Sam Moore just sang a really great version of America the Beautiful. -
Amen to that. I've heard old live acoustic versions, and it really IS great.

I agree. Trump's narcissistic. He's defensive. He's thin-skinned. His ego is out of control (although, I'd argue ALL Presidents' egos are). My point is that, as a fan of late night comedy TV, and movies, and entertainers and music....it's gonna be a sucky, whiny, bitch-and-moan fest the next 4 years from 90% of the entertainment media. Probably every new record is gonna reference evil Trump. Every freaking concert I go to. Every Fallon and Kimmel and Colbert monologue. Trump won. Fair and square. I'd rather people accept it and get out the vote in 4 years rather than complain 24/7.

I'm not a fan of Trump. But it REALLY fascinates me how worked up people are getting over his every move. He still has "elect" on his title. I'm gonna go out a very large and sturdy limb...Hollywood, those in entertainment media, and musicians are gonna force-feed us normal folks one helping of whine after the next in a lot of their creative output the next 4 years.

I didn't see the Golden Globes speech, but I like Patrick Coffin's take on it. Coffin is former host of Catholic Answers Live. He writes Streep's comments in quotes followed by his take: "Just to pick up on what (actor) Hugh Laurie said, you and all of us in this room really belong to the most vilified segments of American society right now." Um, Meryl, I adore your talent -- I do -- but listen to yourself. You're wearing a $18,000 gown; a sleek limousine will float you home to Malibu; your net worth is north of $65,000,000; people seek your autograph, signed photo, and opinions every day of

Wish the midwest portion of the tour had more cities. Darn. I was hoping their new record was gonna be released soon. Apparently, Bono felt...post election...that maybe the band should revisit the record to make sure there's nothing more they want to say. All us music fans apparently get to look forward to a U2 album in late 2017 or early 2018 where Bono will tell us how we should feel to have Trump as our President. Joy!

I Heard the Cover Version First
Passenger Sid replied to lost highway's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yep, me too. Rod Stewart's "The First Cut Is The Deepest", which only recently did I realize was a Cat Steven's song. -
I really like Let's Fight. As for Millionaire, I think they made the right choice to not record/release.

The BBC Radio special was pretty nice. Liked hearing the Near Wild Heaven demo. I love R.E.M.'s early records as well. Murmur, Life's Rich Pageant and Reckoning are my favorites. I'd put those 3, along with Out Of Time and Automatic in my Top 5. The latter 2 would be at my top. It's really hard to rank all their albums, but I feel those 2 are R.E.M. at their absolute peak.

(THE SADIES) 1. Empty The Chamber2. Cut Corners3. 1000 Cities Falling4. 120 Miles Per Hour5. Another Year Again

Out Of Time is, I think, R.E.M.'s best record. So good.

Politics 2016 (election edition)

Like we should have been praying for Obama the last 8 years, we should all pray for Trump the next 4. -

I think my metaphor works pretty well. Both sides know the rules going in. Each side must strategize the best way to come out on top. Trump was able to flip a few blue states. If it was, oddly, declared by President Obama and Congress that the 2016 Election was gonna be re-done in a month. And if the law was changed to be that the popular vote winner would be declared President. If my life depended on picking the winner, I honestly don't know who I'd pick. I truly believe the country, added altogether, is split. I have no problem with people saying Hillary won the popular vote because it -

It's worth pointing out that we're all taking a leap assuming Hillary would have won the popular vote had winning the popular vote been the known criteria to win going in to the election. Had say, Conservatives in California known the popular vote determined the outcome of the Presidential Election, perhaps more Conservative would have gone to the polls. Maybe more liberal voters would have voted in West Virginia. It's impossible to know how the voting turnout might have changed if the Electoral College was scrapped. So yeah, Clinton voters can yell "scoreboard" all they want, but I think -

That's a good point. We'll never know who'd actually win every 4 years if every eligible voter actually voted. -

Did I miss the memo that says you only truly win a Presidential election if you can win the electoral AND popular vote? Okay, Trump's win WASN'T dominate. Let's call it "fairly convincing". Winning 30 of 50 states fits that's description I think. Like ANY Presidential winner would....with a majority in both houses...Trump will do his best to please those who voted for him. He knows in 2 years the Congress could flip. To the victor goes the spoils. -

You make fair points. But Trump has ZERO responsibility to try to please the left. It was a pretty dominant victory. One more thing. Clinton got around 5 million less votes than Obama. Where did all those voters go? I think it speaks to the fact that the excitement lever for her wasn't there. If she couldn't excite enough people in Florida and Ohio and Michigan and Pennsylvania, then she deserves to lose.
