Half way through El Cid. Interrupted by pleasant sofa snoozes. Will finish next weekend. On a more gritty note: third and final series of Happy Valley.

Sunday afternoon here. Was very tempted to watch El Cid too. Maybe this weekend if it's still on iPlaver

The Detectorists special - usual great low key stuff with a couple of nice twists. A treasure of itself. The Great Escape - from Boxing Day I think. What is Christmas without The Great Escape? Every time you think that Hilts just might make that jump over the wire.

I also heard yesterday that the last ever Doc Martin is going out over Christmas and I immediately thought of you LOL. It's funny that I've never seen a single episode.

Interesting, I thought it would be a one-time narrative of 'the story'. Fingers crossed too. Did you ever see The Terror (series 1 - the one in the Arctic). Enjoyed that for the same kind of slow atmospheric development - though the actual 'terror' bits were the weakest part for me. Absolutely loved this.

The BBC have this and am getting into it - love the detail and the slow burn.

Maybe now. especially the first one with the fuller upbeat sound. Anyone who never cleans their trainers has already got me on side.

Doug C: Get what you are saying too given the Cold War use of sport, but believe football to be such a game of the people (probably alone of all sports) all over the world that it will be the people of Iran, not the state, who might draw some happiness from any success, and I wish them at least that. Not to mention that the team itself are protesting how they can (captain's interviews and not singing their national anthem in the first match). There was a protester ran onto the pitch during last nights game. Didn't quite have time to unfurl a rainbow flag before being tackled by security, but ha

Nice story. Personally I don't actually watch domestic football. I'm a rugby fan and watch domestic rugby but for internationals Wales is Wales whatever the sport. Sorry USA (even though my sister lives there now after marrying an American) and given the Welsh chances are slim to none, I am now switching support to my second team. I visited in 2019 and they are a lovely, lovely people. Go Iran! "The power of the World Cup strikes like a bolt. The sound of the Iran national anthem being booed and whistled by Iranians before kick-off against Wales and the sight of Iranian
