  1. Thunderclap Newman -- "Something in the Air" (Pete Townshend plays bass and produced it). Saw Wilco cover it at the Vic several years ago.
  2. I had a great live music weekend. Thursday night, I drove down to Bloomington, IL and saw Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at the Castle Theater and last night I saw Richard Thompson and his Electric Trio at Space in Evanston. Two great shows.
  3. 1. Drive-By Truckers -- English Oceans 2. Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks -- Wig Out at Jag Bags 3. Old 97's -- Most Messed Up 4. Guided By Voices -- Motivational Jumpsuit I'm looking forward to the new releases by Spoon, Bob Mould and (especailly) Parquet Courts.
  4. I don't think I've ever loved an album more or for longer than Quadrophenia! Happy Q Day.
  5. Good grief! Some of my favorite bands of all time are hated by some of you? I guess there's no accounting for taste or personal preference. I HATE Mumford and I HATE all his Sons. I also can't stand Dave Mathews and Kings of Leon (except for Youth and Young Manhood which is quite good).
  6. O.K. Now that I think I understand the question (a great song by an artist you don't like), I'm changing my answer to "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent.
  7. I love The Kinks -- but I thought the question stated that you don't NECESSARILY have to like the band (but can).
  8. A solo show at the Taste? That's kind of odd.
  9. Four days to the White Sox opener! Weather is looking good. Well "better" is perhaps more accurate!
  10. Was on the road most of last week. Saw the Bluegrass Jam @ The Station Inn in Nashville.
  11. Saw The Del McCoury Band over the weekend. Enjoyed the hell out of it.
  12. Unfortunately, DBT is not stopping in Chicago on their current tour. Indy, Milwaukee, Madison; but no dates in Chicago.
  13. Alejandro Escovedo & Peter Buck at Lincoln Hall.
  14. Yes!! "Short Man's Room" (with the Jayhawks) is a great album.
  15. "Start Again" is pretty close to Pop Perfection.
  16. Lots of great nominations in this thread. The first one that come to mind (other than the already mentioned "I've got blisters on my fingers.") is from Blind Faith's Presence of the Lord: "Everybody knows the secret, and everybody knows the chord [yeah, yeah yeah]."
  17. I thought the show was light on songs and too heavy on banter. I usually find Jeff to be very funny, but it seemed like he was consciously avoiding playing music. BTW, the guy who won the SNL tour (I was second in line and spent over an hour talking to him) was a great guy and recently retired from the military. It was his first Tweedy/Wilco show. Very happy for him.
  18. Love Beck -- got all his albums. If he's able to come close to replicating the mood of Sea Change, I'll be very happy.
  19. DBT is one of my favorite bands and I'm anxiously awaiting the release of English Oceans. Their concerts are tremendous -- a "must see" live act.
