  1. Just cast my vote for Alex Chilton by the Replacements.
  2. Anyone who's looking for presale info, you kind of have to dig through the almost 200 comments on Wilco's facebook posting, but here it is... "Wilco We are doing pre-sales jointly with bobdylan.com. We'll provide links & passwords on wilcoworld."
  3. I haven't been to a concert there (don't think they host many), but it's a soccer stadium located near Midway. Maybe I'm just being extra curmudgeony today, but the era of my life where I'm content to sit in my car for an hour and a half waiting to get out of a parking lot is long over I swore off stadium concerts years ago, though this is totally worth coming out of retirement for.
  4. Oh man. I would not go to a horrible, giant, traffic nightmare venue like that for anyone but Wilco. Don't see how I can pass up this amazing lineup though.
  5. I guess you have to be pretty darn good at the music part, when you are this bad at interviews as an up-and-coming band Had seen a poorer-quality version of this before due to excessive ritual googling, but it is really charming to see Jeff and Jay so so so young and early on in their professional music careers. They sound great when they play, for sure, there's no denying it even then. And how cute is young Jeff? Definitely, he is the most articulate in the group (tallest midget?) My hair wasn't as big as the interviewer in the late 80s and I didn't have the yellow-and-black checked le
  6. Bluegrass night for me! Seeing Noam Pikelny (of Punch Brothers), Bryan Sutton, Ronnie McCoury, Luke Bulla, and Barry Bales.
  7. I'm a fan. And their first two albums (Retrospect and Prologue) are both great and free for download on their website. You can't beat free awesomeness!
  8. Do it! Saw them opening for Punch Brothers in December and they were the best opening act I've seen in years. Great dynamic between them. Funny too. This interview is hilarious. http://www.popmatters.com/pm/feature/164914-its-going-to-get-dark-an-interview-with-the-milk-carton-kids/
  9. According to Consequence of Sound, Jeff and Spencer Tweedy recorded just about every instrument on the new album. Now that should be something interesting (as if it weren't already). http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/04/mavis-staples-enlists-jeff-tweedy-for-new-album-one-true-vine/
  10. Love the clever songwriting and acoustic guitar work on this.
  11. I believe this tells us all we need to know: pugghead nickelback>>> Wilco
  12. Like the photos. John is rocking the beard and v-neck!
  13. What a great attitude. Rare. I've been thinking about reports I read and heard about Foxygen at SXSW, and it seems like they kind of crumbled under the demands of their schedule. You tend to think that rock bands really have it made, living the dream, but there are a lot of unhealthy things about that life.
  14. Thanks so much! I haven't heard this band before, but am really liking their sound. Will try to see them in Chicago. Thanks for the tip!
  15. Speaking of artists sharing their political opinions, here is a relevant letter to the editor published in the Belleville newspaper yesterday... I was raised in Belleville and still happily reside in Illinois. Over the last few decades, I've had the good fortune as a member of the band Wilco to play music in every state in the union and in countless other countries. In my travels, I've witnessed firsthand that gay and lesbian couples want to marry for the same reasons all of us do -- to share a lifetime of commitment. I feel very strongly that everyone should be able to marry the perso
  16. So glad you like it The Punch Brothers' progressive bluegrass cover of Poor Places has a special place in my heart. Such amazing musicians covering one of my favorite songs ever.
  17. Yes! Got my DVR queued up. Also going to see Chris Thile with jazz pianist Brad Mehldau in a few weeks. Everything Thile does is inventive and interesting to me.
  18. I'm also a big Chris Thile fan. Having watched this one like a hundred times myself, you might enjoy it...
  19. It's so hard to pin down to just a few favorites, but here goes: Jane Austen Charles Dickens Edith Wharton Ernest Hemingway Nick Hornby Sarah Vowell You've all reminded me that I devoured all of Mark Twain's books when I was in grade school, but don't think I've read anything but a few short stories of his since then. I'm inspired to revisit them, as I always loved his vivid storytelling and wicked humor.
  20. Love the photos! Definitely a loose show, but Jeff was smiling throughout (as was I). Lots of musical highlights, but I thought One Sunday Morning was really poignant solo -- and of course it made a hearty contribution to the "dirgefest" Also enjoyed the solo version of Laminated Cat and enjoyed hearing Jeff perform The Long Cut. Don't think I've heard him do that live before. Non-musical highlights: Jeff's "self-mod on the fly" of a harmonica holder that was so high on his face that he couldn't reach it with his mouth while playing (he stepped on it and bent the sides). He poked fun a
