  1. linclink, I think you win the Wilco fan of the year award. Quite a summer schedule! I'm a little envious.
  2. I love your spreadsheet! I'm such a nerd. Sadly, last night I was making a spreadsheet of all the Wilco and Tweedy shows I've seen and what their setlists are so I can run some stats Will be adding the Friday Americanarama show to that spreadsheet soon!
  3. I love this. Roy Clark always makes me think of Hee Haw, but this is sublime. Thank you for sharing
  4. Just for you, calvino, a brief recap of the Big Star tribute show. Overall, let's just call it a "noble but unsuccessful experiment". It was a bit disorganized (lots of dead air between songs and calling for musicians who should be on stage), and didn't have much resonance for me. Mike Mills pretty much won the night with his excellent vocals (always thought he was underrated as a singer). He looks so different now, I literally walked right past him in the street and didn't recognize him, even though REM was my Wilco in the late 80s and early 90s. Your buddy Ken Vandermark didn't have
  5. I will be sure to report back to the class on my findings
  6. Big Star tribute with a bunch of assorted musicians from good bands (I have no idea what this will be or what to expect, which is good!) Here's the description: Big Star’s "Third": An Orchestrated Live Performance of the Legendary Album along with a selection of earlier songs featuring: Jody Stephens (Big Star) / Mike Mills (R.E.M.)Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star) / Chris Stamey (The dBs) Mitch Easter (Lets Active) / Gary Louris (The Jayhawks) Josh Caterer (Smoking Popes) / Ed Roeser (Urge Overkill) Sally Timms (The Mekons) / Tim Rutili (Califone)Ken Vandermark and more - all backe
  7. This is great to hear, thank you for sharing! Going to see this strange Big Star tribute tomorrow at Park West in Chicago with Gary Louris, Mike Mills, and a host of notables. Should be interesting! Also going to see Gary Louris solo next month. Glad to hear he is healthy and doing well, because the Jayhawks' music is iconic and important to me. http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/05/big-stars-third-schedules-shows-for-chicago-new-york-city/ (hope it is not like that chaotic video at the bottom of this article though with 8 zillion vocalists)
  8. Welcome, abbieroad and surprisetruck! Glad you both enjoyed your first SSF as much as I did. Agree that the chair/blanket situation in Joe's Field seems to indicate that a new system is needed. On Saturday night I was standing behind a family with little bored kids sleeping in lawn chairs, right up front, which was really awkward for those around them and frankly not very fun for the kids. At Telluride Bluegrass Festival a few years ago I recall some kind of tarp system that meant you can put down your tarp, but if you're not there, others are free to take your spot. That seemed to work ok
  9. This setlist is fantastic. Thanks for the minute by minute reportage.
  10. "Alex Chilton" (which I still think would have been excellent, of course). Oh, sorry I was not clear. It was Sean Rowe, not Mulcahy, and he finished with "1952 Vincent Black Lightning". . That is a gorgeous bit of guitar work in that song, especially at the end there. Looking forward to hearing Richard Thompson perform it at Americanarama. I was introduced to early Fleetwood Mac by an old friend and particularly love "Do You Give a Damn For Me". I will look for Bare Trees! Thanks for the kind tip.
  11. This was my first Solid Sound but hopefully not my last! Thoughts and reflections: Mass MoCA: My brother-in-law came along for Friday's festivities and I was on my own Saturday and Sunday. What a treasure of a facility they have there at Mass MoCA! I'm originally from Pittsburgh and have seen a lot of these old mills that are converted for modern usage, but none nearly as beautiful or functional as that one. The contrast of the industrial with artistic creativity is perfection. I can't think of anyone (art lover or not) who would not find the Phoenixes impressive. And of course my inn
  12. So excited! Visiting family up here in Vermont and will drive down tomorrow for the SSF. The weather's been absolutely beautiful here for the past couple of days, so I hope it holds out. I can hardly stand myself.
  13. Just lovely. I saw them the night before (12/15/2011) at the Vic and it was magical also. When I saw Low at Metro a couple of months ago, there was way too much crowd chatter in the balcony and ended up moving down to the floor with the listeners. Something about that venue maybe brings out the chattiness?
  14. Patty Griffin. Just got home and she was fabulous. What a voice the woman has. And some great songwriting chops.
  15. Love Jason Isbell. For those of you in Chicago this weekend he is playing at Ribfest on Saturday night ($5!) Saturday's my birthday and I was planning to go with a friend, but now I have to be out of town :/ Enjoy extra for me if you go.
  16. I am also going to the Son Volt show at Park West, and have been looking for the right opportunity to czech out Constellation. Let me know the verdict if you make it there before me.
  17. Watched the documentary about the formation of the Punch Brothers called "How to Grow a Band" and the former bassist was wearing a Wilco t-shirt in his interview segments, to my delight.
  18. the verb "to trust" and never let you down.
  19. This morning went to my local coffee shop for a cup of joe and the cute guy who works the counter was whistling along to "Forget the Flowers"...and all was right with the world.
