  1. Thanks for clearing that up. Guess I'm a naive, small-town girl who doesn't get Brooklyn hipster-ese. Still, those NY bastards were lucky enough to get Muzzle of Bees (which I've been requesting like an m-f'er, to no avail, for the past 5 shows I've attended). They should have been more grateful!
  2. So, all those people that were hating on Wilco bought tickets and went to the show? I really don't understand. Were they being sarcastic? I'm serious -- why were they there? Why go to a show if you are too cool for the band?
  3. Oh god, that was disturbing! Jeff makes such an ugly trannie. I bet Pat would make a purdy one, though.
  4. If they were all wearing t-shirts it would be a wet t-shirt contest by the end of the show! While some fans might get a kick out of that, I think it's exactly what they're trying to avoid. Too bad!
  5. I guess without seats, they can squeeze lots more people in there. It did feel totally small and was the best outdoor venue I've seen Wilco play. BTW, were you wearing a baseball style shirt with the word GHOST on the back?
  6. Damn -- that is a smokin' soundcheck!
  7. Especially with Jeff singing falsetto towards the end. ("I check the phone," etc.) Swoon! .
  8. My brother-in-law and his wife live in Philly and they were also complaining that the shows sell out in minutes and they've never had a chance to see Wilco there. I told him I'd hook him up with Frontgate next time, but if it were me I'd just drive to DC to see those shows. A friend of mine once advised me never to miss the opportunity for a Wilco show, and I have to say that's advice I now live by!
  9. That was my friends and me holding up the signs! What a fantastic show, and all the better that they closed it out with "I'm a Wheel"! Been waiting a while for that one to show up. The overall energy at the Charlottesville show was palpable. Starting with Lee Ranaldo and going through Wilco's fantastic set and amazing encore, it was just non-stop. We had a little extra excitement when a very inebriated woman stumbled around and nearly fell on us during "Monday." She then proceeded to pee on herself. Too much fun, indeed! We were so wired after the show that we decided to go around t
  10. Unfortunately, I won't be there, but I think that room has the potential for a great, intimate show. When Autumn Defense played that space at SS 2010, I was about halfway back and it sounded absolutely beautiful. Later read a review of it that described it as "countrified shimmer" and those words described it perfectly. If I were going, I'd definitely be hoping for OSM!
  11. Haven't seen Moonrise Kingdom yet, but I hope to in the next couple of days. It sounds like it's worth a trip to the local mega-plex to see it on the big screen. Most things I'm content to wait for the DVD, but Wes Anderson's work is pretty special. (Huge Rushmore fan here.) BTW, the above conversations are what I really love about this board. Intelligent, articulate conversations about topics I'm interested in... and, we all love Wilco! It's pretty perfect.
  12. A short and sweet Woody/Tweedy nightcap -- thanks for posting, Diane!
  13. Just reading all you guys' rave reviews of last night is making me so excited for my Wilco trifecta next week! (Wolf Trap x 2 + Charlottesville = THE BEST WEEK OF THE YEAR!!!) These mid-summer setlists are crazy good. And if they play Muzzle of Bees next week, it will be all the more golden. Fingers crossed!
  14. Read Black Swan Green over my beach vacation... what a stunner. I absolutely loved that book. Coming-of-age stories always seem to have strange power over me and I'd hold this one up to Catcher in the Rye without a second thought. Reading this as a palate cleanser:
  15. He does seem to be unusually unguarded and sincere, without any sarcasm or the least bit of snarkitude. I wonder if all the intervening years of answering interviewers' dumb repetitive questions have just taken their toll?
  16. Thanks for posting -- I really enjoyed that. Especially the last few minutes where he talks about the listener making the music what it is, bringing the meaning and beauty out of an inanimate object like a record or CD. "Half of it's you, half is me."
  17. I thought the same thing. We (the superfans, as I fondly dub us) are probably the best and worst thing for Wilco... Yes, we buy a helluva lot of tickets and see tons of shows, but there are also our opinions, and our g-d requests! Jeff probably wishes we'd just let him call the shots sometimes... but when there are songs that affect you like no others, it's no good to leave it to chance. Can't win for losin'. ** Hey, Diane (Wilco Me), did you see yourself at the beginning of the video?! That's pretty great!
  18. WTA definitely gets the red-headed stepchild treatment in the Wilco catalog. The show I saw last fall featured both BBN and One Wing, but I have to say neither gets me excited. I would have loved to hear Wilco (the song) at my hometown St. Augustine show, but they dropped that one off the setlist because of the venue's early curfew. I've been waiting and hoping to hear Country Disappeared live, which they occasionally break out. Agree with previous posters about the second half of SBS... it's just flat compared to the first half, and to other Wilco records. Overall, I'm very excited about
  19. That is a great movie! One of my daughter's favorites, too. Watched and really enjoyed this last night:
  20. There was a "Wilco dreams" thread on here a year or so ago... but the other night I had one, too. I dreamt that the Wilco guys were on a game show and I was also a contestant. That's all I remember... maybe it was sparked by Richard Dawson's death. Not to mention being saturated in all things Wilco a lot of the time. I usually wake up in the night with Wilco songs in my head, too...
  21. Even though we all know how things turned out, I think Jay was being very annoying. Reminded me of a know-it-all kid showing off, only in a kid it's tolerable because they're still figuring out how NOT to annoy people!
  22. Well, I'm glad that you choose to stay sober -- that way we don't miss out on your spot-on setlists and run-downs! I will admit, there have been Wilco shows where I was in the "too much fun" club and regretted not having more crystalline memories of each song played, every word of banter, the small nuances. It's difficult (for me, anyway) to not get caught up in the spirit of a great big ole Wilco party! That last beer always seems like such a good idea at the time...
