  1. This is even harder than the debate I had yesterday with my 7-year old daughter about which is better: Doritos or Pringles? (Her vote, Doritos. Mine, Pringles.) In no particular order: Monday Muzzle of Bees Black Moon Sunken Treasure I'm Always in Love Via Chicago Hell is Chrome Ashes Pot Kettle Black One Sunday Morning
  2. I was thinking about starting a thread for a pre-show meet up. Post-show sounds more fun, everyone will be so amped up from the show. But I have to work the next morning at 9... So if some folks want to grab a beer someplace close by the venue before the show, I can scout a spot and set that up. There's a bar a couple miles from the Amphitheatre called Panama Hattie's, that's easy to find and has a big outdoor deck with umbrellas, etc. Or, if more people would rather do something afterwards, y'all can make plans for that. To say I'm excited doesn't even come close...
  3. Hunh. Would have thought "The Jeff Tweedy" would be a Diet Coke. Wonder what his go-to beverage was in his drinkin' days? Sort of doubt watermelon was involved!
  4. YES!! Oh man, that would be something. I really hope the Total Pros come around with Wilco again -- maybe Solid Sound 2013? I just re-watched Levon's band and Wilco singing "I Shall Be Released" from SS 2011. The trumpet solo nearly does me in. Wait, are you guys the same ones that won't tell us any fun stories from the Living Room Shows?
  5. Just started it last night. His very folksy way of speaking comes through. I think that might be more charming as an audio thing than on the page. I never really connected with The Band but thoroughly enjoyed seeing Levon Helm at Solid Sound. Also really enjoyed hearing some interviews on Fresh Air the day after he died. Listening to Music From Big Pink as I write this. ** EDIT: Spent the entire afternoon reading this book. Playing hooky from real responsibilities. Can't put it down!
  6. I almost always skip Open Mind. I wish I liked it more, but it just doesn't seem to go anywhere and the lyrics fall a bit flat for me. On the other hand, Black Moon has become the new standout beauty on The Whole Love. I love the texture and layers, and I've said it before, but Glenn's percussive genius on this one blows me away. Can't wait to hear the new songs live next month! Heard them way back in September, just before the record was released, but something tells me they'll have morphed into butterflies by now.
  7. Lots of tweens and teenagers wearing blue wigs, cat ears, mini skirts and striped socks. (There's an anime club at the library where I work and this is a typical costume for the girls. Blue hair is popular for the guys too.)
  8. I was talking to my daughter's babysitter yesterday, and she'd seen the montage of Wilco ads for the St. Augustine show on my fridge. She said she was a fan and had spent her junior year of high school riding around in the car with her girlfriends, smoking cigarettes and listening to YHF. Suffice it to say she's MUCH younger than me. It was cool sharing that with her, though, and then I find out that the very day of our conversation was the 10-year mark!
  9. Have fun! I do love me a DBT show.
  10. Their new record was featured on a Saturday a.m. radio show this past weekend, and after hearing two songs, I vowed then and there to get it. I need to follow up on that!
  11. Do you want them in your living room or your backyard?
  12. Except for in the beginning of "Airline to Heaven!" And even then, the crowd gets off the beat after the first few bars and it gets awkward.
  13. Ummm, you need St. Augustine and Miami, right? You just bought Tampa from me.
  14. Just keep on riding that non-stop Wilco train you're on!
  15. If you need tickets, I have a primo 9th row seat for the Tampa show. Selling at face value + fees --$55. See my earlier post this forum!
  16. Sign o' the times: in the ABBA limo picture, everyone looks like they are enjoying their limo ride and champagne. In the Wilco limo picture, everyone is tapping into their mobile digital device.
  17. So do you attribute these JT meetings to good timing? Pure luck? Being in the right place at the right time? I'd like to absorb some of that and have a total accidental run-in, maybe at a taco place or on the beach, before the St. Augustine show. Wilco guys like tacos, right? " I exist in his eyes." This captures it perfectly. More ego -- damn thing can't be squashed!
  18. THAT'S IT! (In the manner of Lucy to Charlie Brown when he suggests that their Christmas play needs a tree.) But, for me anyway, it's only some songs. Jeff's voice is a constant, but not all Jeff's songs produce that cellular oscillation, as you so deftly put it. Yes, I think you're on to something here. When the object of your worship seems so familiar, from his voice and mannerisms to what he's wearing, how is it possible that you're just a total stranger to him? We can't help but want some sort of reciprocation to help support all the years of adoration. Like you, I find it vastl
  19. Lots of references to great banter, but can anyone give us a few examples? I'd love just a teeny window into the vibe of the show. Also, what's The Community Song? Looked on youtube and basic google search but could not find a listenable version.
  20. It's funny, in thinking about music and the brain, I've wondered about what specifically happens in my brain when I listen to some Wilco songs, and why they feel so different to me than listening to any other music. I get a very physical response (elevated heart rate, for example!), and I'm sure neurological, too, that just isn't there with most other music. How (and why) do our brains react to our favorite music, versus music in general or to music that we don't like? It's very, very interesting! I need to read the Oliver Sachs book about music and the brain. Thanks for posting that lin
  21. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. In spite of being an agnostic who likes her drink, I find profound comfort in the Serenity Prayer.
  22. I'm pretty sure I'd do exactly the same thing! There's a reason for our heroes to remain afar... so we can continue to worship them! It doesn't seem like meeting tons of random people who think he's great is that high on Jeff's list. Having said that, however, Wilco is playing in St. Augustine (where I live) in May. How did all you guys oh so casually meet Jeff Tweedy? Does one hang around for hours before or after the show? Stalk the bus? What do you even do?
