  1. Tweedy was not in Soul Coughing, but this album would have been even awesomer if he had been on it. As for a more serious reply, I do think it is interesting that the people who seem most disappointed with Wilco/Tweedy, whether over the new album or just a growing unease in general, seem to be the ones most invested in the idea of Tweedy as some sort of musical savior. I guess I just never bought into that line of thinking --I remember his budding, awkward moments in UT. If anything, Farrar was supposed to be the "genius" back then, and I think that's why I've been frequently disappointe
  2. >= I'll be burning couches metaphorically tomorrow night. Still not 100% sure I'll see the game, actually. My wife is 38+ weeks pregnant, so I'm pretty much on alert 24/7 these days--I've submitted a formal request that she wait until after the game to go into labor, but she makes no promises. Does "Oden" make a good middle name for a girl?
  3. Not that I recall, but I make no promises.
  4. I had the same initial response to IATTBYH. By the time he got to "I assasin down the avenue" I wanted to shout at the radio "Come on, you're not even trying!" Eventually I came to dig it, of course, but I'm still not convinced there weren't refrigerator-magnets employed in the writing of that song. I don't know what this has to do with anything. You Are My Face is arguably my favorite Wilco track in years, but I think that has more to do with the sound of the middle section than anything. Lyrically, it has some tremendous lines such as "I trust no emotion/I believe in locomotion" whic
  5. April fools? (please please please be a joke)
  6. As long as they don't outsell the "Michigan - NIT First Round" commemorative t-shirts I'm selling in Columbus.
  7. I like the way he sings the word "occupied" during Hate It Here. Its subtle, but there's something cool about it.
  8. If such a beast exists, I highly suggest listening to that version--if only for the fact that I am eternally horrified that in a few spots in the currently-circulating version of this show I can hear myself atonally singing along. Thankfully, there are several other people guilty of this too, so at least I'm not alone. But this show is the reason I now look around for mic stands at shows and make sure I am a safe distance away.
  9. Dear Buckeyes, Congratulations on your berth in the NCAA Championship Game against the University of Florida. This scenario sounds familiar. Despite the obvious parellels that the media will likely draw in the coming days between this game and that which the football team played in a few months ago, may I suggest that you go out there and win this game for you Monday night, rather than getting caught up in the hype of trying to avenge somebody else's loss that you had nothing to do with. But if you happen to find a way to blow them out by at least 40, please feel free to do so. Thank yo
  10. Another one? Geez, is there a bottomless well of songwriting ideas concerning the theme of being a redneck woman?
  11. I think I had a Grant Lee Buffalo record or two back in the day. Not bad, but not really one of my absolute favorites.
  12. I had the same reaction recently: 1 Hold Steady ticket - $15 Total = $27 and change I know it happens all the time, but still sometime it catches you and you just go "Wha???"
  13. I think I actually might pass on the dvd. It sounds cool and all, but, eh, I dunno...
  14. Yeah, you'll be ok. I think the reason I remember making the comment about it being pretty in the fall there is that is probably the only thing I've ever heard anybody say about Lynchburg. Its pretty in the fall. And there's Liberty. And, uh...
  15. Hope so, his string of "lovable moron" movies is pretty played out. He really needs a new shtick.
  16. I think I remember when you first posted about moving down to Lynchburg and I think my reaction was "Well, I hear its really pretty in the fall, but...." Not too surprised it didn't really turn out to be your cup of tea. Fairfax is a pretty decent place, though. Unless things have radically changed since I lived around there, there still isn't much to do at night unless you're going into the city, but at least you're not too far away.
  17. Yeah, the train goes through there. Good thing b/c 66 isn't much fun. Is it really so bad down there in Lynchburg? I've driven through a few times, tho can't say I've ever spent any time there.
  18. My sister lives in Manassas. This is good advice.
  19. Good call. Where in Fairfax? (I grew up in Springfield)
  20. Baltimore and DC are roughly 30-40 miles apart. Not far at all. I'm not sure I've ever ridden the train between them so I can't comment on how long that is. By car it is no more than a half hour, unless you're doing it at rush hour and then who knows?
  21. Maybe he'll put up another 500 songs on his website to tide people over?
  22. I'm giving that album a spin right now, since so many people are raving about it here. I've had it for years, but I've always been one of those people who plays "Timorous Me", "Parallel or Together?" and "Stove By a Whale" (up until skip-button urges kick in) and then I move on to something else. "Under Your Hedge" used to annoy me, but listening to it today on headphones I'm digging the whole thing more as a whole than usual.
  23. I think I just need to sit down and make a Ted Leo playlist. Each album has a handful of songs that blow me away and a bunch that leave me kind of cold. When he's on, he's amazing, but I don't think any of his albums could I point to and say I'm in love with the album as a whole.
