  1. MIKE JUNE & THE DIRTY DOVES @ THe Trash Bar 256 Grand St. Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY 718-599-1000 OPEN BAR with $6 admission from 8 to 9 PM also on the bill: Que Suerte Sweet Fist The Revolvers Riot Like Words
  2. You didn't get that vibe by listening to Rush? As a member of a band that has had close to 20 drummers over the last 5 years (the same one for the last 2 1/2) I have sworn to NEVER even audition a drummer who lists Peart as an influence.
  3. Dead on. Wilco sold out. There is no way to justify it. Money is not an issue with Wilco, they've grossed MILLIONS over the years. And if they weren't making enough, well they could go into some other line of work, because you don't pursue a career in music expecting to make a lot of money. Plus, to shill for a car comapny, who are directly responsible for a large number of the problems we are facing in this day and age...shameless. And marketing is not an art, it is a shallow and souless endeavor.
  4. Don't think Tweedy has any problems footing the bills. I find this whole thing a bit disturbing. Yes, a lot of bands sell thier songs to car commercials, but the fact that Wilco hadn't was one of the things that made them special.
  5. I'm more than tired of bands shilling music to car companies. It is very cromulent of them, and it surely does not embiggen them at all.
  6. Exactly! To quote Jon Stewart when Tucker Carlson accused him of not asking tough questions on his show: "We're a comedy show. We follow a bunch of puppets making prank phone calls!"
  7. This whole situation is VERY disturbing. During her testimony Goodling admitted that Tim Griffin (th?), Karl Rove's former assistant and now US Attorney in Little Rock, AK was involved in "caging" during the 2004 presidential election. (yes, he did replace one of the fired attorneys and coincidentally ended up in the one place where he can have access to the Clinton's past...) "Caging" is a tactic used in the marketing business, but when used in elections, it is used to expel registered voters from election rolls. It is a felony and the Republican party has been working under a restraining ord
  8. Sky Blue Sky apparently will enter the Billboard charts at #4 this week with sales of 75,400. Way to go Wilco fans!
  9. Haven't read the thread, just the title, but here goes: If you don't like Nels Cline in Wilco, you are free to go. Jay hasn't been in Wilco for almost 5 years, so to think that people would be over this by now would be more than reasonable, There is no law saying that if you liked a previous Wilco record, you have to like this one. Unfortunately, this one is here and now. So if this one isn't for you, move on to whatever band you're into now. No harm, no foul.
  10. I am getting ready to start recording my next record, despite having just released my 2nd, and I am looking for musicians who would be interested in playing on it. Many of the songs I have written for the album are leaning towards the rootsier side of rock music, so if there are any fiddle/violin players, upright bassists, dobro players and especially horn players or anyone who plays any odd instruments, drop me a line. Our line-up already includes acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums and keys (organ, piano and accordian). The recording will be done in our own studio in Montclair, NJ. Th
  11. Just an FYI My bands new album, LOVESICK, is now available on iTunes and at CD Baby. Buy one and feed the hungry! Thanks Mike June & The Dirty Doves LOVESICK http://www.mikejune.com http://www.myspace.com/mikejunethedirtydoves http://www.cdbaby.com/mikejune2
  12. Read the first review of LOVESICK by at Blowup Radio.com: CD Reviews: Mike June & The Dirty Doves, Fixer, Army Of Me Mike June & The Dirty Doves - lovesick Call it roots rock, folk rock, singer/songwriter rock, Americana, whatever you wish. The important thing to remember is that Mike June & The Dirty Doves' new CD, "lovesick", is a real album. Not just a collection of songs put out as an album, this CD features 11 tracks that seem to convey a story about the highs and lows of love. Sure it's a topic covered over and over again in song, but when it's done well, as it i
  13. Greg is great. i am surprised that he is not more well known throughout America. He is like the Bruce Springsteen of Iowa! I got to know him pretty well when the agency I used to work for booked him. His wife is DeMent-ED though (looney!).

  15. The Byrds- Sweethearts of the Rodeo, or anything with an abundance of pedal steel...or Kind of Blue.
  16. Check out my buddy Felix, better known as FDR. He's Maggie's son. You can find him on Myspace. Very good songwiter
  17. My friend was going last night and when he got the tickets I asked him why he wasn't going to the show on St. Patty's...he said Shane would show for the first one, but there was no guarantee of him being there for the next. Oh welL!
  18. I love the Shins records too, but I think they are one of the most boring live bands I have ever seen.
  19. They will probably spend the summer doing Europe and festivals (hoping on Newport Folk!) and then hit the road doing theatres and such in the fall and winter, followed by an outdoor summer tour. Typical album tour strategy.
  20. Thanks everyone, for your kind words. I wasn't even trying to be insightful...I just liked the record! It must be my day, because someone posted a thread about my band. Its nice of them to do that but frankly, its a little uncomfortable.
  21. I believe they were all like this. Does anybody remember the reaction to Summerteeth when we used the Wilcoworld message board? That record was a complete 180 from Being There and it took a lot of people by surprise. Its expected. Every Wilco record is decidedly (Sp? its late!) different from the previous record. It takes a while to adjust what your hearing from your expectations. Since we're here, let me give my two cents on SBS: Please forgive typos and rants: 2 days with very little sleep! I really like this record. As I listened to it, I thought of all of the previous Wilco records.
  22. Also looking for a PM...will defintely buy record!
  23. Would love to come to Boston! I'll wear my Yankees jersey!
