Night #2 in Orlando:
-
Pretty sure he did the exact same setlist in Orlando tonight. Guy is great.
-
Hey, that's not the guitar you normally play.
Mr. Heartbreak replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
How about Hendrix with the Rickenbacker? Not a guitar I normally associate with him. -
Lies, coverups, and abuses of power should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Like taking a country to war based on faulty intelligence, thereby sending tens of thousands of men, women and children to an early grave. Which is why George Bush and Dick Cheney should be in prison for war crimes, or at least treason. Right?

wilco solid sound request thread first night
Mr. Heartbreak replied to dagwave's topic in Just A Fan
I saw one of the Wilco shows where they covered Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, and it kicked major butt. Then I saw B.O.C. for the first time a few years later, and their version sounded really weak. True story! -
Can't wait to see him tomorrow night and Sunday night! Feeling lucky just to have the chance.
-
Exactly the most important point, and one that's not being mentioned enough.

This is all absolutely true. I wasn't being serious in blaming Bush for 9/11...that was one of those deals where you can't tell someone is being sarcastic because it's an internet post. I just like to pretend to blame Bush for everything, because the other side has been blaming Obama for everything since even before he was elected. Maybe people have forgotten, but in 2008 there was much right-wing media speculation that the terrifying prospect of an Obama presidency was the cause for the massive drop in the stock market during Bush's last few months in office. After all, Obama is a commie/pink

and now the DRUMS- favorite thread!

From what I've read, that guy is a nut case. Sounds like a violent drunk, or worse. -
Well, the prices may be high, but it doesn't mean anyone will buy the items. You can put something on Amazon and have it sit there for years, whatever the price. And of course, higher priced items do tend to sell more slowly. That said, for some reason, some of these Dead-related obscurities are fetching a larger-than-expected price when sold, even if they have been opened. I guess there are people with plenty of cash who do not get around to buying the original releases direct from the Dead's site. As for reselling an item, I can't see why anyone would feel bad about doing it, if they can

Might be worth something, but the CD sure ain't. I've had mine listed on Amazon for 3 years, and haven't been able to get rid of it. The used ones are listing for under $4.00.
-
I guess it's all about perspective. Many of us sell our used CDs, books, and/or other items on Amazon, usually for a small fraction of what we paid for them. Nothing illegal about that. If the Dead organization chooses this Limited Edition business model, it actually encourages people to resell these things, new or used, at a premium. Once I bought it and burned it, I was done with the artifact. I priced mine below everyone else, and it still sold almost immediately. Go figure. By the way, Dave's Picks Vol. 6 is now listing for $140.00+ on Amazon, way more than what I was talking about.
-
I agree with you guys 100% about this. However, if you're willing to take the risk, there is one other angle: resale at a profit. I know, I know, sounds wrong, doesn't it? But think about it: if you buy it, and aren't that thrilled with it, you can always burn a copy for yourself and/or your friends (hint, hint), and resell the original on Amazon or eBay or whatnot. I made about $15 off resale of my Vol. 5, totally guilt-free, and they are now going for $20 more than I sold mine for, so I feel I sold it for a comparatively reasonable price. I know I'm encouraging you to be my competitors,

Kind of fun to see what people's "desert island picks" would be though (if they had to pick individual shows). Personally, I love the '72-'74 period, but am also partial to 3/1/69 as well. This other article has some good contenders: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/04/09/arts/music/20090410-dead-shows-vote.html

Pretty big day in Dead history, 5/8. Best show ever? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/12/arts/music/12ratl.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0

Weirdest thing you've done with a Wilco-related item?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to smells like flowers's topic in Just A Fan
Yes, but nothing I can post about on here. I keed, I keed... -
Totally agree. I got great seats for Paul McCartney and Elton John, both within the past 12 months, for about $250. I love the Stones' music, but because they really have been trying to gouge fans on the prices, I've lost interest in ever seeing them.
-
Can I get in on this too?
-
Well, he is playing My Valentine, but it's too early in the set to serve as a piss break. Smart man.
-
Maybe that's where he got the idea for Bull Black Nova. So who do you have to bl... er, know to get invited to one of these shows?
-
There are already 14 copies of Dave's Vol. 6 on Amazon for sale. The cheapest one is going for $70.00. Whatever the market will bear!
-
I'm gonna say yes. I have a bunch of Betty boards from that era (though only 2 shows from the proposed '77 box set).

I know we have gotten off the NRA in this thread, but here is an interesting article about their recent convention in Houston. I know there are some NRA members in this thread, and I'm not saying anyone who has posted in this thread is anything like these people represented in the article. I just think it's important to know what type of organization you have joined, or at least who some of its members are, and the views they espouse publicly. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/05/nazi-bloomberg-zombie-obama-target-at-nra-party.html

When you look at that setlist, I can think Paul can be forgiven for all the cheesy 80s pop songs. That was kind of a lost decade for a lot of 60s icons, including Dylan and Joni Mitchell. I mean, come on, Helter Skelter, Day Tripper, Get Back, Hey Jude...there's no substitute for these shows. I'd be much more psyched about seeing Dylan, by the way, if he would load his sets with crowd-pleasers. I know he's a cantankerous old bird, and does whatever he wants, but McCartney could certainly do the same (or even play his entire new album, which would be like one long bathroom break for most of u

Nothing...unless she's butchering Wild Horses. Seen the video yet? Even some of her own fans commented negatively on it. Paul really represents the end of the Beatles era for me. No one else has ever represented the Beatles catalogue on the level of his performances. I think his 2010 Miami show might have been the best rock concert I have ever seen, and I have been to a LOT of shows.
