  1. I would love to go, but I just can't take the time off from work to travel up there. Plus my bride and I agreed (after I bought tickets for Lady Antebellum, McCartney and the Ratdog/CRB show) that we would not be doing any other major concerts this year.
  2. I haven't downloaded it yet, but there is apparently a SBD of that show here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/1gw6wmusteg5/21%20GD%201974-05-21%20%28SBD%29.rar
  3. Oh, yeah, I would be all over that if I lived anywhere near it: Furthur, Ratdog, Phil & Friends, Wilco, CRB, Drive-By Truckers, The Allmans...what's not to love?
  4. I love how that page shows that it's a song called "Behold a Raccoon in the Darkness" by Deerhoof/The Raccoonists, but in order to play it you have to click a link that says "Behold Jeff Tweedy in the Darkness." I mean, I like Jeff and all, but not really sure I want to behold him in the darkness.
  5. Springsteen tickets here in Tampa were about $150 for the show earlier this month, and Tampa is a secondary or even tertiary market....another reason I decided to pass. Prices might be even higher elsewhere. I checked Ticketmaster for the prices to the upcoming Petty show so I could let a buddy of mine know about it: sure enough, good seats are about $150. I'm always a little surprised that these guys are able to sell tickets at such prices. I know they have fans, and have some written some classic songs, but I'm personally not a big enough fan of either to even consider paying that much.
  6. Dang, that is a bummer. They have been really, really good both times I have seen them.
  7. I'm sure Plant can be a real tool, but I gotta give him credit for doing what he wants. Growing up in New England in the 70s, I got so sick of hearing Zep on the radio, I never even bothered to buy their albums. Why buy what I was already getting more than enough of for free? Same with Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Led Zep material is so played out. I still don't much get into listening to it, because of the saturation, and that was 30 years ago. I can only imagine how little appetite Plant has for singing more than a handful of those songs.
  8. I have only heard one of their songs. Got the tickets as a present for her. Alan Parsons cover, ha! I didn't get that one, but I read up on the story. Pretty funny. They are guaranteed to play it...which is good, since that is the only song of theirs I have heard thus far.
  9. I heard he was great - which makes sense, if he was fronting a Yes tribute band - but I would not want to give the other guys my $$ after they did that to Anderson. I will, however, see Anderson again if I get the chance. He was wonderful here in FL earlier this year.
  10. Taking my lady to see Lady Antebellum. She's never been to a real show before, just small groups in clubs or bars, so it will be fun watching her reaction/excitement etc.
  11. Yep, iTunes has definitely changed the way I listen to music. At work, I'm on an iMac all day, so I continually work my shuffle function manually to make it like a radio station. I am making an effort to not play anything by the same artist for at least six or seven hours. Right now, I'm going back and listening to stuff I haven't heard since January or before. In the car, I usually play the iPod, which I am constantly updating with "new" stuff in a specific playlist. Working my way through live Roger Waters, some Dead, Badfinger....all sorts of stuff. If I get burned out on a live show I'm
  12. You maniacs probably already know it, but I love the story about how the intro to Shine On You Crazy Diamond came about. Gilmour was practicing, and he played those iconic four notes. Waters came into the room and said something like, "What was that? Play that again." Thus was born the beginning of the song we all know and love.
  13. One thing for sure about a Led Zeppelin: there is no need for it. Plant obviously does not need the money, has no interest in doing it, is interested and engaged in making new music with other people, and anyway, if people really want to see him sing some Zep tunes, all they have to do is see him live. Personally, I find the idea of someone else filling in for him an absurd one, although I know the idea got floated at one point for Tyler in Aerosmith, and it's even happened to Jon Anderson with Yes. I, for one, would not pay a dime to see an Anderson-less version of Yes, so I can't imagine too
  14. Sometimes humor doesn't work on the internet.
  15. This is so freaking cool. I have mentioned before that I was at one of those "Dark California Stars" shows, and it was a high point of my Wilco concert-going experience. Sublime.
  16. I only know the artists Paul Simon co-opted, because I am a white colonialist motherf'er.
  17. You never know. Sometimes when evil comes, it comes in a very banal form...maybe even the form of an aging rock star who looks just like your Aunt Mildred.
  18. Lady Antebellum this Saturday, which will be my lady's first big show Drive-By Truckers at Tampa Theatre early next month Paul McCartney a few weeks after that Ratdog with Chris Robinson Brotherhood opening in August Should be a good couple of months!
  19. This would be the phrase I would normally use for the bands/artists I listed in my post on this thread. Of course, there are a few who I really cannot stand, notably (post Jackson Five) Michael Jackson and Madonna. Most everyone else, I would just say I don't care for them because their music has never connected with me, or even more accurately, I have never found a connection with their music. Except rap and hip-hop, I can't stand any of that...including The Roots, before anyone says anything. I can barely tolerate the rap part of Rapture by Blondie.
  20. Looks like they will be doing a tour opening for Ratdog starting August 14th. Sweeeet. I'll be taking my wife to one of those shows for sure. http://chrisrobinsonbrotherhood.com/2014/tour.html
  21. That is very, very cool. I see he was something of a headliner at New Orleans Jazz Fest recently. He must have a pretty good band playing with him these days?
