just got a front row seat, a week before the show? That is absolutely amazing! Don't tell Frontgate!
  20. Actually, since it will be around dinner time and the food is better just down the road at Sunset Grille, let's meet there. It also has a nice upper deck, umbrellas, etc. Doors open at the venue at 6 pm, with the opener at 7. I'm thinking meet at 5:30 or so since no one has to rush the stage to be up front. Sound good? The address is 421 A1A Beach Blvd., St. Augustine Beach
  21. Tampa - May 14 St. Augustine - May 16 Wolf Trap - July 17 Wolf Trap - July 18
  22. Agree. The songs seem to reveal something fresh at every listen. I was listening to AGIB at top volume the other morning on an early drive to Orlando (couple hours from home). I had this very cool experience: I was driving past a few miles of landscape that had burned a few years back. There was a ground layer of scrubby palmettos and the occasional silhouetted charred tree trunk sticking out. Hovering over this barren landscape was a layer of mist that dissipated 5-6 feet above the ground. Spiders was playing, the crunchy dissonant solo that starts around 5:00. The way the song sounde
