Yep, Kenneth has the Martin and Joey has the Gibson. I can't believe what Kenneth does with that thing.

I am on that bandwagon. They opened for Punch Brothers when I saw them in December and when I got home, went straight to their site and downloaded Prologue and Retrospect. They're witty, clever songwriters and their harmonies are really special. Kenneth Pattengale is one of the best acoustic guitarists I've seen. They have some very funny schtick onstage too. This video of "Michigan" probably gives you a good idea of what they do, if you haven't heard them. The lyrics of their song "Permanent" really resonate for me.

Well, I have not bought nearly as much as you, but here's my list, near as I can figure. Note that this excludes random singles, live show downloads, and assorted NoiseTrade samplers. When I think about it, a lot of the music I've consumed comes from the "random assorted" category as opposed to albums purchased. Yep, he said he finds it odd that he is associated with "Americana" because he doesn't like much in that genre. He just finds it boring. He mentioned also the Big Star tribute show he did in Chicago a few weeks ago, and used the words "train wreck", which not so surprisingly, were the same words I would have used His honesty really struck me yesterday.

I had the same opinion when I saw them last month. You can't expect Jay to suddenly turn into Eddie Vedder and be high-fiving the front row and climbing up the rafters, but the band is really solid and they have some great tunes in their catalog. Really enjoyed the show.

Wanted to share this with anybody who takes an interest in Gary Louris. I went to see him this evening and he looked and sounded just great. He talked a little bit about his recovery, saying that he was not very well the last time he had played the venue (Evanston Space, just north of Chicago, a show I attended). He said that since, he has "straightened himself out", and alluded to the fact that his water bottle in the past would have been filled with something else. I've been following these shows like a sports fan following her favorite team. The different collaborations add such a fun twist to the proceedings. Wish there had been one with Dylan in Chicago. Just saw this very good video posted of the Blind Willie Johnson tune from last night. Seems like Jeff's and Jim's mic was off or turned down very low until the middle of the verse Jeff sang, but once it was on, Wow! Sounded great.

These two albums (Isbell's and Patty Griffin's) are the two that have been on constant repeat for me for the last couple of months. They are both exceptional. I had seen Jason Isbell the first time when he opened for Son Volt a few years ago, and he did a great set, but this new album is at another level for him, especially lyrically (plus, it has really updated my drug and alcohol references).
