  1. I totally agree... Very close to the SQ of the Auditorium, but far more intimate. Was that the same a-hole who SCREAMED out "let's go PACKERS!!"??? to which Jeff replied, "you are in the wrong place pal" or something to that effect... YES!! TIA to the taper, and I promise to seed for a few days at least!! I had a great time, and a VERY long weekend with between my cousin's wedding, Bears tickets, and then a road trip to Milwaukee. I am off to get some sleep. It was good seeing some of you... I believe I spotted some familiar faces right at the bottom of the stairs in front of the th
  2. I'll start to believe in evolution when I see babies born with USB ports and/or Wi-Fi antennae on their necks sprouting from their spinal cords.

  4. I was able to get a pair in the first balcony, right center section, row B on the pre-sale yesterday. Should be great seats for my first Tweedy solo show.
  5. Jack Hanna just had some kind words for Steve, his family, and his legacy on MSNBC... Classy interview actually.

  7. While I would bet that there are more to come, this is one to be proud of for now... I think that you did a great job considering the unfamiliarity with the platform.
  8. I bought it... Hindsiight being 20/20, I would avoid it.
  9. That Alice Cooper's band opened for Syd Barrett and the Pink Floyd in LA in 1967, one of the nights Syd got a shock from the PA through a mic and stood still for 90 minutes without playing or speaking. Also, I was surprised to hear that hardly anyone showed up for those shows. AC spoke about this on his syndicated radio show tonight. Although I am sick to death of most "classic" rock, I love the stories and the deeper tracks he spins every night.
  10. Back to the original topic, I picked up a Crate Vintage Club 20 (single 10", all tube combo) and it is the best $200 I ever spent. I know that these and the 1-12" versions pop up on ebay all the time for reasonable prices. They auto-bias, so retubing is a snap. I just retubed mine with matched tubes from Euro Tube and it sounds great. A great sounding, all tube Crate sounds like an oxymoron, just like the Peavey Classics go against the grain of what that company traditionally offers... Both lines offer excellent combos for the money, and since they are each sold all over the place, they
  11. North Coast Music out of Milwaukee www.voxshowroom.com is the best place to buy a Vox if you are considering mail order. They open up and visually inspect and electronically test EVERY single unit before it is added to stock, and I believe they also install a speaker jack on the combos at no extra charge so you can use an extension cab if you want to. They do this, and they still sell at the minimum allowed pricing just like Guitar Center, Sam Ash, or Musician's Friend. Also if you are an od school Vox nut, they have awesome reproduction replacement cabs built to vintage specs with correct
  12. It depends on how the circuit was designed and what the designer/manufacturer call for. To answer your question on whether it matters, the amp can be seriously damaged if the fuse doesn't bow when and how the designer intended. You will ALWAYS want to repace the fuse with the exact same rated fuse. If you think someone before you tinkered with them, find an owner's manual or call or e-mail the factory for a replacement copy. BTW, a friend had a weird fuse blow on a Vox AC-15 and thought he was in for a tough task to hunt down a replacement. A few electronics suppliers did not have it, bu
  13. I second the recommendation for the pro setup... A friend loaned me an inherited mediocre Mexican Tele with ridiculously low action that nobody could play. After a $40 to the best tech I know, it was played great and actually sounded pretty decent.
  14. Tandberg & Teac/Tascam are the best, but make sure that someone still has parts available if it breaks. You will almost have to search model for model... Google is your friend here, do your research. Also, you will have to manually clean your tapes, and de-magnetize the tape path on just about anything you buy. Did you inherit some boots on reels or something?? If that is the case, you may just wish to have them transferred to CD by a professional from a well maintained machine vs. buying some 20+ year old science project on Ebay or Audiogon and possibly screwing up your tapes the fi
  15. Since it is after Christmas, this may be a moot point... I also recommend the Seagull guitars, you get a lot of guitar for your money and they hold up well. The guy I took lessons from is a total road warrior, something like 150-200+ nights out per year, and his gigging acoustic is a Seagull. I would highly recommend combing the Music GoRound and reputable used music stores, I got a beautiful Alvarez-Yairi that plays great and sounds great for $250. This guitar is way better than anything I could have bought new for twice that amount.
  16. I second (or third, whatever...) the recommendation for a firewire mic preamp box. I don't have personal experience with the Pre-Sonus, but I have only heard good things about their gear. Also, recording is very demanding on your resources, so shut down all of the bundled Gateway helper crap software that auto-boots on startup. Better yet, buy a license for XP Pro and wipe the entire system and rebuild fresh to eliminate all of that add-on crap altogether. (You can't ues the Gateway build disc, because it has all of that crap on it.) PS. I am typing this on a Gateway laptop, so that rec
  17. Katie Melua and Same with a young Grace Slick... MMM... She was a big time hottie in the early days.
  18. On my black '76 Les Paul custom and '60 gold top reissue ('99??) I use DR "pure blues" .10-.46 set when I am in a bending/tinkering mood like noodling out solos and intros. The same strings in the .11-.50 set for sheer power when I am in a power chord mood... At any given point in time, these two setups are on on these two guitars, but sometimes I swap the setups on them. Currently, the Custom has the heavier setup to reduce buzz because of the low action of Customs.
