  1. You beat me to it. Just read this story and came here to post the link. Pretty entertaining read. Making Dylan laugh onstage is probably more eventful than the show itself.
  2. Thanks! Sorry for lack of clarity on that post: I did mean Jerry Garcia, not Dead shows.
  3. Yep, biometrics includes fingerprinting...something legal immigrants are subject to as well, along with a photo. If the person has been fingerprinted and it's documented elsewhere (e.g., CODIS), I presume it will match up. Doubt many criminals will register for this, of course. Why risk deportation and/or prosecution?
  4. Do any of you Deadheads have much experience with Jerry shows from '74, '77 or '82? There's a site out there with most of those shows available (PM me if you want the link), but there's just no way I'll ever have time to download them all, much less listen to them. Anyone have favorites from those years? Thanks.
  5. Listened for the first time to a really interesting 1969 arrangement of It's All Over Now, Baby Blue on my way to work this morning. It's not as fast as the versions from, say, 1966, and in fact, it's even slower than the ones from the '80s. Check it out: https://archive.org/details/gd1969-04-06.fm.hunter-warner.fink.9389.sbeok.shnf
  6. That is exactly what it is. My wife came here as a legal immigrant, and it's both difficult and expensive. The application fee for Adjustment of Status, a.k.a. a "green card," is over $1,000. So is the application fee for becoming a U.S. citizen. These illegal aliens are getting neither. They are going to have to register with the U.S. government, undergo a criminal background check, pay taxes, and go to the back of the line if they are ever even allowed to apply at a later date for Adjustment of Status. Not exactly an easy thing for folks who may very well be making minimum wage or eve
  7. The review itself is highly complimentary, belying the middling rating. I found this of particular interest (and I agree with it): I would love to have gotten cleaned up versions of Corduroy Cut-off Girl, Won't Let You Down, Venus Stopped the Train, etc. In fact, I was surprised by how much of the material on AMF had shown up on the fan collection And Sum Aren't, and how little came from the YHF Demos widely circulated. Interesting.
  8. Not all of '84 sounds as good as that. In all seriousness, it's pretty much hit or miss from about '82 on. But when they hit, damn, they were hot. I can even suffer through some "froggy Jerry" vocals if everything else is firing on all eight cylinders.
  9. Sorry for the late reply, just saw this. She was very good, although the ticket price was a bit high. The setlist made me happy, as she did not perform a lot of obscurities. I think there were only about 3 or 4 songs I didn't know. She does not do Boulder to Birmingham at every show, so I was pleased that she did that for an encore. Also did nice versions of Pancho & Lefty and Sin City, both of which I love. Was hoping for Pancho, never even considered she would do Sin City (which I have loved since I discovered Uncle Tupelo's cover of it). Great show overall.
  10. Revised: 1) Tweedy - Sukierae 2) CRB - Phosphorescent Harvest 3) Drive-By Truckers – English Oceans 4) Wilko Johnson & Roger Daltrey -- Going Back Home 5) Eno/Hyde - High Life 6) Jonatha Brooke - My Mother Has Four Noses 7) Beck - Morning Phase Favorite archival releases: Grateful Dead - Dave's Picks Vol. 11, Century II Convention Center, Wichita, KS, 11/17/72 Wilco - Alpha Mike Foxtrot
  11. Do you have the Jelly Roll Morton version of Winin' Boy Blues? That would get you kicked off for sure.
  12. If I don't have the 11/15 RT at home, I may have to look for that. This 11/14 is pretty sweet.
  13. Right after I posted, I found this: http://www.thebestofwebsite.com/bands/grateful_dead/reviews/RoadTrips_Vol3_No2.htm Breaks it down more. Digging this show a lot. I prefer the slightly more polished '72 versions of some of these songs, but I have to admit I don't miss Pigpen in this show either.
  14. Taking a break from my group of '77 shows to get some earlier, earthier Dead from 11/14/71. https://archive.org/details/gd1971-11-14.sbd.lai.6254.sbefail.shnf This set seems to have been, at least partially, released as a bonus disc for RT 3.2. It's the previous night, that is. Oddly, all the other copies on archive.org show it starting with Tenn. Jed and having less tracks. So I'm not sure what I've got here - a mix of tunes from both nights? The setlist on the show, as I have it, is as follows: Bertha Beat It On Down The Line China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider El Paso ->
  15. If we do go (to Lockn'), my wife and I would stay in Lynchburg. I went to college there, and would like to show her the old alma mater. Sure, there is a big difference because of the lineup and also length of the fests. I doubt I will choose Lockn' for that reason, although a Dead reunion might change my mind. Leaning toward the less expensive SS. Edit: BTW, it looks like the Ticketing FAQ for SS 2013 was listed on Nov. 27th, 2012. If that is any indicator, we should start hearing something soon about SS 2015. I am on the email list and have received exactly zero info so far. But then, yo
  16. Wow, seven hundred bucks for a Lockn' ticket? I know that's VIP, but holy cow. What's the typical price for Solid Sound been? I would probably stay in either a hotel or rental about 30-40 minutes away from either festival rather than camping, etc., so I'm not really worried about booking really early. There's always the Airbnb option in surrounding cities. I know a lot of people want to go straight to bed after a full day of shows, but I'm fine with a little drive to clear my head and decompress.
  17. Via Chicago really needs a "like" button like Facebook, so these posts can get about 7,953 likes.
  18. Good points, all. I have always wanted to go to Solid Sound, and it's a good excuse to visit me mum in lovely old CT. However, if there is a Dead reunion at Lockn', I will put off Solid Sound until another year, Wilco or no Wilco. I can't afford to do both, and Jeff & Co. are a lot younger than Phil, Bobby, et al. I figured Solid Sound was slightly less expensive and much more of a "homey" feel than a gargantuan fest like Lockn'. But if Wilco played both, I would still likely go for Lockn', as I believe the rest of the lineup would be more in my wheelhouse (e.g., groups like Chris Robins
  19. I know this thread is now officially ancient, but can any of you 2014 attendees give me an idea of what prices were like for this? It looks like there was a price option (no longer available) for "Lock'n 'Lumni" of $199 for the 2015 fest. I might do this next year instead of Solid Sound, depending on cost, lineup, etc. Virginia is certainly a lot closer to Florida than Mass., and I could visit my old alma mater while I'm there.
  20. This show is now apparently up in the Roadcase section for sale: http://wilco.kungfustore.com/roadcase/roadcase-035-october-1-2014-buffalo-ny-wilr35.html
  21. I'm really psyched, as this is the first chance I've had to catch her live.
