David Letterman retiring in 2015
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Magnetized's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
He's a talented guy, and I think he'll be great. I will miss the character he plays now, but I have to admit I have not watched the show regularly in quite some time. -
This is so funny to me. I had a couple Deadheads next to me at AmericanaramA the night that Bobby and Wilco broke out Dark Star in Atlanta. I was telling them before the set about how great Wilco is while they were sitting there getting high and drunk, and they eyed me skeptically. But when they heard the first few notes of Dark Star, they suddenly leapt to their feet and began boogieing away the whole time (even during the segue into Cali Stars). It was like they totally forgot that they were seeing Wilco playing a Dead tune...or maybe they just thought of them as Bob Weir's backing band at t

It probably depends on the show. The one I was referencing, the standard mail option was $3.50, and there was no print at home option.

Do musicals count? Went to see American Idiot last night. Exceeded my expectations.

You guys are hurting my heart. I think I'll be a contrarian and just come right out and say that Piper is actually the best Pink Floyd album. Long live Syd! -
I'm seeing them Sunday night and looking forward to it, too. Hoping for a good Dead cover. I can only provide input on the first night of the Betty boards, as that is the only one I have bought so far. I thought it was pretty darn good, especially the version of Vibration & Light. They are a solid live unit now.

Sophie's Choice (music edition)

Heck, I've got about 52,000 songs on there. I guess it would make sense to just delete it all, then, and replace it with stuff I have never heard before... Yep, option #1 is looking better by the second. The only Dead tunes available to me would be crap like Wave to Wind and Samba in the Rain. -

What if you don't remember if you heard something before? I have a ton of classic jazz on my iTunes that I would not be able to recognize because I've only heard it once, and that was like three years ago. I smoked an awful lot of pot in high school, so my memory is a little sketchy, you know... -

So the premise is that any music I have heard before - in any incarnation - is off limits for scenario #2. In other words, if I have heard it before, I will never get to hear it again. If I have never heard it before - and might or might not like it - then I can hear it in the future. Like that? -
Confirmed on dead.net, Dave's Picks 10 will feature 12/12/69. http://www.dead.net/store/daves-picks/daves-picks-volume-10-thelma-los-angeles-ca-121269

Great conversation, and certainly a relevant question. For me, the whole "other Dead members doing Jerry songs" never really bothered me, because I have not seen it done in what I considered an excessive manner. For example, the first couple Ratdog shows I saw, back between 2002-2003, Bob only did a couple of Jerry songs: one show featured Dark Star, Mississippi Half-Step and Brokedown Palace, and the other featured New Speedway Boogie and Terrapin. All great songs, and people there seemed really excited to hear them. In more recent years, I have seen some set lists where half the show or mo

#1, no surprises here -
Saw announcement for Kentucky on Facebook this morning: Just announced: Jeff Tweedy at the Brown Theatre, Louisville KY on June 9. Wilcoworld pre-sale Wednesday 4/9 at 10am EDT, majority of tix on sale Friday 4/11 at 10am. Okay, D.C., KY...he's getting closer to F-L-A. Come on, Jeff, it's really nice down here this early in the year!

He's listed as being on with Maya Rudolph, either this week or next week. I DVR'd it. Check your local listings, etc.

Yeah, but you can't just slide it into your wallet. So by the end of the evening it looks a little, uh, lived in: folded up, wrinkled, etc. Oddly enough, I just recently bought tickets through them (well, their site transferred me to LiveNation, but whatever), and they didn't even have the print-at-home option. I much prefer a physical ticket, like you do, so I wasn't really bothered by the $3.50 they charged to mail them to me. Surprised it wasn't higher. I guess their pricing and ticket options vary widely, but they get you coming and going for sure. Hence the nickname, TicketBastard.

Yeah, they really are the worst. I feel your pain. I am in the habit of keeping my ticket stub and writing the set list on it, ever since my Deadhead days. Kind of sucks writing it on a big ol' 8 & 1/2" x 11" paper, but I still do it.

The Zappa releases are available on CD, I don't think they are available on iTunes at this point. The newest one, Roxy by Proxy, is very good. Even better is the Road Tapes series release (RT #2) which came right before it....most of the same 1973 band but features Jean Luc Ponty on violin and some really fantastic, aggressive guitar work from FZ. Anyone wondering "where to start" with jazz...don't start there.

Finally putting aside my JFK assassination obsession for a while and jumping back into the classics. Just started Sarrasine by Honoré de Balzac.

Capt. Beefheart, Steely Dan and Michael Penn iTunes shuffle is amusing.

On the other hand, more material has recently been released from the "jazz" group Frank Zappa had in 1973...from the famous (infamous?) Roxy shows. So it shows there is still interest out there in some older material for fans of a certain type. Of course, you could make the argument that Zappa's jazz groups were really more a rock/fusion ensemble, and I don't suppose many would disagree. Still nice to hear. Speaking of that era, I see more Miles has been released. Anyone up on this stuff? The complete Fillmore shows?

Oh, damn, I want to see the Bevis Frond! Let us know how the show was, if you don't mind.
