  1. Thanks a lot! I was wondering if anyone was going to respond. Thanks for the link as well.
  2. My wife and I are thinking of getting a digital SLR. We are looking at two different kinds cameras, one of which is a Sony A330 DSLR, the other of which is a Fuji Finepix S100FS that's built like a DSLR. We have had good luck with a Fuji Finepix digital camera, but are still considering an SLR type camera. She is more the camera expert than me, so my input is virtually useless. She likes them both, because they're in our price range; we're just looking for opinions as to which one might be better (and which would be more convenient to lug around while out of town on vacations). Anyone have tho
  3. Well, hey, look what happened to Halle Berry.
  4. I was in the second row for that show, and it's the only version of the song I ever play.
  5. I don't know, maybe it's just too harsh ... violence against women, that sort of thing. Maybe they did, and it's kind of a "take back the night" moment? I have no idea.
  6. This is a classic example of why you should check urbandictionary.com before you name your band.
  7. Not to be a killjoy, but Hendrix was so widely bootlegged, it's unlikely to be something no one else has. Check the site A-man posted, or even db.etree.org, and you can see there are multiple sources of many, many shows and even motel room recordings. I wouldn't get too excited about it yet.

  9. Check out Joy of A Toy, Louie. You might like some of that one. Ironically, the outtake with Syd Barrett sounds less like Syd than the version without him.
  10. Yeah, I just bought it last year, and hated it. I burned the "Baby's On Fire" onto my iTunes and resold the CD on Amazon. Kevin Ayers actually has a half-decent psychedelic album called Joy Of A Toy featuring Syd Barrett (on guitar) on the song Singing a Song in the Morning.
  11. Damn, I guess that means I'm getting old too, Louie! Jazz gets much more play as I hit my mid-40s. I am so over classic rock. I had to drive the company car today, which meant listening to local radio, and I heard Carry On Wayward Son and Turn the Page ... two songs I liked when I was 16 but could now live quite comfortably without ever hearing again. I suggest anyone looking for new music check out some old music that's "new" to you. Actually, Artie Shaw wouldn't be a bad place to start at all.
  12. I understand pretty much all of you. I went through a period not long ago where I couldn't get into anything but the box set Live Trane - The European Tours. It's all great, and by comparison, everything else sounded shallow, even silly ... I mean EVERYTHING: Wilco, the Beatles, the Stones ... EVERY THING. I got out of that phase through sheer overexposure, but then I went through another period where I thought the iPod and iTunes had permanently ruined my attention span at age 44. I would listen to a song for about 65 seconds, then want to switch to something else. It doesn't help that I
  13. You can find some of their stuff pretty cheap on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000DD25
  14. Just listened to a very nice Morning Dew in Jerry's honor. I know it was officially yesterday, but to me it's still Monday night. I well remember where I was that day: at work. It was a bummer having to just suck it up and not think about it too much. I still listen to Jerry and the boys pretty often, all these years later. I suppose I always will.
  15. I'm getting into Gong and Camel, both of which I've been aware of for about 20 years but never really listened to. I get a kick out of some of it. On Adrian Belew: I'm surprised he was with Crimson so long, as I have seen ads for him performing solo. Never really followed his career, though I do have his first two solo albums.
  16. I was stunned that some conservative commentators decided to make a negative out of it. I just can't see how it could be a bad thing for anybody involved ... except possibly conservatives.
  17. I have a friend who loves that song. I may actually forward that video to her.
  18. I've always been a big advocate of the early versions from 2002. I like them much better than the final product or the current versions, and encourage people to track them down. The one from 3/11/02 is an excellent example, and clocks in at just over 6 minutes. Not exactly overlong.

  20. This is exactly how I feel. In fact, the last couple times I saw Wilco, way before W(TA), my enjoyment of the show was greatly reduced by Nels' apparent need to wankity wank during every freaking song. Can't the guy just wait for his solo and vamp sometimes? The brutal cacophony at the end of certain songs (Handshake Drugs, Spiders, I'm the Man Who Loves You, Impossible Germany) actually caused me to plug my ears. W(TA) has plenty of guitar in it, but I don't have the feeling during every song of "Oh boy, Nels sure is playing the shit out of this song, isn't he?" And that's a good thing.

  22. Here's one I never thought I'd see for a penny: The Birth of the Cool by Miles Davis http://www.amazon.com/Birth-Cool-Miles-Davis/dp/B000005HF9/ref=sr_1_408?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1248239777&sr=1-408 Seriously, everybody should own this.
