-

-
sounds like you might have some good stories i need to hear/read!

yup, was gonna say i loved his work on Cold Roses. i liked the sound of Cardinology (some did not), but the material was nowhere near as strong.
-
nice, love this kinda stuff. thanks for posting.

TLF18 replied to gogo's topic in Someone Else's Song
that link in the first post doesn't work (for me). anywhere else to view the final list? -
are the deluxe bonus tracks streaming?
-
yea, i was typing too fast and misremembered that. it's not hooker, it's Ry Cooder who has a new one receiving rave reviews. (haven't heard it)

love Europe 72.... dont think i have the time/inclination for that massive set, but i love the Grateful Dead and E72 is definitely one of their best records.
-

One Sunday Morning (Song For Jane Smiley's Boyfriend)
TLF18 replied to ViaBuffalo's topic in Just A Fan
one of the first times i heard One Sunday Morning (i think it was my 2nd listen thru the record) i was laying in bed slowly drifting off to sleep (but still awake), holding my wife while there was a heavy rainstorm going on outside. doubt i'll forget that. -
the 2 album-version tracks i've heard sound great. loving what Glyn Johns did with the production. here's some "first impressions" from Q: http://news.qthemusic.com/2011/09/first_listen_ryan_adams_ashes.html First Impressions Of... Ryan Adams' Ashes & Fire Ryan Adams' new album Ashes and Fires isn't released until 11 October, here's Q's first impression of the singer-songwriter's long awaited 13th studio album (not including the three he did with Whiskeytown). Dirty Rain: "Last time I was here it was raining but it ain't raining anymore," begins Ryan Adams on this wistful acou

Two Men with the Blues (Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis, with wynton's band... live) is a great great album. but it's very diverse, not all blues. doesn't John Lee Hooker have a new one out that's been getting great reviews? not sure...

well, for perspective, his favorite song in the world is "Little Ghost" by the White Stripes.

Sky Blue Sky - Confession of a Relatively New Fan
TLF18 replied to xTonyWonder's topic in Just A Fan
great line. agree. -
i had heard/read a little "critical hype" about it and actually sat in one of those listening booths in a record store (remember those? not the booths, the record stores) and i listened to most of it and bought it right away.

loved Real Emotional Trash, i like Mirror Traffic but so far not nearly as much as RET. i'm a very casual malkmus fan, haven't heard everything and wasn't into pavement back in the day.
-
agree it needs to rest (hence the "pre-internet"), but not sure that qualified as a misuse: ep·ic /ˈɛpɪk/ adjective Also, ep·i·cal. 1. noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition; 2. resembling or suggesting such poetry; 3. heroic; majestic; impressively great. 4. of unusually great size or extent; both songs pretty much match all 4 definitions.
-
agree. love this album of course. one time i had it on and my 3-year-old said "this is scary" during a noisey/weird part. then later on he said "it's getting scary again." great stuff.

nice to see this RA thread here! i think this new one is gonna be a stunner for sure.
